Here's the app in theyre talking about,.called Christella VoiceUp on iPhone and Android
The app's free, with one free lesson, and 3 paid lessons £14.99 each. That's £44.97 in total, so pretty pricey for an app but not that much compared to paid voice lessons I guess.
Has anyone on here tried it? How is it?
Just out of curiosity, has anyone actually paid for and used the VoiceUp app and can testify as to how effective it is? I've been considering it and the reviews don't seem all that bad
Christella: Voiceup is a pretty good one if you can afford the $15 per lesson (there are three) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf
There was also another really good one that is an actual pitch analyzer and more and features like intonation and resonance tips or something too.
I know someone mentioned it on this sub, I'll try to find it again.
I only discovered it last night. The app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf&hl=en_GB) is free to download (on android at least - I assume its available for iphone too) and has a sample tutorial which also includes feedback on how you sound.
That's as far as I have got so far, but it looks interesting. There are two or three stages which you need to buy at about £15 each.
I recommend trying out the Christella VoiceUp app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf&hl=en), as this is something the lessons in the app touch on (basic stage costs $15 but imo it's worth it).
If $15 is out of the question, then just try this and practice on your own. Place two fingers on the side of your nose and say "Mhmm!". You should feel vibrations in your nose when you do this. Practice saying other words that begin with the letter M, such as make, move, and music, and try to emphasize the M (say "Mmmake, Mmmove, Mmmusic) and focus on keeping all of the vibrations from the entire word up in your head instead of letting them drop into your throat/chest.
Once you get the hang of this try to move on to short phrases that begin with a word starting with M, such as "Make some tea", "Move over there", and "Music sounds nice" (these are just examples) and again try to focus on not letting the vibrations fall down from the initial M sound. Once you get the hang of this (practice for a few minutes every day) you should start being able to maintain your face resonance without needing to start with M words.
Yesss I love singing practice my voice.
The app is called voiceup, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf Kind of expensive for what it offers, my doctor told me some some of her patients have liked it a lot
There's VoiceUp, but it's 3 modules (basic, intermediate, advanced) that are $20 each. I've only purchased the first one because $60 total feels kinda steep, but I think the advantage is that you can watch them whenever, and the instructor gives you some time to actually practice along with them, whereas you need to pause most YouTube videos because they're just kinda glossing over their exercises. I've never been to a real speech pathologist so, I have no idea if what she's teaching is equally effective.
I strongly recommend trying the Christella VoiceUp app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf&hl=en
It has three stages that all cost $15 each. A beginner, intermediate, and advanced one that each contain 5 lessons/exercises that cover the various aspects of feminizing your voice including resonance, pitch, intonation and vowel length and a final lesson that combines all 4 of those aspects into one.
I recommend getting just the first stage in the beginning and listen to it and do the exercises every day for at least a couple weeks, then move on to the more advanced lessons if you feel like you still need them.
It also has a feature to track the feminization of your voice, similar to the popular Voice Pitch Analyzer app but I prefer the way this app tracks your progress compared to VPA. It has three parts: A survey where you rate how you feel your progress is coming along, a reading section (that uses the rainbow passage), and a general speaking section where it just asks you to talk for 30 seconds. The first time you use it I recommend speaking in your current default male voice so that you can set your baseline to really see just how far you've come. After that I'd say try not to use this feature more than once or twice a week at most so you don't stress yourself out about your progress.
I've been working with Christella Antoni and she's been great. She's just released and app as a training resource. The app itself is free and has an initial module for free but then you have to buy the following courses; quite reasonably priced though.

>She dismissed it as not worth the effort, it doesn't work.
It does work, but it does require sustained effort to get to a point where your voice is passable. I got serious about practicing my voice back in September and it's at a point now where it's perfectly passable. It still takes a bit of conscious effort to start speaking in my new voice but once I get started it's pretty easy to maintain.
To practice, I used the app Christella VoiceUp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf&hl=en) which some people don't like because it costs money to unlock all of the lessons ($15 each, $45 total) but I absolutely swear by it. It's got a free trial lesson available if she would be willing to see what it has to offer but doesn't want to drop cash on something yet.
In the basic stage there are 4 lessons and exercises that each help with individual aspects of voice feminization, and then a final lesson/exercise that combines the previous 4 lessons into one. When I was first starting out I only used the basic stage and practiced it every day in my car on the way to work. I picked up the intermediate stage after a few months of practicing the basic one and have yet to pick up the advanced stage and based on my results I'm not sure I really need to either.
The app also has a tracking feature to track the feminization of your voice, here are my results over time:

>Everyone sounds like shit at first in voice training, that's just how it goes.
What u/ColleenTheDestroyer said is so true. I hated my sound when I first started training so much that I would never do it unless I was absolutely alone because I was so ashamed. Even my wife who has always been super supportive didn't ever get to hear me practice during that period.
OP, you aren't alone, I started voice training back in september and this is where I was at with my voice:

That was the best I could manage when I started, and it sounded probably as awful as you think you sound right now. But take a look at my more recent results now:
It takes time and effort, and in the beginning you are probably going to hate yourself, but I believe you can do it. If you are interested in what I did, I used the app Christella VoiceUp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf&hl=en) which some people don't like because it costs money to unlock all of the lessons ($15 each, $45 total) but I absolutely swear by it. The app also has a tracking feature to track the feminization of your voice, which you should probably limit yourself to using no more than around once a week so that you don't stress yourself out and you have more time for your practicing to set in. That's where I got those screenshots I posted earlier.

It seems to me like you totally glossed over the voice therapy portion of the post you quoted and are fixated on the surgery aspect.
Just to make it absolutely clear, even if VFS had a 0% rate of complications you would still need to do vocal training. It's not an optional step if you want your voice to sound naturally feminine, because VFS will only really affect your pitch, which is only one of about 4 key aspects of vocal feminization, the other 3 being resonance, intonation, and vowel lengthening, which are all things that need to be practiced and trained.
VFS should really only be a last resort if you make absolutely zero progress raising the pitch of your voice through training, which means months of earnest training with no progress. It isn't good enough to spend 5 minutes practicing and then giving up because you hate how you sound.

Step one is join a trans-friendly gaming group that won't judge you for how you sound. The one I'm in is called Isen Rose. We have a discord, but you'll need to apply here to join: http://isenrosecabal.shivtr.com/. In addition to what I'm about to talk about below, being a part of this group was a great help because I could get constant practice with my voice with a group of people who never judged me for sounding masculine
Step two is to redouble your efforts on voice training. I'm not sure what methods you tried, but here's what worked for me:

The guide is really helpful, and I paired it with VoiceUp. VoiceUp isn't free (or even required), but it's affordable. It's a nice set of lessons to build muscle memory.

The main thing is that there's more to feminizing your voice than just raising your pitch. Resonance and intonation are also crucially important. A speech therapist can help you with this, but if that's out of the question I'd recommend trying out the app Christella VoiceUp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.speechtools.christellamtf&hl=en) and at least picking up the basic stage (which costs $15).

Now, getting into how I trained my voice, I first want to mention something that is crucially important.
You are probably going to absolutely hate how you sound when you are first starting out. This is normal. This is because you haven't trained your voice yet. You can't become a competitive athlete in a day, and you can't train your voice that quickly either.
Power through the awkwardness. It sucks, but just do it. Your future self will love you for it, and sing songs about you in her brand new, sing songy, naturally feminine voice that she only gets to have because you put in the effort to give it to her.
