Yeah, it'd probably be possible with tasker. Didn't think about combing the two apps to achieve it. Also possibly with IFTTT and AutoRemote depends on whether the IFTTT spotify/lastfm/etc applets support setting the likes or just reading them though.
Anyway, love the design again, probably the best Zune inspired design I've ever seen.
Autoremote is one way to trigger commands to an android device. It can trigger Tasker automations which gives it a fair bit of power.
oh wow, I completely missed that you were using Android, even though it's the 1st word in the title :)
Can you clarify what it is you need to do remotely on the android device?
If it's something like restarting the magic mirror app, you could for example use Tasker and AutoRemote to send a message to the device to close the app and open it up again
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autoremote&hl=en
That API is a real pain in the ass to work with...
I would highly recommend that you use AutoRemote => IFTTT's Maker Channel to trigger a Todoist recipe instead.
I use it myself, it works really well and fast :-}
You can also use the Maker channel in IFTTT + AutoRemote or Join integrate Tasker both ways. It let's you trigger things on IFTTT based on Tasker stuff and make Tasker trigger based on things on IFTTT :)
Yeah Unified Remote might be the best idea. I also recommend AutoRemote + EvenGhost, that should do the same.
Edit: link added
I would use the build-in ping action. First I would ping a site/ip-adress that should always be online. Like 8.8.8.8 (google DNS services). If that action ends with an error, it means that you have no internet access.
The second action would be the one to ping your website. Inside this action check the continue task after error. If %err is set, you have internet access. But your website is down. If %err isn't set, you have internet access. And you website is online. If you don't have internet access, the task will be stopped by the first action.
You can use it to ping a URL. But ping doesn't use any ports. So you can't specify a port to ping.
repeatedly pinging an URL will drain you battery. So an alternative could be to use a service like uptimerobot. And it can notify tasker that the website is down using webhooks and autoremote
AutoRemote Plugin. This can send and receive webhooks from internet, as well as GCM messages, WiFi and BT messages between Android. It can also receive a webhook say from your laptop to tell you your laptop battery level. You can feed any information you want with this.
The simplest way of getting the non lite versions is to share the link to the lite, edit it and remove lite from the package name and reopen in Play.
João removed them from search in fear Google would delete them with policy changes..

I understand it's usually better to state one's general intentions than some specific solution, but my intentions really are simple and I don't see it helping. Still, can't hurt.
All I need is an app that lets someone send me a push notification. The primary reason is because the messaging app I use (Discord) is unreliable at sending its own notifications. Finding an alternative messenger is not a solution (you know how it is trying to get people to switch between messengers) and so a one-click 'poke' solution is the best way to go for me to bring my attention to the messenger (and possibly other things in the future). I always appreciated the ability to poke people in Teamspeak back when I used it and so thought it'd be great to have something more global like that.
The main reason SMS is not feasible is because service in my area is very unreliable and, in fact, does not even exist in my place of residence. I understand there are way to get SMS from the internet on my phone, but I believe it'd be a lot more convenient for everyone to have a simple push of a button to do it and not require them to type out the recipient number and a message.
Fortunately it seems /u/rumourmaker18's suggested app, AutoRemote, can do exactly what I need.
In that case it would be alot simpler to use either IFTTT and its maker channel together with AutoRemote to trigger a recipie that updates a spreadsheet, or to use the Spreadsheet Tasker Plugin.
AutoRemote would be the way to do exactly that over BT :)
There's also an intro/trial version you can check out as well.
There is no Join support but you can trigger and send data to IFTTT through the AutoRemote plugin and the Maker channel. If you would find that usefull.
With the demise of the Chrome2Phone service (and the Fox2Phone Firefox add-on that worked with it), I started looking at alternative ways to quickly push a link from Firefox to my phone. I found that a Tasker plug-in I already owned, AutoRemote, had just this capability (among many more). The author, João Dias, even provides a bookmarklet that can be used to push the current Firefox page to your Android device.
I wanted to be able to push things even more easily, which led to me creating my first Firefox add-on. With AutoRemote Push (Unofficial), you can right-click a tab, a link, or an image to push it to your phone. (Of course there is also a toolbar button.)
Hope you find it useful.
That would likely be the way to record the audio. To do the direct sending of the file you would use the plugin AutoRemote or the new Join App from AutoApps.
Basically your wife's phone would send the alert voice file via one of the above methods, your phone/device would receive it directly, and then first use the "End Call" Action to end any existing call, and then use the "Open File" Action to play it.
How are you planning on controlling the Chromebook? Tasker won't be able to control it. You could pretty easily open a URL using Autoremote (you don't even really need Tasker for that), but I don't know how you would cast the screen and go into full screen.
If I were setting something up along these lines, I'd probably use AutoRemote instead of SMS. for one thing your FP could be configured to ignore commands without a password. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autoremote&hl=en
AutoRemote uses Google Cloud Messaging service for push notifications, so relies on a data connection. Do you simply not have the phone hooked up to a data plan? If so this suggestion has the same basic shortcoming as what you're currently doing.

You could try the AutoRemote plugin.
Blame Google, for both counts..
Not sure if João forgot to update lite to use the new URL shortener scheme.

Requires:
How are the alerts/sounds generated? Do they generate EG events that can then be used? Most likely you don't know. So give a short example of an alert - how they are generated by which trigger/program and what exactly do they do, please.
If EG recognizes your alert/sound events then an AutoRemote message can be sent to Tasker/AR (your phone).
Happy if I helped. I haven't done it but you can hard-wire sensors with something I think is called super or takeover switch.

And for down the rabbit hole stuff if you're not already familiar with these apps. I once again use Tasker with all these apps to control everything.
Automation is key.

Autoremote and EventGhost and talk to each other with a plugin. Options are limitless with Tasker.
I am not experiencing the "device not responding error", haven't had a problem with learning or frequencies, rather annoyingly for you, it all just worked for me! Sorry, I'm not much help.
There are some new skills in Alexa, rather than tapping the "Smart Home" button in the Alexa menu, tap the Skills one and select the Smart Home option and some more come up.
At the end of the day, Alexa's basic skills are "Turn x On/Off or dim". There seem to be other skills that add to this functionality, MyButler, Yonomi amongst others. I've not tried any yet, my weekend was rewriting my Tasker Smart Home to accept commands from Alexa and allow me uber control, albeit within the crappy "On/Off" command set. (ha-bridge is what I am using running on my synology NAS + autoremote)
It's possible to achieve using AutoRemote and AutoNotification yes, but I would Highly recommend that you use Join instead. It's an app created by the same developer but it operates as a lone app independent of Tasker.
The easiest solution would be to use AutoInput and its UI Query.
Place it as the first action (no setup is necessary). Then set an IF statement with a Regex match:
A1. UI Query A2. If %aiapp !~R Mediaapp1|Mediaapp2|Mediaapp3 A3. Open Dialog A4. End if
Nothing more should be required for that task.
There are a few apps you can use to communicate between devices. You could try AutoRemote, Join, or Pushbullet for example.

Some of you probably saw the first version. I have done some changes since then and I am very happy with what I have so far. There are still some minor things I'd like to fix, but I am certainly approaching my goal here.
All the skins are outlined and explained briefly in this image. For a video demonstration of some of the skins (especially the temperature adjustment), see the Youtube video.
This has been an ongoing project of mine with the goal of combining basic home automation with my phone, my girlfriend's phone and my home computer.
Along with some basic practical skins, I have three skins that receive input from my phone. This communication happens with the help of Tasker for Android with the AutoRemote plugin and EventGhost for Windows (comes with an AutoRemote plugin). These three skins are visible in the video and image, and are briefly explained in the image. They are:
This is a complex setup involving lots of Tasker work, some EventGhost and some Lua scripting. Please ask if you have questions.

Also noteable is the phone widget (seen in the video) that always displays information about my next class. I may or may not do a Rainmeter skin sometimes that also displays this information. The widget is achieved using Tasker (HTTP Get) and Zooper Widget Pro.
