I have also begun tracking the highest and lowest prices that an application or game has ever been at. Google doesn't have an API for the Play Store for me to tap into, so this data is just based on what I have seen these apps at.
But I feel that it was a good feature to add for those who are curious what the current sale price is compared to the lowest (or even highest it's ever been at
Edit - Something else I wanted to toss in here that I have learned by doing this for three years. Don't believe some of the discount tags that you see in the icon of an application.
This is a big example. I see this app goes a game I see go on sale at least every other month. Prices range from 1.99 or 2.99 to 0.99, yet even at full price they constantly keep the 80% off tag on their icon.
Many, many other apps/games do this as well and the developers likely do it because it helps increase sales. . .but it's disingenuous to the community. So don't believe everything you see in the app icon
I've played this first one for about an hour while my kids watched. It was fun showing them how video games used to be. Pretty creative idea. If you just want to experience the first one, it looks like its on sale for $0.99 on Google Play. I don't remember where I got it... probably a bundle sometime, but I have gotten $5 of entertainment out of the first one, though some of that is just enjoying my kids reactions to seeing the game evolve.
Evoland is currently on sale. It's like Final Fantasy but you upgrade the game (movement, background, 2D->3D...et.c) while playing it.
Nova Launcher Prime is not a game but generally a good investment. Would wait for a sale.
It actually takes you through the evolution of graphics in RPGs while keeping the gameplay pretty casual. Definitely a good starter RPG.

Evoland is greatI It's an RPG game that evolves through the RPG genre from sepia-toned dot matrix all the way through PS3-ish graphic styles. Its like a Zelda or Final Fantasy game, so you'll likely be familiar with game play.

Evoland is pretty cool. got it on sale for ~0.99€ recently and its really awesome. a bit short though, but for a mobile game the quality is very good :) i'll play evoland 2 on my next long trip

Oceanhorn? Not sure if it's indie-size project though.
Demon's Rise, 7 Mages... but you will need a great graphics artist(s).

Maybe something like Evoland?

It seems to me that such games are higher priced premium on mobile ($5-$15 range), probably because it's a niche market.
I might recommend keeping an eye on the humble store and an ear out for mobile bundles. I've bought a few of their mobile bundles based on having heard of / wanting at least one title and managed to get a number of good ones that I never would have known about. It's a great way to build a library of premium titles on the cheap if you're not, say, an Amazon Prime subscriber.
Recently, I've enjoyed my time with Evoland and This War of Mine from their last mobile bundle. I haven't tried the other titles from that bundle but I've certainly got my 7$ worth already.
There's a game like this on Android.

Evoland Was $4.99 now $1.99 (Nvidia Shield TV compatible) *
Only two I can recommend
PokeMMO - Pokemon MMORPG on Android - https://pokemmo.eu/
Evoland 1 & 2 - Action adventure game that evolves as you play. Start in basic Sprite old-school gameplay and go through RPG, to 3D to top down shooter etc - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.shirogames.evoland12 / https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playdigious.evoland2
Evoland 1 & 2, I really had a lot of fun with these. Great for offline play if you're out and about a lot or traveling around. From retro Gameboy to PS2 style graphics and a decent story to boot. Countless hours were spent making it all the way through the story.
Was it an RPG? (Like Zelda)?
I'm thinking evoland, caves, cardinalquest
