Aycon 2.0: Create and edit app-shortcuts on pre 7.1 devices
Hi,
my post didn't got a lot of attention and the Google Play listing was also not up-to date back then so here's my second attempt:
Aycon 2.0 let's you create and customize app-shortcuts on devices running an older version of Android. We are not using the official API (which is only available on Android 7.1+ devices) so it has it's limitations (e.g. dynamic shortcuts are not supported) but it still offers some great use-cases especially if your device doesn't support them out of the box.
Feel free to give it a try (it's free and without ads) or a second chance in case you looked at the listing on the Play Store before the update was active.
Thanks!
Workaround, (this actually a work around of a workaround)
get Aycon https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsapps.aycon
add widget on home screen, select aycon. Pick app & icon. Done
Aycon allows you to use png or jpg images to change app shortcut icons. It can also change shortcut titles. Note that it cannot change the icon of the executable file, just shortcuts.
Aycon allows you to modify the pic and text of app shortcuts. You can replace the original icon with a transparent png (200x200)? and name the shortcut whatever you want. That workaround won't save any space unless you incorporate the name into the transparent png, while leaving the title name blank.
U can change the theme which changes the system icons and some of Google's. There is a way around it but it will only change the icons on the home screen.

U go to widgets and pick Aycon, choose the app and what icon u like and once u click ok it will show in the home page.
I hope that might help.
I used Aycon for a while and it got the job done.
Unfortunately it stopped working for me a few weeks ago, maybe it's just me though, you could give it a try.
Aycon shortcut editor allows you to change the icon or name of any app shortcut. Note that you will not be able to edit the main app, just any shortcuts you create from it. No root. No ads.
Aycon (Icon & Shortcut Editor) allows one to modify shorcuts by renaming or leaving the name out completely. You could also change the icon or even remove it with an invisible png. No modified launcher needed.
I suggest you try Aycon, it is easier and better UI.

Free, no ads and supports the App Shortcuts feature (7.1+).
Aycon (no ads) supports changing the shortcut icon of any homescreen app. Cannot change the icon of the main drawer app.
Aycon will let you see all available options for a single app at a time.
