Just installed Opera browser beta
Ad blocking + Night mode + VPN(when in private mode - one can change region)
First impression: Faster than Tenta Private VPN Browser - but less privacy options.
Opera Beta https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser.beta&hl=en is the simplest answer if bandwidth is your major issue.
You can turn on a feature that sends your website requests (HTTP/S GET, if you know what that is) to an Opera operated proxy server, will load the page for you, strip out the ads, re-compress the images, etc. and then forward you the new smaller (MUCH SMALLER, up to 90~95% data savings on some sites) page.
This also has the result of cutting out ads, but since ads on mobile are just cancer unless they are nothing but (the low profit) text insert ads from google... shrugs
This was the ONLY way I was able to have a 'somewhat' enjoyable reading experience on mobile with <site name removed>. <site name removed> claims there is nothing that they can do about it... but other sites don't seem to have the same issues with redirect and other 'bad' ads as <site name removed>.... so... I don't know...
Note: this would allow the proxy host to know every page you visit...
So I wouldn't do your banking or shopping online like this, but for purely content consumption of WN/browsing, it might not be a privacy/security issue. (Everything is a trade-off, in this case, trading some privacy for better experience...sadly it is even required)
For watching sport events from dubious sources or sites geo blocked in the US but freely accessible in Europe I use:
First of all( w.r.t. other posts):
Secondly:
Your browser has the ability to run both, but when dealing with ads you need to disable JavaScript. Chrome (and I believe Firefox) on desktop clients allow you to disable Flash, JavaScript, etc. on a per-site basis. and I highly recommend you disable those on a per-site basis(so that you can more easily browse other sites properly).
When it comes to mobile unfortunately browsers aren't as customizable. So therefore I recommend "Opera Beta" for android for reading sites with bad ads. This browser tunnels your traffic through Opera's servers and strips out all the ads (even does compression of images, etc.) to save you bandwidth.
The 'thing' is that it -can- keep track of where you visit. so I wouldn't use this browser for normal surfing, but for stripping out ads, or if data usage is an extreme issue for you, this might really help.
