The Swisscows privacy policy is very reasonable and data is anonymized within 7 days. They do not build profiles on individuals and access to their records requires going through the Swiss court system.

I've lived in apartments that the internet was self-censored by the good Christian owners - so family unfriendly content was blocked e.g. pornagrphy and information about other religions.

Qwant also states they use Bing and says they follow "right to be forgotten" laws. Companies can request to removal of content via "dereferencing". So I would say Qwant is in the same boat as DuckDuckGo.

It collects search data just like DuckDuckGo. The only search engine that is potentially more private than DDG is Searx but you have to be able to trust the instance you use if you are not self hosting it.

I can understand where you might be pointing at. Like already said by an user, dont give your child a phone unless he/she is ready. All I can help is, instead of google, tell your child to search internet stuffs through SwissCows, a child friendly search engine for the web

Qwant.com is a good one as well as swisscows.com. They are both located in Europe (France and Switzerland) and I am happy with their results. Are they the best ? It depends on your use case I guess

According to their privacy policy they collect personal information like IP addresses, user agent etc which is stored for 7 days and then deletes them.

They also state that some data is transmitted to their advertising partners, although they do mention it's anonymized. These anonymized data include IP addresses with obfuscated last octet, user agent with unique and potentially identifiabe portions, the search term and the search region setting.

One other thing is they present themselves as family friendly search engine. According to them they:

promote moral values
hate violence and adult content
promote digital media education

While this might look good, but it also means that they choose what turns up in the search results and what not.

I will not leave you with a definite answer as whether to use it or not. I will leave it up to you to decide what to do with all the information provided. :)

This is the reason why I consider the 3 common search engine algorithms of Google, Bing, and Yahoo rather misleading. It's because of the fact that they emphasize certain answers by putting them in special frames without fact-checking them. :)

A seemingly less problematic search engine algorithm would be Swisscows. However, if you have evidence suggesting otherwise, let me know because I still primarily use Google due to being more familiar to its services! :)

The format of having to click through the pages isn't idea. (Yes, I hate that, too! The first pages talk about well-known privacy search engines like DuckDuckGo, but there are a couple of interesting privacy search engines listed that some people may never have tried, like <strong>MetaGer</strong> and <strong>swisscows</strong>.

Why not simply setup a separate work profile(user) in android?

That way you can isolate work and personal stuff. Of course the sdcard could still be accessed from other profiles.
