tl;dr in English;

I always try to stay off public wifi, and even then when I do I found a way to dual VPN on the iphone using X-VPN (sets up as a regular VPN), then with either Betternet VPN/VPN Master (which sets up as personal VPN).
Guessing though that the maliciously crafted sites need to have mobile/iOS formatted pages ? It would seem strange to me that some unformatted sites for mobile devices would target phones
Well, the best investment one can make when traveling to China is a VPN, sad to let you know that Gmail does not work here, nor does YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, not even fucking Google, and the list is way longer.
You can find free wifi pretty much every where and you can access it if you have a valid phone number but without a VPN, it's useless.
Your best bet is getting a VPN now since you're still not in China, it is harder to access VPN sites in China because they block them all. I use Astrill, which is amazing and working well on mobiles and laptop, and it is also not overpriced like the other VPNs
If you'll use it on mobile only, there is plenty of free VPN apps like VPN Master or Hideme.
Just make sure everything is working well before you come to China, or you'll be stuck with this piece of shit network.
PC, VPN Zenmate. Udah bertahun2 aman dan lancar
HP, VPN tapi ganti2. Sekarang pake VPN Master udah 6 bulanan lancar dan ga lemot. Bisa jadi karena inet gua yg kenceng juga sih tapi. Ada beberapa variable yg bisa menentukan speed sih. Cuma memang pasti penggunaan VPN bikin speed jd melambat, as we all know.
I spoke too fucking soon.
As of last night, Turkey has blocked access to a number of VPN services, including but not limited to VPN Master, Hotspot Shield VPN, Psiphon, Zenmate VPN, TunnelBear, Zero VPN, VyprVPN, Private Internet Access VPN, Espress VPN, IPVanish VPN. They are adding new ones as we speak.
How many platforms does Zenmate support? I know that it has chrome exstension; is there a solution for iOS device? I have been VIP of VPN Master for half a year. The speed of free version is not so fast, but I can watch videos online smoothly after buying VIP. The only problem is that they don't support PC end.
Get a VPN account. They're cheap, they secure your connection from evesdropping and let you connect to a web site from anywhere in the world, which can give you the same internet we get in America. IPredator is good from what I hear. I like that it's run by the pirate bay guys but they take payment in Euros, which is kind of unfamiliar to me so I don't use it. IP Vanish is what I use because it's stable and has a lot of exit nodes. TOR Guard isn't bad, but it's not that reliable, IME. A few years ago VPN Master worked great for my GF when she visited China. It got her through the great firewall of China, but then again any decent VPN can do that. There are a lot of services out there between $5 and $10 US. Shop around a bit, you will see what I mean.
