I got addicted/obsessed right away, and it has died down a bit but not entirely. I'm not excited to reconcile transactions or do stuff like that anymore, but allocating income has been and always will be like a video game to me. In my head I equate it to distributing resources to optimize my life and win at budgeting, and the planner in me finds that really fun. I get excited when my wife asks questions about how we spend our money because it means I get to go run some reports and give her some incredibly accurate numbers/percents that are useful in our game of money management.
I never really got into it, but YNAB reminds me of this to-do list app that makes your to-do list into a RPG (EpicWin). Take out the trash and you get XP and level up and stuff. YNAB is just so gameified in my head where my net worth is my XP and that's always going to be fun for me as long as I'm earning more than I'm spending.
Most likely you wont get prescribed a stimulant if you have previous addiction problems. More likely you'll get something like strattera or whatever its called. Also, Epic Win is a fantastic scheduling app.
Wasn't there an app where you made a fantasy character, and set a life goal which was represented as a castle you had to get to, and you put side quests to complete before getting there like "Buy a notebook" etc. Completing tasks got you XP and the like.
EDIT: it's called Epic Win
I know you're not knocking, I'm a pretty robotic/objective guy - don't hesitate to point out negatives. There's a few more that have popped up over the years I've written down somewhere but not sure where; if I find them I'll update here. Also look at similar-to on EpicWin, I'm seeing "RPG ToDo List & Calendar", "Habit Hunter", "Life Up", ... yeah the space has exploded (one of those "inevitable" ideas, like ToDo lists).
BTW, you say you've solo'd. I highly recommend going social. You don't want Habitica to be pleasant/comfortable, you want it to kick your ass. For me, boss fights with friends has kept me the most accountable to dailies I'd otherwise "eat" (eh, I've got enough HP). Can join mine if you want, drop a UserID. Anyone reading, likewise - I'll figure out a way to keep my party-size manageable later; but I've been hankering for a bit more social. Thought about rolling Rogue & wandering to other peoples' parties for 1month at a time, but my current party said they'd be sad :)
I loved the app task hammer. It was like a character from Dungeons & dragons but the tasks that you had to do with level you up. Task hammer, however, no longer exists.
