It’s been almost a year since the release of the first version of Cmoar VR Cinema. Fully satisfied, we’d like to proudly put the newest update in your hands - an update that changes the application beyond recognition.
Cmoar VR Cinema gives you a whole range of possibilities. Apart from displaying the movies from your memory card, you can also display a video from your PC in any format you wish thanks to LAN streaming.
That’s not the end of good news. To make things even more exciting, we’ve added an option of automatic subtitles and posters downloading. The most distinctive feature is, however, the possibility to watch 2D and 3D movies directly from YouTube.

Have a Google Cardboard v1 and a Galaxy S6, I'd say it's worth buying into.
Quality depends on what you're trying to do (and how you do it). If you're using a native android app like Cmoar Cinema it's going to look quite nice - especially if the dev designed it well. If you're trying to go for the Oculus Thrift (stream games in SBS, use a mouse emulator w/ phone gyro), then you'll get less than perfect results - although it's possible to make it look better, you just also need corresponding hardware and know-how.
Now, it'll never compare to something like the GearVR or HTC Vive in terms of what it can do, but it's still a nice toy to play around with and a great for modding.
>Would you be interested if more games were developed for Android VR?
If they're good quality, yes.

Currently, we do not suport DK2/Gear VR but we believe it's an interesting app for Gear VR and Note 4 owners. We'll be happy to receive your feedback :)

No, you totally misunderstand what I am saying. I mean, you weren't even close.
I am saying that by wearing VR, you can SIMULATE watching a movie in a movie theater. The movie would still be 2D, only the theater would be simulated. Instead of a movie theater, you'd be watching Star Wars in the bridge of a Super Star Destroyer, sitting in the bridge watching the movie projected onto a virtual screen. You could do this with literally any movie.
Edit: Here is an app that does exactly what I am describing
And no, gaming is not the biggest appeal for VR. Watching nature documentaries filmed for VR, porn filmed for VR, all the educational applications... that is the biggest appeal for VR.
I have a friend with a DK1, and I've played games. Its just not quite there yet for a large portion of the games out today.

This costs money and it's Cardboard, but it's the ONLY mobile app I've seen that allows you to watch YouTube "in a virtual movie theater" kind of similar to the Oculus 360 Video movie theater. Other apps that have YouTube theaters may exist but I haven't found them yet. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Cmoar.CmoarVirtualCinema&hl=en
Since it's Cardboard, movement is not as smooth when you turn your head, but you probably won't be turning your head much while watching a YouTube video playing up there on the movie screen. The app also has a pretty impressive set of controls you activate via gaze. You can use your voice to search for YouTube videos and use gaze to control the player, adjust the theater and perform other tasks.
You'd probably only want to use this app if you want to sit in a theater and watch YouTube videos. The free trial allows you to see some YouTube videos playing but you need to purchase the PRO version to see the videos without the watermark that covers up most of the video.
The Package Disabler app disables the Gear VR Service so you can launch Cardboard apps without the Oculus home screen launching.
You can also insert the phone into the Gear VR without inserting the phone's USB port into the Gear VR's port. I find it easier to do that when I position the phone so it's USB port fits under the Gear VR snapping clip that's not the Gear VR's USB port. Daydream's for the S8's going to be pretty helpful especially since Daydream has it's own built-in YouTube and Street View apps.
Have you tried the Cmoar VR Cinema Demo app on Android? If you like what you see, there's an option to buy the PRO version.
Personally I like it very much, it has all the features I want. :)
The Oculus Video app will only run on the Gear VR platform. But there are plenty of alternatives such as Cmoar VR Cinema. Fulldive VR has a virtual cinema as well, and is the closest thing to a usable fully-featured "Home" menu I've yet seen for the Google Cardboard side of VR.
I feel compelled to mention though, since you are in fact asking your question in this Gear VR subreddit, that such alternatives are somewhat underwhelming when compared to Oculus Home, Oculus Video and Samsung VR.
(not that I would necessarily recommend picking up a Gear VR and a flagship Samsung phone right now with Daydream just around the corner, unless of course you're a diehard Samsung fan)
The list :
Honorable mentions :
It's Google Cardboard but it puts you in a real theater where you can watch youtube videos. I've tested it. Even some of the reviewers are impressed because it's like you're in a real cinema -- just not one that's as good as the one in the Gear VR.
The problem is, and a reason it has lower ratings, you can launch it and see how it works, but you can't actually watch YouTube videos. It's a surprisingly robust app because you can control a lot using gaze.
You're free to install it and see if you want to risk paying for the paid version that says it will let you see the YouTube videos. It says there's a search feature, the ability to find channels, etc.

The top version is the demo version and the bottom one is the pro version that says it actually plays the YouTube videos. On the first link, the top demo version, you can see a picture of what the theater actually looks like.
I'm assuming that it's not a ripoff because people are paying to install the real version. Here's one reviewer's comments ..
!!
"Fantastic - Needs higher rating Screen looks huge. Quality cinema surroundings and loads of customization options. YouTube and YouTube3D works perfectly and voice search integration works perfectly and it reads my phone storage well. Haven't tested the Plex integration yet but looking forward to it when it gets fixed"
!!
So it's a pretty impressive app for Cardboard. The only reason that Cardboard might be viable is because in a real theater, you probably don't look around much once a movie starts. As we know with Cardboard, simply turning your head can give you motion sickness.
You can use a Package Disabler app to disable the Oculus service on your phone. That enables you to play Cardbard apps without the Oculus Home screen automatically launching.
And if you have a smaller phone about the size of an S6, you can simply insert the phone (upside down) into the Gear VR and snap it in. That's the fastest way to watch just about anything because you simply launch a Cardboard app on your phone and snap it into the Gear VR. It bypasses all Oculus software.

I finally got sideload working on my Go so I'm going to test another app named YTCinemaVR. It's a sideloadVR app that supposedly lets you view YouTube videos too. The sideloadvr page says it has over 40,000 downloads.
http://sideloadvr.com/detail.php?id=22
It's funny how from the screenshot on that page, that Cinema, which should work on the Gear VR and Go, doesn't appear as realistic as the Cardboard Cmoar cinema. You can test it by installing SideloadVR and installing the YTCinemaVR app.
Finally, using WebVR, you can make your own cinema that can play anything -- including YouTube videos. You simply embed a YouTube using the iframe code YouTube gives you when you click the Embed button while watching a YouTube video.
That iframe can go into a div panel that you can place in a 360 photo of your choice. You can then view the whole experience in the Gear VR by launching the Oculus (or Samsung Internet) browser and visiting that URL. When you do, the scene will be changed and you'll wind up in a 360 view of the YouTube video playing on a giant screen positioned somewhere in the scene. If you want a cinema to be that scene, you use a 360 photo of a cinema and you position the iframe so that it overlays the real screen that's in the 360 photo.
Here's a WebVR demo I made where I placed a giant movie screen on the edge of a lake.
The movie screen shows a movie trailer, but I could easily replace that trailer with a YouTube video, thanks to that iframe embed code. And, I could replace the lake scene with the inside of a real cinema 360 equirectangular photo. The end result is, you'd feel like you were in a real cinema watching a YouTube video. Add a view controls, and you'll be able to do anything you like, such as change videos, view playlists, etc.
In this demo you can see a Play/Pause toggle button at the bottom of the screen but we could add more controls. Because the screen is a real 3D object, you could walk around it if you were wearing a 6DoF headset. I tested this in the Mixed Reality Portal but it will work on any headset because WebVr works on any headset. The 360 scene is stationary because it's a photo, but if you move, you can see the screen from different angles, resize the screen, move it around, etc.
WebVr is ideally suited for these types of scenarios because they're not resource intensive and require little if any animation. That's the route I'd take because you get to design your own Cinema. All you need is a 360 photo of the inside of a real cinema. One way to find them is to search for equirectangular theater on Google. The photo has to be taken from the perspective of the camera being seated somewhere in the audience looking at the screen. These photos are a bit harder to find than home theater type photos where the theater is a bit smaller, such as the one you see in the NetFlix or Hulu app.
I assume you're simply looking for a YouTube viewing environment that's a little more the one you get by watching YouTube on the standard Oculus browser or Samsung Internet Browser.
Note: Here's a demo of Google's free Marzipano tool that helps people create virtual tours for their websites. It shows how you can embed a Google video into anything -- even a billboard in a city street scene.
http://www.marzipano.net/demos/embedded-hotspots/index.html
That's a real HTML page containing a 360 photo of the city. Click and drag the scene to look around it. They simply overlaid the real billboard with the iframe containing the YouTube embed code. It's not a WebVR page so that demo only works in a Web browser. However, it shows the concept - embed a YouTube iframe into a 360 photo and in your case, you'd like that photo to be the inside of a movie theater.
