By the way, there is a similar game, free to download on Google Play store, called Influence. It's quite addictive and is now multiplayer.

Presumably the attackers would have their strength depleted proportionally to the defenders' strength. Consider Influence for an example. Based on that concept, the attacking cavalry will have 2pts remaining.
Now, what would be nice also is if there's a rock-paper-scissors element involved. I'm assuming that the different unit types (infantry, cavalry, and artillery) have different movement speeds and attack ranges, i.e. artillery can attack from a few tiles away, and cavalry can move farther each turn? If that's the case, giving the different types a defensive bonus against other types might be helpful. For example, perhaps infantry takes only half damage if they win an encounter against cavalry?
It's not the exact game you're looking for (no animals) but here is a similar game I like called Influence. It's also a turn based Hexagon point battle
What are some good turn based strategy games that don't take long to play? I played influence for a bit, but I soon got annoyed at the chance factor because it felt too unfair. I'd prefer if the graphics are minimalistic, but anything is fine.
You do realize there is already a game similar to this, right? Same name, even.

You can check out Influence and Antiyoy to scratch that conquering itch, or some builder based games like Home Quest. Of course, the classic Tower Defence games like Kingdom Rush are a good way to waste some time as well.
You can always check the recommended and similar to see if other apps tickle you fancy.
I've been wondering where the kick-ass molecule game is! It's awesome your working on this.
Because I'd be super interested in playing whatever you come up with, here are two games that might help. Both use influence mechanics. I was thinking influence mechanics because of the valences atoms, and the way interaction of electrons dictate transformation.
This first one isn't original in the sense that it's a puzzle mechanic now extended into a Risk-like, fully abstract game: This is my favorite version on mobile: Influence puzzle
This second game is astonishing original, with a slightly higher learning curve, but much deeper, with significantly greater strategic dimensions than pretty much any game but Chess, at least that I've come across: Mbrane. It also involves +/- polarity, which can flip, so very much in the spirit of what you're working on. I think then even named it for M Theory, with the idea it can be an analog for elementary particles.
I thought you'd be interested because both games have qualities of cellular automata, and I'd think that concept would be useful for a molecule game. Also don't forget Foldit!
Influence - a fun, minimal strategy game with Risk-based gameplay.
Influence is a node-based strategy game boiled down to its bare essentials. Small games take less than 2 minutes and there's not much meta game to worry about.
Missiles is a simple missile-escape game, good for 30 second bursts of "oooo that was a close one!".
Does Not Commute is a surreal time-bending driving puzzle with a good sense of humour. Each 'run' takes about 20 seconds, but they come together into levels that take 5-10 minutes to complete. The only IAP is to unlock the full game including checkpoints.
Tofu Drifter is a super chill simple driving game with unlockable upgrades.
What would you think about this kind of strategy game ?

There's a ton of games like that. Check out this one and see the suggested ones on the past store.

This one is strategy, free, contains ads and has online gameplay
The IN game you see on my screenshot is called Influence. Which is pretty nice as well.

It's just so pure. It's coloured numbers on a hexagonal board. It's the very distillation of turn-based strategy.
eu gosto do influence, é um jogo de estratégia minimalista
