I’m always shy to recommend this, but try nintype. On the play store its still in alpha. Link
It has a huge learning curve but once you get used to it, and you type more, it develops its dictionary.
It is hands down the MOST customizable keyboard out there. Only thing it lacks is a selection gesture.
Trust me I've tried every other Keyboards, And, Flesky by far is the best out there currently. Although Keyboard 69 (Unreleased) comes really close, it's not quite not there yet.
Keyboard 69 (apparently known as “nintype” in IOS.)
I installed it because I’m on an edge phone and configurable kb width is an advantage there, but I was pretty surprised by the amount of features it packs for a free/no-ads/no-permissions app. Seriously recommend taking a look.
I also use “hacker’s keyboard” from f-droid if I need control chars and whatnot.
You can try looking at Keyboard 69
I think its similar to what you are looking for
People keep forgetting Keyboard 69 (formerly named nintype) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
Not sure why since it’s the best keyboard around :)
Keyboard 69 (formerly nintype) is pretty nice. A bit of a learning curve. It allows you to swipe to type with two hands at once.
Once you get used to it it is faster than any other keyboard I've ever used.
Keyboard 69 is probably the best at two-handed swiping that I've tried.
I believe Multiling O Keyboard has this option as well, but I haven't used that feature.
The lightning launcher of keyboards: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
It's a mess. It will take you weeks to master it, and I don't know if it's worth it. I gave up after a while, some years ago, and haven't touched it since. But since you asked for a customisable keyboard...
I’ve been using Keyboard 69 (nintype keyboard) for a while now.
Extremely customizable and hasn’t requested any permissions. Probably not gonna get any updates though (although it still works up to pie )
Nintype has this feature, even the force click, but your phone has to support it. Kinda ironic because it's an iOS keyboard ported to Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
Besides Keymonk, I'm only aware of the Android version of NinType, which is named Keyboard 69: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine&hl=en_US
Still in alpha right now, but very usable. Currently my main keyboard.
To be honest, feature-wise, it appears to already offer more than keymonk.
Two thumbs slide keyboard anyone? Fully customizable long-press actions and cursor control by sliding on the spacebar. Since it looks like the linkme-bot isn't gonna link it, here's where to get Keyboard 69 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
Handsdown I still think nintype (from /u/underthesun) is the best gesture keyboard since it lets you gesture with two fingers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6DS9Gyf2LM
They beta for android (called keyboard 69 for now):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
Supports themes and a lot of customization. I wish more gesture keyboards supported multi finger swiping, I think the old google keyboard did?
I used it for a while and, in fact, I still have it installed so I can keep track of updates because i like the ideas it's implemented. But I agree that it's laggy and it doesn't seem to recognize my swipes very well. I've mostly switched over to nintype, aka Keyboard 69 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
I tried this one out for a while, liked it but ended up being too much for me and switched back to my comfy-old swiftkey.
You might give it a try though! So many settings and customization options: Keyboard 69 (Weird name though)
Nintype is different from all the other keyboards in that you can use both thumbs to swipe at the same time.
So if you’re writing the word “calculator,” for example, you can start by:
It sounds pretty complicated, but once you get the hang of it, typing becomes really fast. It’s great if you’re looking for something different.
If not, as the other comments say, GBoard, Flesky, and SwiftKey are all great.
Keyboard 69 - unreleased android version of IOS’ nintype - has swiping (normal or advanced) and lets you move the cursor around by scrubbing the spacebar. I’ve found it quick and accurate to move the cursor like this. Plus a whole truckload of additional features that I’m sure I’ll dive into one day...
Been using Keyboard 69 (Nintype) for some time now. Probably on par with multitiling as far as customization goes. Has an awesome two-handed swype feature too. Only thing that sucks is the emojis.
I posted link to Playstore, it’s in beta but seems to work flawlessly , and has just a few languages supported, but insane ammount of features and options.

It’s a fun concept , with a number of themes and tweaks.
I use Nintype (listed in playstore as Keyboard 69)! It's the far superior swiping keyboard, absolutely destroys Swype/Swiftkey/etc in speed and functionality. You can type with any combination of swipes and taps with two fingers at once—which is crazy fast once you get used to it. I hate having to use regular phone keyboards now because they feel pathetically slow and clunky.
Don't worry.It's not a dumb question. Use Gboard. It's a good option.
There is only one answer for 1,2,3,4 questions - "Depends on the app" Don't try those extra permission asking , shady apps with ads , mostly chinese apps like cm keyboard , du keyboard etc. Stick with reputed keyboards.
I don't use sync feature on any keyboard. Even big companies like SwiftKey had some problem , Google sync is better option but, If you have privacy concerns. Don't use sync options.
Some good options :
Swiftkey (they also had some privacy problem about a year ago , Related to sync feature)
Chrooma keyboard
You can also try keyboard 69 - You will get comfortable after using it for some days. It doesn't asks unnecessary permissions. No ads & doesn't access internet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
check out nintype ( now keyboard 69). Two handed glide style keyboard. Incredible once you get the hang of it. Warning it has a very steep learning curve but worth it to invest some time to get good at it.
Nintype Keyboard.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
This keyboard has definately supercharged swype features and then your plain old tapping in a seperate mode so you dont have false swipes and press . Its currently in beta on android but very useable and the dev is lovely. Its an extremely customizeable keyboard that has hundreds of awesome features. And you can make it look sooooo dam cool. And you can change the colour of the swipe line :)
I just got a new phone and went to install the best keyboard ever made. Looks like its gone from the Play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
I know APKs are still out there. But I think this might be a sign: Its time to move on. Anyone ever find an alternative "swipe" keyboard that's accurate AND respects your privacy? I'm pecking on FlorisBoard now like a filthy peasant right now (their "glide" typing sucks).
Nintype aka Keyboard 69.
It's old and basically abandoned by the developer but I still use it exclusively - Still the only keyboard to date that can handle any combination of swipes and taps, 2 fingers at once. Once you get used to it it's ridiculously faster than anything else I've used — it feels like a more successful implementation of what Swype was trying to be.
Keyboard 69 formerly Nintype has been my go to for a long time. It's got a bit of a learning curve, but after getting used to it; it is hands down the fastest way to type.
I hadn't heard of this until now: I just tried it out (it's still available, for free as Keyboard 69), and I think this article nails it in describing the first experience as like playing a bullet-hell game.
I stuck with it for about two hours and managed to get to around 50WPM, but on a smaller screen the benefits of two handed swiping don't seem that significant. I can imagine that on a tablet or larger screen you'd save a lot of time, but with a ~Galaxy Nexus (4.7") sized screen, two fingers gets kind of cramped. Even though I felt like I was typing faster, when doing an objective test I wasn't faster than what I got on Swype (~55 wpm), and the accuracy suffered a bit (why does Nintype suggest things that are obscure/infrequently used words?).
NinType (https://youtu.be/M6DS9Gyf2LM)
Once you get used to typing with both hands we the same time, you will never want to go back to typing with just one finger at a time. It’s like going back to pecking with a single finger after you’ve learned the finger placements or qwerty keyboards.
Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
Keyboard 69 lets you type using both thumbs simultaneously. I can never go back to using a keyboard like Gboard or Fleksy or any of the other popular keyboards now because typing with only one thumb at a time feels so unintuitive
I’ve been using Keyboard 69 for a good while now, and not noticed any problems with lag.. but then I’m not the fastest typer. It is pretty featureful including adjusting k/b width - handy on the s7 edge!
Hot take: fuck Gboard and Swiftkey. Y'all should try Nintype.
It uses two-handed swiping, you build words with any combination of swipes and taps. Once you get used to it, it's about a billion times faster than everything else (thanks to the input method and a bunch of other clever scrolling/text editing tools they built in). Even Swiftkey, which everybody here seems to be so in love with, can only swipe with one finger at a time, which feels incredibly clunky and slow after getting used to the efficiency of Nintype.
> You'd have to be doing something really mind-blowing to get me to pay money
Nintype. Two-finger continuous swiping, slide to delete/scroll, and insanely customizable. Now that's a mind-blowing keyboard that I happily paid for back when I was on iOS. The best part is, because it's not officially released on Android it's currently free!
I'm a HUGE nintype fan, now, too. Was a happy Swype user for many years but was constantly looking for a keyboard that would let me set my own shortcuts. Finally landed on nintype (now called Keyboard 69 in the app store) and really got hooked on the two-handed swiping.

>Kind of like Fleksy except with that you have to look at the suggestion strip to see the next word if I'm not mistaken?
Seems like you describe next word predictions, which seems to be more like Minuum (though Fleksy has an extension for it).
>I've never used the Nintype
It's available here and on r/nintype. It's point is kind of niche and takes time to learn, but yeah, it has lots of settings, maybe even too many.
>Also what other types of customizations would you like to see other than for themes?
I like flexibility and minimalism. Things like keyboard height setting, floating keyboard, split keyboard, invisible keyboard (completely like Fleksy or at least replacing letters with blank space or dots), definitely removable spacebar row if gestures are present. These might not go with the Google keyboard mindset though, so decide yourself what are you willing to add.
Keyboard 69, which is nintype for android. Very fast typing with two finger swipe and lots of customizability
Nintype : A keyboard that supports two finger swiping, swipe left on backspace key to delete words, swiping on spacebar to move the cursor, one handed mode and a ton of themes and customization. It has a little steep learning curve, but imo its worth it.
Oandbackup : An open source alternative to Titanium Backup that looks much better too.
LMT Launcher : An app that enables pie controls and lets you access lots of shortcuts, apps and commands from any screen.
Keyboard69 (nintype) - The best keyboard around :)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
just keep in mind it doesn't look that good, has some emoji issues and the settings are horribly convoluted https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
there's Keyboard 69, but it hasn't been updated in a year and its settings section is... something else.
Keyboard 69 aka Nintype? I personally don't use it but I here it mentioned quite often.
Keyboard 69 (aka nintype)

No contest... Every other keyboard feels weak and one dimensional in comparison

nintype. two finger Swype style keyboard. amazingly fast. amazingly customizable.
Give nintype a try. Pretty amazing two handed glide style keyboard. One you get used to it you wont try anything else.

Try Nintype (called keyboard69 on the app/play store for some reason) with glyphless master mode enabled
I’ve been liking nintype keyboard
There's only one truly customizable keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine
I use Nintype aka Keyboard 69. It uses two finger swiping which works really well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jormy.sixtynine&hl=en
>I use Swype.
Keyboard69 - Swype on steroids.
