I have been using a new extension for chrome called Workona.
You can setup different workstations for different tasks. A workstation is similar to different windows within the same browser window.
Each workstation can have separate tabs.
You can close out each tab separately and open another, with all your saved tabs.
I have a different workstation set up for email, research, prospecting, learning and writing.
You can set it up any way you want.
It works really well keeping me on each particular task I am working on.
I use Workona for my research. It's a web app and extension that can save and organize your tabs by workspace. It basically maintains a window for each workspace that can be opened and closed as needed. Not sure if it's what you're exactly looking for, but it did a lot for my peace of mind when I had a ton of tabs open. Saved in the cloud and not your browser.
Hi /u/breathe_underwater, Workona support here. You may have already written in ([email protected]) but just in case, we want to address your concerns here.
>From what I can tell, if you so much as flip to or look at a tab, it automatically unsuspends it.
Our dedicated Workona Tab Suspender extension offers this feature, but it is not included in the Tab Manager extension. After you’ve installed the Tab Suspender extension, enable “Manual unsuspend” from tab suspension settings.
>Workona also groups all of my Workspaces/windows into a single window. When I go to change that setting, it warns me that they’ll reload each time...so, again, apparently they make it impossible to keep tabs/windows suspended if they’re open. And I definitely want to keep my Workspaces in separate windows - but suspended.
You can change Workona to open workspaces in separate windows within tab management settings. The setting you want is “Open workspaces in separate windows”. Now it will behave exactly as you described. Hope this helps! Feel free to email us if you have any other questions.
Are you on Firefox? This is an issue we've heard from some Firefox users. Our product team recommends updating the following Workona settings in this order:
If you're still having trouble, please email [email protected] and we can help you troubleshoot further.
So pleased someone with more in-depth knowledge is trying to solve this exact issue.
Instead of opening or bookmarking 1 by 1, I would think a more ideal and simpler solution would be to get the list of synced tabs and save that list directly. Possibly an add-on that works on the Android phone might more easily extract and save the open tabs instead of the list of synced tabs seen in FF desktop.
I have also tried OneTab to see if it saves them all because bookmark all tabs misses some. (I hadn't yet worked out what I have found in this thread as being needing to wait for them all to fully load before bookmark all tabs works.)
I am not knowledgeable enough on the moving target of the back-end of FF to be of any help there given the level you guys have got to, but it also seems several of you are TOO clever, so you are willing to try very complex routes to make up for the lack of what is as you say a long-outstanding basic functional shortcoming, given that the list is right before my eyes in 2 places.
All I want to do is save the synced tabs - or all tabs within Android, so they are not lost and I can close them all, without having to open all 900, wait until they load (which never successfully happens for them all) and then either bookmark all re-opened tabs or try OneTab.
I found this if it helps at all... https://workona.com/pages/how-to-save-and-restore-firefox-tabs/
Sorry to add to the chaos, but you might also consider a tool like Workona to help you organize the tabs in your browser for later review / capture / digestion.
Of course, I tend to accumulate groups of tabs as well... but still find that the ability to return to a set of thematic tabs allows me to better organize my sessions.
Not sure if you've looked into Workona, but we offer tab/session management that supports multiple windows in a few ways. Please keep in mind that we use the term "workspace" to mean an individual project with its own tabs, bookmarks, etc.
This may not be what you're looking for, but it's worth a shot. Let us know if you have a chance to play around with it; happy to answer follow-up questions.
it is listed here that workona shares your data with analytics and advertising services and law enforcement. as for other tab managers there are some that are open source like this one. but personaly i dont see the point of a tab manager extention, i preferr using diffrent windows and or virtual desktops
Hey u/li_gevaudan, just wanted to let you know that Workona takes security very seriously, and we are committed to ensuring your privacy. Our app doesn't have access to the content of your tabs, only the URLs. We encrypt your URLs at rest, we only transfer over SSL, and we encrypt/decrypt your session data client side. We've committed to never sell your data to third parties. You can learn more about our commitment to privacy here: https://workona.com/privacy/. This is really important to us, so please reach out if you have questions.

Is that Workona https://workona.com/ with you and others using the product/service as a team?
Or, is that "SIGN UP FREE" Workona Tab Manager https://workona.com/tab-manager/ with you alone using the extension?
Just so you know, Workona lets you save and collect all of those things (images, URLs, video, etc.) if they’re in a browser tab, cloud app, Google Drive, or on your computer. If you have the Workona tab manager extension, you can click the button in your browser bar or use the keyboard shortcut Opt + D (or Alt + D) to instantly save anything in the cloud. If you don’t have the extension, you can add resources right in a workspace (instructions here). That's also where you can upload files from your computer. Hope that helps!
It looks like a Workona Safari extension is planned: https://workona.com/help/browser-extensions/#safari
From their website:
Workona Safari extension
Status: Planned Note: You can access your workspaces on Safari by logging into your Workona account. However, some features will not be supported.
That looks pretty cool! Is it much different from the in-built FireFox sync? I'm looking for something like Workona, where you can save a "session". So it saves tabs, related links (that you marked), even files (that you upload from your PC or by connecting gdrive). I'm hoping there is a self-hosted alternative to it.
Yeah, I really like Safari how it works etc... I really wanna use it even right now! But unfortunately, I can't at the moment. "Workona" extension for Safari is still planned https://workona.com/help/browser-extensions/ :-(
Hey all! Check out a chrome extension called "Workona". I've been using I for about a year now and it's aim is to help you better organize your tabs. You can drag tabs from one "workspace" to another, all within one Google chrome window if you happen to open one or a bunch of tabs in the wrong workspace. Which tends to happen to us a lot it seems. An example of workspaces may be: work, video and music entertainment, social media, online shopping, property hunting, etc
Anyway, check it out and give it a shot for a couple days. I hope you all find it as helpful as I do. Stay safe and don't forget to wash your hands.
Here's the link.
I went to check on what heppened to OneTab in the store too, and it was gone. All of the stuff on my OneTab pages is gone too. When I was looking up what happened to it, this website offered this as an alternative: https://workona.com/
I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising.
You should give Workona a try. It's a professionally made extension for managing tab groups (“workspaces”). Works wonders. I've been using it for a few months and am loving it.
I really wish that Workona would do a port for VScode.
Sorry, I know that's not helpful OP but I feel your pain. Plus, if you aren't using Workona in your browser you should be. I have no ties to them but I really love it.
Good luck!
