I picked up a lot of people driving for lyft. It took me about 10 minutes on average to get to the people and pick them up. For best results, Know the best drop off points, just in case the driver doesn't (there are plenty of drivers coming from Houston and SA to try to gold rush the event, the jerks).
It wasn't hard at all to drop off. you shouldn't have any issues.
After the show, if you try right at 9:45 to 10 PM, it could take 10 to 20 minutes for a driver to pick you up, but it will depend on your location ( Barton Springs at Baby A's will take forever for them to get there).
A few tips I can give:
don't request in the park - Drivers cannot get closer than Austin High on the northside, Robert E Lee Dr. on the East side, or Mopac and Rollingwood on the West side. request when you are outside. Ideally, request when you are off Barton Springs.
There is an official dropoff at Austin High School, right next to the Mopac Pedestrian bridge. it will be BUSY there, and it will take forever to get out once you are picked up. If you go this route, walk west past the Mopac Bridge a few hundred yards or so. It will be infinitely easier for a driver to pick you up.
You may have more luck by taking a shuttle to Republic Square, and getting a Uber/Lyft from DT if you don't want to walk 5-6 blocks.
typically, if you can walk a few blocks to the Jack in the Box (ideally further South or East than it), you will be picked up much faster and probably pay much less. Traffic gets pretty jammed up on BS and Lamar. The further you are from there the faster it will happen.
Walking up Robert E Lee and into the Barton Hills neighborhood is another good locations, however, keep in mind that Cops will ticket drivers who try to drop off or pick up ON Robert E Lee itself, so be sure you are one of the side streets.
-Finally, don't do the following:
Don't request both an Uber and a Lyft and see which one gets there first an cancel the 2nd. That is a dick move.
Try not to cancel your ride before the driver gets there. Feel Free to call or text them first. There is nothing more infuriating than getting less than a minute away and getting a cancel.
EDIT: Also, as far as pricing. It was reasonable this year. Only during 9:45-10:15 were there perpetual Surges. They weren't bad (200%) the largest fare I had was taking a group from BS to Rollingwood, and it was about $30.
Double EDIT: (Shameless self promotion) If you haven't used Lyft before, give it a try - $20 in ride credits.
