OP here, I'm an avid listener of audiobooks but I still enjoy browsing book stores to find new releases. What I found myself doing was taking pictures of books that looked interesting and when I got home manually checking each one to see if there was an audiobook version.
My profession is software engineering so I knew there must be a more efficient way to do this. I've created the app you see in the video above, 'Scan to Listen', which allows you to scan the barcode of a physical book and takes you to the equivalent audiobook on Audible if it exists. You then have a historical record of all the books you've scanned.
I thought that you guys might find it useful as well, the first version has just been released to the Play Store for Android. There may still be a few bugs so just let me know if you have any problems. Any feedback would be much appreciated

I spoke too soon! There are lists: https://www.audible.com/ep/Nebula https://www.audible.com/ep/hugo
No idea why the audible site search doesn't bring those to my attention, but anyway, that's what I wanted.
<em>Cujo</em> by Stephen King falls squarely in the "HOLY SHIT!" category for me, mostly because I did not see it playing out the way it did. Troubled me for a long time.
On the more contemplative side is Cormac McCarthy's <em>Blood Meridian</em>. The ending is both strange, unclear, and haunting. Taken together with the rest of the book there's just so much to dwell on its staggering. Definitely one of my favorite books.
Jurassic Park it is on sale for $5 definitely worth picking up. Other then that I can't really tell as I can't see the prices for the books I own.
Some books, like Atomic Accidents , provide PDFs for download. It’s not in nearly enough books, but you’ll see it mentioned on the book page when it is.
Spoke to customer support, they provided a direct link to the free/sale item: https://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/I-Am-Legend-Audiobook/B002V1CB2Q/
Still would be nice to see the tidbits and car video they post.
I saw Andy Weir speak in Fort Collins, Colorado Saturday night, and even he agrees. Artemis isn't as good as The Martian. He acknowledged that The Martian is a once-in-a-lifetime success. But by and large, readers enjoyed Artemis. They had a good time with the story, and that's good enough for him. (I'm paraphrasing from memory, but that's the gist of what he said about it.)
He's a fantastic speaker with a great stage presence and his story is very inspirational. If he's ever speaking in your area, be sure to check him out.

After deleting my Facebook profile, this does hurt a bit. Hopefully the next ones wont need social media to participate...
But anyway, on the spirit of the promotion.
My very first audible book was The Martian (all thanks to this weird guy from the youtube)
I wouldn't trust any company to "manage" my books. Make MP3 backup copies and screw audible and their DRM.
Circe by Madeline Miller
"It is marriage," she said to him, "or nothing. And if it is marriage, be sure: you may have what girls you like in the field, but you will bring none home, for only I will hold sway in your halls."

So this publisher offers LibriVox titles. I have listened to a number of titles from LibriVox and it is worth mentioning a few things:
There are apps that one can use directly with their content much like Audible. LibiVox does not produce these apps, so there are ads with the customary fee to disable. Barring that, you can use a MP3 player app directly with files you download from the LibriVox site. You could of course buy these items on the Audible store. They are convenient I suppose. Just know that the LibriVox project doesn't, as far as I know, benefit from that purchase.
LibriVox is a non-profit and doing very good work in their own right. Bringing classics to the masses is no cheap matter, even if they don't have to pay the volunteer talent. Please consider donating to them here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/librivox-audio-books/id596159212?mt=8

Enjoy!
I definitely recommend picking up Sherlock Holmes narrated by Stephen Fry!!!
You can also get Homeland if you want to start a 30 books series.
He also wrote Just Do It, which I enjoyed. (good, not great)
https://www.audible.com/pd/Just-Do-It-Audiobook/B06Y18JKF1
It was also free. I guess owning running audible helps you get your own work it to people.
A Man Called Ove ^narrated by George Newbern. A darkly humorous book about a Scandinavian curmudgeon and the people who annoy him.
Nevermind found it:
That and other Audible requests (like any ideas you have to help fix their site) can be found here
My Lost Family is by Danny Ben-Moshe, who charges that any criticism of Israeli state policies is anti-semitic.
Fyi.
ETA Mr. Ben-Moshe is an editor of this book, which espoused the idea mentioned. Also, Mr. Ben-Moshe's more extreme writings in the Jerusalem Post have disappeared from search results.
As for why getting a free (to us) book should matter, others have helpfully answered the question.
I am Legend . Not to be confused with the terrible movie version that has little to do with the book
I echo the recommendation for The <strong>First Law</strong> trilogy. I just started book three.
Say one thing for Steven Pacey, say he knows how to narrate a fucking audiobook!

If you like Sherlock Holmes, here is over 2 and a half days worth for a single credit. Pretty hard to beat that :)
I also had problems listening during commutes and a pair of noise cancelling headphones solved that perfectly. Maybe the wont work together with hearing aids but you could maybe try a pair at a store and see if they do.
These are the ones I use: https://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Wireless-Headphones-Cancelling/dp/B0756CYWWD

The cups are quite big so maybe you can keep your hearing aid inside them?
Sales usually start on Sundays or Thursdays, you probably caught this one early. (thy might be still adding the titles)
from my wishlist Provenance is also on sale
Having gone through similar feelings and really down times in my life, I know there's not one magic solution. But simple outlets and finding joy in the everyday can sometimes mean the world. One book that surprisingly helped my mood and outlook was Goodbye, Things This isn't a self-help book per se, but it does touch on a lot of points of life that were contributing to my depression (comparing yourself to others, etc.).
If you're into podcasts, checkout The Hilarious World of Depression. There are some great episodes in that show.
And like u/TheLostEconomist said, look into practicing and learning about mindfulness. With anxiety it can help, but at the same time can be difficult to get started. And of course visiting a health professional is a must. It might take a few tries to find a Dr or therapist you feel comfortable with, but it will be worth it in the long run.
And finally, if and when you feel up to it, check out r/personalfinace There are some great people, tips and strategies there. The sidebar has a money flow chart that helps visualize where you should start and focus when rebuilding. There are other resources there for paying off debt, etc. too. But money doesn't make you, you.
I'm going to check out some of the books mentioned here too. Maps of Meaning looks interesting.
Wishing you the best.
I'm not a Prime member, and I was able to get this deal.

Reminder (partly to myself) - When purchasing from a 2-for-1 sale, if there's a book you're on the fence about, make sure it's the first book you select. The second book should always be one you're more confident you'll like. The first book is the one you can return for a credit.

Edit: I picked up Kill Creek (thanks u/--Brad) and Bobiverse Book 3 (thanks u/aussiekinga) (still need 2). I'm thinking about grabbing Sapiens and Senlin Ascends, but I'm on a library waitlist for those and might wait to get them that way.

The Black Ocean Mobius book is 85 hours long. It's an omnibus. Interesting, and easy to stop and start at your leisure.
NOT EXACTLY what you're looking for but We Are Legion (We Are Bob) is similar to what you're asking.
it's basically a human mind being put into a probe and he's basically alone (ish).
More or less, probably a bit less.
As an author, I think it's fantastic that Audible lets you return audiobooks easily. There are so many books out there and it's tough to get noticed. Audible's return policy lets you take a chance on a new author without any real risk. I would much rather a reader return my book after a few chapters if it wasn't to their taste than feel like they have to finish it.
As for returning a book to repurchase it with the whispersync discount? That puts a little less money in the author's pocket, but it also nudges the sales ranking for both the ebook and the audiobook, instead of just the audiobook, so there's some benefit. At the end of the day, most authors will be happy you are reading their book.
If you like the book and you feel guilty for buying it cheap, tell other people about it. Post a review at Audible, Amazon, Reddit, and/or Goodreads. The author will appreciate it, I promise.

West Cork was captivating for me, anyway!
FYI, because Amazon was playing games with me. The Kindle edition you want is (this one)[https://www.amazon.com/Phantom-Opera-Gaston-Leroux-ebook/dp/B0084AXZRI/]. There are a number of Kindle editions at varying prices, and this one was a bit buried for me.
Apologize if this is not exactly what you’re looking for, but I just finished it - truly enjoyable. Bad Blood is a story about how a Silicon Valley startup cheated its investors and a bit more. Give the sample a try to see if it’s your thing!
Here are the audiobooks I've listened to with my daughter who's in that age range
I didn't care for these, but she did:
I did once for Jim Butcher's series, The Dresden Files Ghost Story, Book 13.
They used a different narrator which I just couldn't adjust to--James Marsters IS Harry Dresden as far as I'm concerned!
Audible did do the unexpected and re-recorded with Marsters. So kudos to them.
You can access your complete Audible library at any time, regardless of your membership status.
When you purchase a title from Audible, it is yours for all time, and will remain in your library online for you to access any time you need to. There is no limit to the number of times you can download the titles in your library and your library page will not expire or disappear, even if you cancel your Audible membership.
You may also continue to use your account to purchase new titles from Audible.com without a membership, however keep in mind that they would be at the retail price.
To access your library online:
Log in at https://www.audible.com/sign-in with your account credentials.
Click the "Library" button from the options at the top of the page.
If any titles appear to be missing from your library, check to make sure you are in the correct account and are using your correct credentials, and review the filter settings selected on the Library page. ^WW
FYI, this isn't the same as the Chase Visa Signature. This is issued by Synchrony, and it only offers cash back on Amazon purchases. This is the link: https://www.amazon.com/iss/credit/storecardmember
My 9-5 deals with credit cards, and I'd advise against the Synchrony, even if it gives cash back at Audible. This one is way better imo: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Prime-Rewards-Visa-Signature/dp/BT00LN946S
Not sure if there are lists. But if you follow this subreddit I'm sure you'll find some. The ones I've seen recently:
ACRIME1 - Born a Crime by Trevor Noah
TIDYUP1 - The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo
Does anybody know anything about Galaxy Outlaws? 85 hours for $5, sounds like a good deal. Has decent reviews it seems like it.
The Road is 6hrs long so kinda short but at $3 a decent value.
Cormac McCarthy is a seriously great author and this is just one of his books.
How about <strong>The Art of Racing in the Rain</strong> (7 hours) by Garth Stein, narrated by Christopher Evan Welch? It's a family drama that covers parenting, career, illness, loss, a bit of race car driving and a legal tangle. There are lots of "feels" but ultimately I found it to be heartwarming. The only downside (for this particular recommendation) is that it's really more about the dad than the mom.
Oh, and it's all told from the dog's point of view.

I'm just going to hijack this post slightly to remind people that book 8 - Tiamat's Wrath - is available for preorder now
I'm pretty underwhelmed by this sale. Might pick up one or two books since I have that five dollar credit.
Also, just a reminder there is the kids book sale that has been going on for a while. It ends on the 27th.
Still not a fan of the facebook tie-in, but oh well...moving on!
In the spirit of the "event", my most important book was also one of my first book: Stormbreaker
The first book that ceased to be a chore from school and or something i must do or learn; The first book to be a part of my life, not only as means of entertainment and worlds to explore... but things to wonder and learn from. (just adding a game of thrones for the heck of it: "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies,” said Jojen. “The man who never reads lives only one")
Make sure you start the free trial through Amazon (not through Audible site directly) - this will give you 2 credits for your free trial instead of 1.

I know of nothing without breaking the DRM on the books and reading them as MP3s or M4Bs. Then I recommend Smart Audiobook Player
Unfortunatley I don't think me advising you or anyone else on how to break DRM would be welcome in this semi-official subreddit. Suffice it to say if you google around you can find out.
If you are truly open to anything - The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. 126 and a half hours of hardcore history for only one credit.
Oz. The Complete Collection is 0.94 cents. I have not listened to it yet, so I can not speak on the narration.
Hard to choose a favorite but right now it's Hell Divers.
It's R.C. Bray narrating, so that's a big plus!
I agree. Pines is one of my favorite books to recommend to fans of Stephen King who are looking for something else. Crouch has talked about how the books were inspired by Twin Peaks. I also find echoes of The Fugitive (TV show) and The Twilight Zone. It's fast-paced, scary, and introduces some wild and crazy sci-fi elements as it goes.
Definitely recommended!
The TV show crammed all three books into one season, which was a mistake, and then fell on its face when it tried to come up with something for season two.

https://www.audible.com/ep/DD-Resale Was the sale they ran that was a collection of a bunch of previous daily deals. You can get a better idea there, but it really varies.
The ones on that page are some of the more popular I think so they aren't always that level.
Have you listened to Paradox Bound yet? It's Peter Clines narrated by Ray Porter. :)
Pretty good book.
Have you tried Dexter? I wouldn’t say it’s as dark as Hannibal, but enjoyable for the most part. The book series is pretty good. I never finished the show. I got halfway through the final season and just lost interest.
Wow this is seriously amazing, thanks so much! Here's the link to the 2 for 1 sale if anyone else needs it. Because for me, it's still not showing up on the main page, and I still didn't get an email about it. So I don't know wtf is up with that.
I've never done the whispersync thing before, can anybody tell me how you can know which narrator version you're getting? Like for David Copperfield, I really only want it if it's the Richard Armitage version.
I’m assuming you have Mountain Man Series written by Keith C Blackmore and read by RC Bray. I’ll mention it just in case.
I don't want to sound rude (but i also want to deter some of flak posts like this cause)
This is probably the last place you should be adversing, most of the users here are not applicable for that deal, and some even feel cheated by those when they discover the one on amazon with 2 credits instead.
Are you subscribed to this Audicted program? From its description, it says: > When you add Audicted to your library you will receive all episodes, each with a runtime of approximately 30 minutes, and will continue to receive new episodes as they are released.
I think you can unsubscribe from the app by opening the series up in your library, pressing the 3-dot menu in the upper-right corner, and clicking "Pause Updates" or something like that. It should prevent new episodes appearing in your library going forward.
The Expanse (first book Leviathan Wakes) by James S.A. Corey, with Jefferson May bringing class A narration. It's a long series, with the depth of Game of Thrones but set about 200 years in the future from now. After your done with the audiobooks the series is on Netflix and will be on Amazon (?).
Persepolis Rising is really freaking cool. And Nemesis Games
Two books form The Expanse series in one sale? Crazy! Goodbye money.
Ignore audible_com's advice. It's impossible to find the pricing I mentioned without going to amazon. The following advice is for the US site, non-mobile, while logged into your account on audible.com:
Follow along on this product's page: https://www.audible.com/pd/B017V1TPFQ
To the right of the photo, just below the rating it says "Whispersync for Voice-ready Get this Audiobook for the reduced price of $1.99, when you buy the Kindle edition first."
The "Whispersync for Voice-ready" link goes to an explanation of what Whispersync is -- it's when you own the Kindle book and can buy an audible upgrade. This is cash only, not credits, and it doesn't work in reverse. That is: if you already own the audible book, there is no discount for buying the kindle book.
The "reduced price" is how much it costs to upgrade to get the audible version after you own the kindle version. It does not tell you the price of the kindle version -- this is why you have to check the amazon page.
That 2nd link that says "Kindle edition" goes to the product's kindle page on amazon. In the upper right of the amazon page is the price. Here you'll see the price for Kindle and the price for the audible upgrade. In this case the kindle version is $0 and the audio upgrade is $2.
It's somewhat common to find inexpensive kindle books with cheap whispersync/audio upgrades. In this rare case it's super cheap.
It might be a halloween sale, King's The Talisman is also on sale
Edit: same for Danse Macabre
Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer was a pretty good read. Might be up your alley.
It depends on your genre preferences. Bill Bryson, Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams are all good and some of my favorite authors, but I also recommend How to Survive a Horror Movie. It's not very long at all--3 hours or so--but the narrator is great and made my coworkers look at me weirdly because I was giggling to myself.
In fact, I'm going to listen to it again myself. I hope you find something that cures your blues or at least takes your mind off it for just a little while.
This is the version released in 2013 - https://www.audible.com/pd/B00EO5MBWC - run time 18 hrs and 26 mins.
This is the version released today - https://www.audible.com/pd/1549142194- run time 19 hrs and 42 mins.
Both are narrated by Jefferson Mays. From the book's description, it is not clear what's extra in this new edition..!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m going to say The Martian, because R.C. Bray really brings it to life. One of my favorites narrators and books. He brings out the sarcastic aspect of Mark in perfect fashion.
Annnd I always like to recommend the author Drew Hayes, so these two are worth checking out (sorry, I know this just makes your choices even harder):
The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant. The narrator, Kirby Heyborne, really makes this title for me. Kirby brings Fred to un-life as it were.
Super Powereds: Year 1 is a book with a cover that doesn’t do it justice and a title that doesn’t make sense initially. It started off as a web serial, so you get a lot of hours for low credit ratio. I think the whole series is over 160 hours for 5 credits, and not once during any of those hours did I feel bored. Drew’s pacing keeps this series from ever feeling slow or boring. I’ll miss theses characters, because he’s done with the main series, but the world he’s created here feels very much like a comic book.
Listened to and loved most of those. I'm certain you'll enjoy Children of Time written by Adrian Tchaikovsky and narrated by Mel Hudson. Excellent story, superb narration! Listened to it twice in the last 6 months or so and it was just as enjoyable the second time.
<em>The Things They Carried</em> by Tim O'Brien, narrated by Bryan Cranston.
<em>The Last Kingdom</em> by Bernard Cornwell, narrated by Jonathan Keeble.
Check out The <strong>Wayward Pines</strong> Trilogy by Blake Crouch. It looks like you can add the audiobooks for $1.99 each after you own the Kindle versions. They're great - a fun mix of The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, and Twin Peaks, with a bit of Stephen King flavor.

Thanks for the heads up! I keep hearing that, so one day I’ll get to scythe. Yeah, I’m not really sure what the point of this sale is either? Maybe more for people to gift books instead of buying credits? I also picked up some books that never go on sale (mr penumbra’s 24 hour bookstore $9 so far) and there’s always the under $10 section https://www.audible.com/ep/BestUnder10. Good luck and thanks again!
The Fourth Monkey (but note that it's part of an unfinished series and if I could go back and do it again I would wait for it to be finished)
FantasticLand (not exactly a thriller in the traditional sense, but messed with my mind a bunch)
I’d like to offer HEX for your consideration.
Publisher summary:
The English-language debut of the best-selling Dutch novel, Hex, from Thomas Olde Heuvelt - a Hugo and World Fantasy Award-nominated talent to watch Whoever is born here is doomed to stay 'til death. Whoever settles never leaves. Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a 17th-century woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. Muzzled, she walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children's beds for nights on end. Everybody knows that her eyes may never be opened, or the consequences will be too terrible to bear. The elders of Black Spring have virtually quarantined the town by using high-tech surveillance to prevent their curse from spreading. Frustrated with being kept in lockdown, the town's teenagers decide to break their strict regulations and go viral with the haunting. But, in so doing, they send the town spiraling into dark, medieval practices of the distant past. This chilling audiobook heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice in mainstream horror and dark fantasy.
I didn’t finish it, but it should be creepy enough for you. The book is okay, but it just got too sadistic for me towards the end.
Have you read/listened to the NPCs series by Drew Hayes also known as "Spells, Swords, & Stealth" series. There is less stat sheets, experience points, etc. and more narrative. But it still classify as a LitRPG book.
Basic premises of the books are, a group of NPCs in a Pen and Paper campaign start to become "aware" of certain things with their world. It's a pretty good story. The second book "Split the Party" I didn't think was that great, but it picked up with "Going Rogue" and now I can't wait for the 4th book.
Highly recommend The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero & Tom Bissell. Hilarious recounting of the making of “The Room” and Greg’s friendship with the unusual Tommy Wiseau.
It was nominated for audiobook of the year. Greg is an outstanding narrator & nails Tommy’s inscrutable accent along with others.
Definitely an enjoyable pick-me-up!
One of my favorites was Dead Men Can't Complain By Peter Clines. From the summary:
> A cop interrogates a perp in a lizard costume that seems all too real. > > An all-powerful superhero protects his city - and they better like it. > > An average Joe finds out that being undead isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
> Including three never-before-published stories, Dead Men Can't Complain is the first-ever collection of short fiction by Peter Clines, author of 14, The Fold, and other Audible smash hits. Combining equal parts geekery and humor with the occasional dash of horror, Dead Men Can't Complain is ideal for Clines fans eagerly awaiting his next novel - or for brand-new listeners discovering this Audible favorite for the first time. >
I found all of the stories being fun. I think there are about 10 or so stories in the collection. The listening time is right under 5 hours. One of my better purchases. I am not sure if it is the type of science fiction you are looking for but it is a mix of science fiction, humor, and horror.
I really like B.V. Larson's Undying Mercenaries books.
I think it has a bit of fun/young adult vibe with the scifi, similar to ready player one, armada, and the harry potter series.
Listen to a sample or read the summary, I bet you'll like it!
You can browse them here.
To find them yourself on the website you can go to Browse > More Lists & Collections (bottom third row) > Audible Originals.
I noticed that Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" is on sale. McCarthy is one of the greatest living American authors, with a pretty unique writing style. Add that to a great western genre tale and elements of horror, and you have a book you should love.
It's one of those books you can read twice, and get more out of it.
If you don't mind a sort of urban fantasy as opposed to high fantasy, I really liked the Grimnoire Chronicles. There are 3 books in the series, plus several novellas/short stories. The first book is Hard Magic. I originally read them because I bought it on sale, but Bronson Pinchot quickly became one of my favorite narrators (I think he has the best male-reading-a-female-character I've every heard).
I Am Legend. Forget the Will Smith movie which shares little with the source material other than title. In the book, a last survivor spends his days surviving and learning and spends his nights holed up in his house away from vampires.
I just picked up The Fifth Season.
I’ve seen multiple recommendations for it on r/audible and r/audiobooks, and a friend recommended it. Time to test the waters! There was another book or two I was looking at, but one book should be good for this round.
Check out <strong>Zero World</strong>, by Jason M. Hough, narrated by Gideon Emery.

Appears to be a spring cleaning sale. For those of you with audible accounts, the link would be
But it appears to be just a sitewide 30%
I picked up Neil Gaiman's Coraline and The Graveyard Book: Full-Cast Production for $3.95 each earlier this month. I think they're part of the Kid's Listening Sale going on through the 27th of this month.
The Themis Files series by Sylvian Neuvel blindsided me. Both books are narrated by a full cast and the books are written in a series of Q&A style interviews, so I feel like the definitive way to experience the series is via Audio.
Similarly: "The Martian" was an excellent book but IMO the audio format served to further strengthen the book because it was written in a sequence of audio logs. The Themis Files follows suit.
I really enjoyed A World Undone: The Story of the Great War, 1914 to 1918. I thought it was very well done. It doesn't just include events of WW1 but also backgrounds of the major players.
I can vouch for From Bacteria to Bach and Back: The Evolution of Minds by Dan Dennett. Be prepared for a heavy philosophical exploration of what minds are and how they came to exist.
I have been frustrated with Audible's sleep timer for awhile, especially compared to Smart Audiobook Player.
I found that I could script my own sleep timer with the Automate app. I was also able to use it to add a Shake to Play feature.
The most significant block is the Audio Player Control which uses transport controls to control the com.audible.application package.
I've written an Android App that fixes this too!
The main advantage over other background sounds (usually white noise) is that it comes on automatically when you connect to the affected device, and off when you disconnect -- so you don't have to think about it once it is set up.
The app is in 'early release' so, if you've got an Android device and a speaker/headphones that's affected with the issue, please give it a try and let me know how it works out:
The app is free, no adverts, and I've made the code open source.
Commune by Joshua Gayou. Post apocalyptic story where an interesting bunch of people survive and cooperate at a Wyoming ranch. Great characters and story. Narrated by R. C. Bray. A soon to be four book series. Overall I would rate the series a strong B.
IIRC the first month's selections were pretty good. Carey Mulligan's "Girls & Boys" was fantastic, and I believe they offered the dramatized "Emma" starring Emma Thompson that month. I haven't gotten around to Michael Lewis' "The Coming Storm" but he's a great author and it was nice to see them offer a popular product for free (even if it basically was was an advertisement for a full-length book). Later on I got "Have a Nice Day," which was really nicely done. (Apparently I really like their theater options, which is why I'm excited for Sakina's Restaurant next month).
But there have been other months where I like absolutely nothing (this month seemed lackluster), and occasionally I've thought something had great potential but was poorly executed (low production values seem to be a common issue).
Go to the audible page of the book u want. There should be a link to the kindle version there. U have to be logged in, and it won’t show up on a trial account. Click the link for the kindle version and just buy the kindle, don’t add the audible, cause who knows which one it’ll give u. Then go back to the audible page to buy the book there.
And check out this deal I posted for kindle unlimited, basically works the same way. https://slickdeals.net/f/11514255
My recommendation for a GC is The Story of Human Language by John McWhorter (18hrs). Not on sale unfortunately but honestly, it's worth it anyway.
Probably the best audiobook I've ever listened to. It certainly changed the provincial or "discriminatory" way I was looking at languages and their speakers. Take "ordinary" Taiwan for example. For me, it was mainly a manufacturer of electronics, and a sore point with China. But, it takes on a deeper and far more interesting significance when you learn what "Urheimat" means. Tiny Taiwan is the origin of the "proto-language" and the Austronesian group, of which there are 386 million speakers (5th most numerous in the world) thousands of miles from Taiwan.
Just remember it's our taken-for-granted use of language that profoundly sets us apart from other animals, at least to me.
Not sure what you mean by 'not too long'... but if you want short, then I'd recommend The Dispatcher by John Scalzi or Snapshot by Brandon Sanderson. Both are just over two hours long.
The Bell Witch - An American Haunting, by Brent Monahan, read by Cameron Beierle.
If he isn't necessarily looking for something recent, this is a great collection to look at. Arthur C. Clarke is generally considered one of the three best science fiction authors ever, and that collection contains over 100 of his stories. It runs just over 54 hours.
I really enjoyed the Iliad narrated by Alfred Molina:
Hey, thanks! I've been waiting for that for ages. It's weird, the release date says 2015, so they must have had it before, and now be putting it back up.
The narrator seems good, I wonder if he had to study Elvish pronunciation before recording! One can hope . . .
