Monterrey's free Preview now has OCR.
Also, the $7 forever app called TextSniper (https://textsniper.app) was a game changer for me. It's 99.99% accurate I've found over the years, even with crooked text.
And that Monterey Preview text grab works pretty good. I haven't done much of a comparison yet of Monterey Preview to TextSniper.Just habit using TS. Also, I like some of the other features that TextSniper has, so I'll probably stick with it. Learn more here (I'm not connected to the company):

There are already some helpful recommendations in the thread, and they are probably better suited for you. But there is also an app called TextSniper, which can copy/grab text from your screen(image, pdf, video, etc.) and speak it. Maybe for someone, it will be helpful as well.
>I can say that even though it's a high up front cost, their version changes last years (easily 5+ usually), so it's much cheaper than Evernote in comparison, while having much more features.
I see how DT's pricing can work out in one's favour if one sticks with it long term. However, whether splurging on it is a responsible decision really depends on what time of the year you're asking me, taking into account all other app/web subscription costs that I've already taken on, paying top-price for yet another notetaking app feels like luxury rather than necessity at this time. If I try to put things in perspective, the most expensive DT option, which I ain't getting, costs almost half my monthly room rental.
>Pro is needed for OCR, so if you are heavily using PDF files without a text layer, this might be worth it. They usually offer licenses 50% off on Black Friday if you wanna wait.
I rarely store anything requiring OCR as notes, as I have TextSniper, and would always make the effort to extract any text from images prior to pasting them in my notes. It's as quick as taking a screenshot + it just makes everything less complicated that way.
I might indeed wait for that Black Friday offer, provided I have the willpower to pry myself off DT after immersing in it for 30 days hehe. Thanks for the tip-off.
Cheers.
PS: I was just thinking... If you've signed up for DT's affiliate program, feel free to drop me a link privately just in case (or publicly, if rules allow). You've been really helpful. If I do decide to take the plunge, I'd like to return the favour somehow.
Get Swish for Mac, once you get this you'll never understand how you lasted without it:

And if you're a student, I would recommend getting textsniper. It's a powerful app that allows you to capture text from anything. Really helpful for professors who don't give you enough time to take notes:

if anyone else has useful apps PLZZZZ lmk thanks
Depending on the operating system, you can also try out an OCR utility that copies to plain text. It works with anything, not just PDF. On Win there’s http://capture2text.sourceforge.net, free, on Mac there’s https://textsniper.app, $7.
If you have a mac you could use this app https://textsniper.app/?ref=arkadik very useful only downside is that you have to purchase it one time but it's well worth it in my opinion.
if you have a MacBook I could recommend this app https://textsniper.app/?ref=arkadik very useful, even for getting text off slides while in lecture. Or if you want, you could just convert that photo into a pdf.
