I've used Smart AudioBook Player ever since MortPlayer broke on Lollipop.
They both support the M4B format, too. Minimal possibility of books just showing up on shuffle if you forget the .nomedia file.
I've been using MortPlayer Audio Books for years, but I'm always looking for better apps. How do Material Audiobook Player and Listen Audiobook Player compare?
I don't do Audible as there is no way to convert to or from it. I just use MP3 and a very good Android app - Mort Audio:

I briefly looked at the app and it appears proprietary. For humble bundle audio books, and any mp3 audio book that I use, I use the app MortPlayer Audio Books. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stohelit.audiobookplayer&hl=en
Was desperate for one myself recently, and came across mortplayer which does exactly those things.
Might not be the prettiest though.
Pro tip, if your on android setup your Google assistant and ensure your wakeup phrase is setup.
With 'ok Google pause' Or 'Ok Google play' you can start or stop playing. I have an audiobook player recommendation too it's simple and pretty effective
When I used Android I used the Mortplayer Audiobook free app which remembers your last position: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stohelit.audiobookplayer&hl=en_GB
On iOS I use the iBook and Audible apps which also remember your last position.
I've been using it on my N5 for Big Finish radio plays for over a year now. Previously I was using MortPlayer Audio Books, but it broke when 5.0 hit.
Either one should work fine now, though. MortPlayer updated about a month later, I just liked Smart better.
MortPlayer Audiobooks is the best I've used on Android although it is rather ugly it is super powerful.

You will probably be better off using a podcatcher like GPodder or maybe a music player that has bookmarking like Amarok. I think Banshee can do it as well.
My favorite app for listening to audio-books is MortPlayer Audio Books
it should be in all audiobook players, for example — MortPlayer Audio Books
Kalau saya biasanya pakai Mortplayer , tapi review untuk Android baru katanya jelek sekarang.
Try Mortplayer Audio. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stohelit.audiobookplayer
There are several other apps dedicated to audiobooks as well.
I personally really like MortPlayer Audio Books
Oops - wrong link for Mortplayer.
