Software wise I think this is the best option https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music
Hardware.. unless your device is one of the rare ones with a good audio system (like the high end LG phones) it will be the limiting factor right now. Brands like Ifi, Fiio and ibasso make quality DACS in a variety of price points. They connect to usb-c on one side and have a connector to your headphones on the other.
Wired headphones.. if you don't have any I recommend setting a budget before you go shopping. Personally I like the beyerdynamic DT770 pro as a good first "serious"headphone. Likeable sound and very comfortable and at 130 euros quite affordable
Hi I'm having a similar issue and was thinking exactly the same as you :-)
My current workaround involves the Hiby app. If you go into settings, enable "Exclusive HQ USB audio access" and then change volume using the volume buttons on the phone, it will actually control the volume of the DAC. You then have to disable exclusive access again and the increased volume will persist until the headphones are disconnect.
Now this is fine, but would be awesome if we could write a Tasker plugin for it. I haven't looked into how to do this with the Android SKD yet, but it should be possible giving that the Hiby app does it.
I only found one way to unpack mqa on the shield. Using a mqa approved DAC (i use the sonata v), buy the full version of Hibymusic app that unfolds mqa and sideload it to the shield. hibymusic. I used apk extract Then selected the DAC in output source. It works when the purple light show on the DAC when playing tidal trough hiby
I don't know how to do it on Tasker, but the Hiby Music App (available for both Android and iOS) lets you set up two phones for music playing: one as a server (the one that has the music) and the other as a client (controls the server), but I don't know if it works with streaming services other than Tidal, which is the only official app supported from them as far as I know. Locally saved music files should work fine though.
Also found an app called Hibby Music that does what UAPP does but is free of charge and works with Tidal standard. So that allows you to bypass android mixer with a usbc dongle and not pay the higher price of a hifi subscription plan. I think that's actually your best bet. Should be a noticable improvement over the spotify app on android.
Poweramp is my go to as well, but if you want a free alternative, you can go for HiBy Music: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music&hl=en&gl=US A very potent player by a maker of portable hi-fi players.
look for an app called Hiby Music in playstore it sounds much better than other players Ive used. also look for SACD ripped as DSF or DSD; higher fidelity than flac even.

HibyMusic is newer, free, and supposed to be meant for audiophiles. Seems pretty good so far. I haven't used it on my V20 yet, but I have on my DAP since it's comes built-in. So far, I like it.
USB Audio Player Pro is also supposed to be pretty good. I've seen it mentioned a lot in several of these "best audio app" threads/posts I've been checking it out.
I've been using Pi Music Player for the past few years, because I wanted an app that would allow me to play from folders and one that had EQ settings. One of my previous phones didn't have any built-in EQ options, like many other phones come with.
Previous to that, I was using Phonograph Music Player. It was great for it's simplicity, but didn't have any EQ settings, hence why I switch to Pi Music Player later on.
For years previous to finding Phonograph and Pi, I was using PowerAmp Music Player (Full Version). I stopped using it because of the lack of development, and it had become so convoluted. It just become really confusing to use, and more like a chore.
I guess you can use HibyMusic to play DSF files. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music&hl=en_IN&gl=US
I really like Hiby's player. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music
HIBY if you are looking for a free Hi-fi player, Neutron if you want no compromise on sound. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music&hl=en
I really like Hiby Music
I use it on a stand alone player but have used it on the OP3 as well in the past.
