Second edit: Found it! If you search the IOS app store for "fictionpress inc" it will show up. But searching for "fanfiction" or "fanfiction.net" just shows the pentaloop one, and several other clones, for me. The official app is: https://itunes.apple.com/CA/app/id1192753879?mt=8
Edit: The google play app is at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction&hl=en
After ten minutes of searching, still no luck finding the IOS app.
I really wish they'd give a link to the IOS app. Even in the blog post they just say to search. Out of the dozens of results, what app is the official one?
I use the Fanfiction app on Android to save each fics and get notified of their updates but I mostly read from my phone's browser so I can have multiple fics open at once.
It's down but if you were in the middle of a story you can still access via the official ff.net app: android play store
For apple, I have no idea what you people use.
It's an absolutely beautiful stunning app using a beautiful MD2.0 like design with the option of AMOLED, multiple different reading backgrounds for ease on eyes, fonts you can pick and add in yourself, and millions of genuinely good stories that you can read.
Plus it's all ad-free, all you need is an account which is free to make, there hasn't been a single day I haven't used this app. It's drop dead gorgeous. Naruto x RWBY stories ftw
Wait you mean this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction
Because I am using that too but I have no idea what you are talking about. There was an update recently but it didn't remove any of the features I'm using.
The downloaded story folder definitely still exists on my version. Also what paid version? Since when is there a paid version and what extra features does it have?
I use the official FFN app which saves where you are in the story.
You can check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction&hl=en
You can also get push notifications with new chapters and stuff with it.
I actually really like the official fanfiction.net app. I actually didn't discover the wonders of communities until I started using the app because they're so much more prominently displayed in the app than online.
Linky (Android)
It's a 3rd party app on the android store by Fiction Press. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction
Been using it for years so on all my devices ots basically permanently ingrained to auto open the app when clicking a fanfic link. Can't even read outside the app anymore. I know there's a way to stop it from redirecting but I don't wanna break that link just to link a story once every few months.
Honestly, if you want to use ffn without ads you can use the Smartphone app (i have an Android phone so I don't know if it exists for Apple users).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction
Since I posted this I moved on to the FanFiction.Net
app - no ads, notifies me of updates hours before the email does.
>I only read fanfiction, but I honestly can't figure out ff. I read on ao3 simply because it's really easy to figure out, and I can search for what I want easily. Honestly, until this thread, I didn't even know there was a way to search by character.
You might find it more intuitive using their mobile app (or not, YMMV).
Google Play Store Apple App Store
For me the best feature is the TTS (which might just be an Android feature), but the interface is overall nicer to use as well. The filter icon when browsing stories is a little weird, but it's at the top and you only need to figure it out once.
It is fanfiction.net mate specifically the app here is the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction and here is the link for the story https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13632712/17 have a good read ^w^
My greatest tip is to download the ffn app, as it is much easier to navigate than the website (which is, quite frankly, shit), go to the Harry Potter fandom and sort either by reviewsor favourites
Fanfiction.net has an official app. (I'm linking this as I'm an Adroid user, dunno about iOS)
AO3 doesn't seem to have one but they allow to download the fanfics in several formats. My personal favourite is the mobi format I read through a free app called RedEra (again, Android).
By the "Fanfiction site" I assume you mean Fanfiction.net?
I'll be durned. Apple Store and Android even.
Not sure if you're in android or iPhone (or other, idk) but in the Google play store if you type in fan fiction it should be the 1st result
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction
It's called 'FanFiction.Net'. Google Play
Fanfiction can be read in a browser, directly on the sites that host the fanfiction works. It offers limited functionality and customisation of the text, makes it more difficult to keep track of the reading progress and read works, so it’s not the best choice for reading.
Some of the fanfiction sites have official apps which are good for reading fics, such as the FFN app and the Wattpad app. This is especially convenient for reading WIPs (Works in Progress), because the apps keep track of the reading progress and allow the user to post comments through their account whenever they want.
FFN’s official mobile app (Google Play Store | App Store) offers several very useful reading options, such as downloading the fic for offline reading (the downloading is only for in-app use, not as a separate ebook file), customising the text (font, size, colour, background) and listening to fanfics by using the built-in text-to-speech function, adding fics to different folders (only for in-app use, not in browser).
The features the app offers that are not available in a browser, do not store information on the user’s account, but the device’s memory where the app is downloaded. This means that if a user changes their device and wants to use the app there, they need to use the APP/WiFi share option in the app that lets them transfer all their app data (downloaded fics, saved fics in folders, etc.) from one device to another. Also, if a user downloads a story that is later deleted by the author, the story is still accessible in their app because it has been stored on their device. All this data that is saved on the user’s device, but not accessible by them outside of the app, means it is vulnerable to being deleted, like if an app’s cache or data is cleared, or if a user installs the app on a new device without first transferring the data from the previous device/app using the APP/WiFi share.
It is very convenient to read fanfiction in an ebook reader app on a mobile device or an ebook reader such as a Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Sony Reader, etc., because they allow readers to customise their reading in all kinds of ways. For that you first need to download a fanfiction work, which you can read more about in the Downloading fanfiction section.
For reading on a PC, the Calibre ebook management program has a viewer that can be used for reading similar to an ebook reader app, and has all kinds of options and features. It also has a fanfiction downloading plug-in (FanFicFare) which can be set up to automatically update the files of the fics that have been updated, without losing the user’s reading progress. You can read more about Calibre and FanFicFare in the How to keep track of what you’ve read section.
FFN became a popular fanfiction site from early on in the WWW’s history, and established itself as the most well-known fanfiction site. It is still popular now and is very much used by Dramione writers and readers. Many writers, especially those who’ve been writing for a longer time still post there, and there are some who post there exclusively.
It also has an official mobile app on the Google Play Store and the App Store. In addition to offering the site’s features in an app, it also offers several very useful reading options. You can read more about it in the How to read fanfiction section.
FFN also has a Beta readers section on the site where writers can find beta readers.
No, it's not. But you can download it as an epub or other format using fichub.net - here's a direct link.
Also, FFN has a great app that makes it very easy and enjoyable to read fics without using the site, and also has a text-to-speech option as well - on Google Play Store and the App Store.
I use the ffn app which does not have ads. This one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fictionpress.fanfiction&hl=en_US
An official one. Its pretty good actually. Lot more modern than the website.
I'm using FanFiction.Net. I think it's the official app on android and it can download stories for offline reading too.
I use FanFiction.Net
