I love crosswords and nonograms, and have for years (I'm 42)! CrossMe and my favorite crossword app are the only apps I install first and on every Android device I own (or after factory reset).
Cross Me is the one I'm still playing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiledynamix.crossme
I don't actually know how the ads are on the free one since I bought the premium version. They have a colour version too!
If you're on Android, I can't recommend CrossMe Enough. I bought it about 9 years ago, and have played it consistently since. They continuously release new puzzles (2740 total as of writing), and I dig the interface.
My two greatest idle games, easy to start & stop, and I have hundreds of hours in each:
Shattered Pixel Dungeon, well balanced roguelike with active development. And the developer is active on /r/PixelDungeon .
CrossMe/premium nonogram/picross puzzles with a very nice interface. I've literally been playing for 9 years and am only about 80% through the puzzles (largely because they frequently add more puzzles).
Honorable mentions include Battle of Polytopia, Alto's Odyssey, and Simon Tatham's Puzzles
I like Cross Me
What's up fellow dad. I play nonogram games which are easy to just stop and continue later. If you've never played them I recommend watching a few yt videos on tips on solving them. Very zen. I play these two the most:

I prefer this one, been playing it for years and it's still fun.
