I picked up my first ukulele about 6 months ago and felt pretty overwhelmed as someone with no musical instrument background. I did some searching for beginner resources and came across an app called Yousician. If you've ever used Duolingo, it works similarly, but for music. It records you while you play so you know if you're hitting the right notes (think real life Guitar Hero) which is pretty neat. The free version limits you to a certain amount of lessons per day, but I've found it to be good for me. I eventually started supplementing with YouTube videos and tabs once I had a few basic chords down.
I'm far from a pro uke player but getting this instrument is truly one of the best things I've ever done. It's a ton of fun and so exciting to see yourself make progress. It also costs around $50 for a decent beginner ukulele, so it's a fairly affordable hobby as far as music goes. I hope this was somewhat helpful and I'm looking forward to checking out the resources in the OP.
Boy have I got good news for you homeboy! Chords are free!!! https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwi9t_mDsaTkAhWKn7MKHRm6CJkYABABGgJxbg&ae=1&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAASE-RosXt8VL34iwu9CUlvr_IvrV8&sig=AOD64_3BcbqY1-dLmnmKIE_QqQ851rBVHQ&q&adurl=http://yousic...
Yousician is pretty great. If you're trying to learn guitar, ukulele, bass or piano it works really well. Essentially turns your computer or mobile device into a real life rockband type game. It uses the microphone and tells you if you're playing the right notes. You can pay for it, but there is a free tier that lets you practice for an hour a day I think. I've learned to play ukulele and guitar using this app.
What I do when I get a new instrument is usually learn how to play other songs, usually on youtube, then once I get a feel for the instrument I start to try and play songs that come to my head, try to try and play by ear, and eventually it gets easy.
Of course some instruments (such as the ukulele) are easier than others, and some instruments (for me, the violin) you'll just be pretty good to begin with, but you always have to learn about a certain instrument to learn how to play others more easily.
Say, you want to learn to play stringed instruments such as the bass, and the ukulele, if you know how to play guitar, they'll be way easier to learn to play. And if you want to play the organ, or synthesizer, if you know how to play piano it'll be way easier.
If you want to learn piano, Yousician is good, I used it to learn guitar, but there's other courses for other instruments. Here's a link: http://yousician.com/?gclid=CI2BgqaL89QCFRSIfgodIW8BWg
