First things first, i dont own a shield yet, as i hoped the new release to have atleast some major improvements over the 2017 which is hardly an improvement over the 2015 version. Wow... its been half a decade. For now I'am not really impressed i have to say, but feel free to change my mind. Nvidia probably knows they are still by far on top of every other streaming box, so no need to pull out the big guns yet and feed us the same thing for another 2 years... Sad thing it works... I, atleast, after 1 year of waiting will probably crave in an get this model because I don't want to wait yet another year or two. So now to my mainpoint:
Why is everyone so keen on having yet another remote in their living room?
When I first did my research a year ago i was looking to minimize dependancy for remotes, but i didn't want to make any compromises when it comes to the ease of use. I found what seemed to be the most optimal, almost no cost alternative which to me atleast had zero downsides. So pls someone enlighten me, why noone uses a CEC Hdmi cable to connect it to the the tv and use the the cetusplay app?

"Don't u guys have phones?"
No, seriously, app looks way better than any remote i could imagine and don't tell me your smartphone isn't in reach when u're chilling on your couch. It's probably even in your hands already
The Main link is for the TV, and for your phone is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cetusplay.remotephone
Much easier to install apps directly via app to the TV, better control, mouse mode, RAM booster, cast, youtube directly Its with ADS but not too bad unless u want to spend 7 bucks
This is probably the best remote app out there which can meet your expectations.

It demands a host application running on android TV box also. It does work well with some android TVs/boxes hence you have to find it out yourself.
PS: My reply is based on the understanding that you are looking for an app alternative for Rii i8 kinda hardware remote.
Have you tried CetusPlay? It's a newer app by the makers of Wukong Remote.
EDIT: I guess you mean CetusPlay as the revamped version of Wukong remote..
The app itself is safe. I've used it for a while now on my FireTV. I got it fonto my FireTV using an app called Cetus Play that lets you sideload apps to it. I can't speak to other versions of it, nor can I speak to the legitimacy of that website.

I used to use CetusPlay when I had an "android" box instead of MiBox. Works great.
