It's a torrent client. Torrent clients are useful tools for downloading big (or small, it's kinda relative these days) files. Just because people use them as an easy and decentralized way to share copyrighted material doesn't mean it's the purpose nor the only use.
You can download public domain movies
You can download free software like Blender or Linux distros
You can download copyright free music and podcasts
They have been trying to kill torrents for a very long. The fact of the matter is, however, that there is nothing inherently wrong with torrenting. If I wanted to make a collection of all the public domain ebooks on Project Guttenberg and then distribute it with a torrent, I have the right do so. I'm not breaking any laws. Torrenting is the best way to do that unless I want to pay for server hosting and bandwidth.
They should just keep doing what they are currently doing, flagging and sending notices to ISPs when they find somebody torrenting copyrighted material. That's the only thing I think they legally have a right to do.

Second thing - just google "Pirates Bay or kick ass torents"(these sites go up and down all the time and they have lots of variation. This one is working now (https://pirate-proxy.app/) once there use the search bar to find what you are looking for.
Try to use a VPN service so you're able to hide what you are doing so they can't catch you

well, it is possible there will be some interruption and torrent will continue downloading data through insecure channels. So it's best to use Kill Switch feature. You may also want to consider https://www.vuze.com as your main bittorrent client as they can bind torrenting to your VPN IP and stop download when VPN is off.
