At the time I was using android and this was the app I used:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.lixi.mychain&hl=en
One of the most critical parts of this success was that it had the ability to add a widget to the home screen to create the button I could tap.
This meant that I looked at my promise to myself every time I unlocked my phone screen.
By the time "beer o'clock" rolled around I had not only tapped the button first thing in the morning but looked at that little green number 20 or 30 times throughout the day.
What is MD?
The best one I could find is MyChain. It's old, no material design, and hasn't been updated in years, but it has the best widget out there.
Check out MyChain! It hasn't been updated in literally years, but it has the best widget of any other app out there. The widgets are little boxes that helps you keep on track.
For example: I have one on my main desktop for "workout". Days I go workout I tap it and it turns green, and the number goes +1. Next time it will go +1 again, and tells me I went twice in a row. The goal is not skip a workout by not breaking the chain. Because the widget is on the main desktop it's harder to avoid. Plus, avoiding is assumed not-doing in the app.
And for those of us using Android, there's My Chain. I've been using this one for a while now.
MyChain probably comes closest. And the widget is absolutely essential, I haven't found any app that comes close to its simplicity.
