I've been using Hi-Q Recorder for years. Works great. Bunch of options for encoding quality and microphone source. Backing up to cloud is optional. No unnecessary permission.
This is a much better alternative. I have been using it (free and later "pro" paid version) for many years on a wide variety of phones.

No adware at all.
If I'm recording with my good mic (Rode NT1A, Scarlett 2i2 interface) I use a Windows 10 laptop and Audacity.
For phone recordings (Android), I use Hi-Q MP3 Recorder. The free version is limited to 10 minute recordings, so I bought the Pro version. It wasn't more than $5, I think. I upload the resulting MP3 to my Google Drive, then download to my Windows 10 laptop and edit with Audacity.
You might be surprised how much better the quality is with a recording app other than the one that's built into your phone.
I cannot decide between Hi-Q MP3 Recorder and Smart Recorder.
(I'll confess I only listened to a minute of your post but) You'd be surprised at the quality you can get from recording apps like Hi-Q MP3 Recorder. No need to use a headset, it picks up very well if the mic in your phone is good. I usually just rest the phone about a foot away from my mouth, though you might have to turn up the gain a bit depending on your setup.
Hope this helps, and welcome again to GWA!
I have a Presonus studio 24c audio interface which has a USB-C slot. I have a USB-C (both way) connector which I use to connect to my Pixel 4a 5G and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. I use Hi-Q (Free) Recorder to record stuff.
Check if the hardware is supported by Android system. Mine works fine either with USB-C or USB type A connector with OTG. Just checked, it works! On connecting to the interface, your tablet must show a notification regarding device sound output. If you see that, your interface is working.
Also check if you are using the correct input lines (1/2) and allowing enough signal from that respective line.
Let me know how you go.
My go to is Hi-Q MP3 Recorder, you can adjust the gain and some quality settings and file type, usually does pretty crystal clear recordings of me singing in the car haha.
I haven't used it much but Dolby On is neat too, it automatically adds EQ adjustments and compression etc to your files as you're recording them. I haven't used it very much though, tbh.
I use Hi-Q MP3 Voice Recorder; I like its auto storage to Dropbox feature, but I'll now give the mentioned Sony Audio recorder a try for the transcription feature.

The Dropbox integration is what convinced me. Makes it super easy to transfer recordings. I also had to let it run for 1+ hour and it worked without a glitch. Solid app.

That's the free version. It's pretty darn good in general terms. The free version has a time limit on each recording, but it's enough to test if you are satisfied with the quality and features. I've used it for a couple of years now and it does an above average quality recording in lecture hall venues with human speech. You can change the settings for quality vs file size though, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what balance works best for you.
It isn't perfect if recording instruments if they're amplified, but it does good with drums and acoustic guitar. Not as good as a professional set up, but that isn't what it's designed for anyway.
It's on the higher end of app prices for the full version, but the cloud sync plus mp3 format make it worth the price for me
Hi-Q MP3 Voice Recorder (Free) is by far the best sound editing app for Android. i'm using this.

Oh I don't actually use an iPhone, I use the HiQ Recorder app on Android. Sorry I can't help!
If you want 8-bit type sounds, Bxfr is simple and free.
I've been using Hi-Q MP3 recorder (also free with limited recording time) to recore on my phone, and Audicity for editing.
My sound effects might be crappy, but I had fun making them.

You can use the widget to record/stop without having to open the app
I used the paid version of Hi-Q when I needed one in college
Something like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiqrecorder.free it seems good but only lets ypu select back or front mic on the phone.
I've been liking Hi-Q Voice Recorder. Automatic backups to Dropbox. Quick and simple widgets.
Hi-Q MP3 Voice Recorder is very good, recording MP3 (up to 320 kbs) and saved on the SD card. The free version has a time limit of records up to 10 minutes per clip, without ads. Try and tell us.
