I mean, what the fuck? He gets the talk from his dad and still fucks up by leaving porn open on his browser. That's either bordering on retarded stupid or intentional.
@OP: I use Override DNS for setting my own DNS Server, but I don't think there's a way to hide that app from your son in a way that it's hidden from a horny teenager. Maybe buying a cheap dumbphone and removing smartphone priviledges for a month is a better tool to hammer in that lesson.
EDIT: It seems to be possible to protect the app with a PIN. He could still just uninstall it, but at least that's something. Override DNS
Using any form of adblock helps. On my trip to China I used Adaway but that doesn't seem to work with a Magisk installation anymore so now I use DNSCrypt pointed to Adguard DNS, and Override DNS to force my phone to use DNSCrypt. Pages load quite a bit faster without even basic ads loading, let alone the annoying scroll through or popover ads.
I personally use "Override DNS"

It's not free but it works really well. You can set DNS globally or only on connection of certain networks.
i am using this app since i got my first android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns set it up once and it does it's magic without any nonsense :) *root obviously needed
It's good. I'm running doitright's boot image on my Nexus 6. I had a few apps not working. Nothing major except Override DNS, which is a very important app for me. But I contacted the developer about it, and the fix was easy: No need to patch SELinux, because it was done right in the first place (my words, the developer didn't say that).
If you have root, you can use something like Override DNS.
Or if you don't have root, you can use NetGuard, which let you set DNS-Server while beeing an Firewall.
It uses the VPN modul of Android to archive this and works pretty flawless.
That's on Telstra's data network. Unless you want to do a iptables rule in android it's easier to just download override DNS
if you have root, you can try to specify DNS server with app like dns override

i dont know if it will work, but that would be clean solution....
cleanest is force router to send custom DNS to every device on network
The only way I've successfully changed DNS in Android is to root my phone and run this app. I think it uses iptables to do its thing. Also make sure you don't have a proxy set in your APN settings (Mobile Data only). This still screwed me up for a while.
You're a legend, been trying to fix that issue for three days.
Works perfect for me on LTE now using this app to change DNS

Unfortunately you can't, unless you root your device and use a DNS changer app.
Override DNS works fine on rooted Oreo, even has Cloudfare preconfigured. :)

I dont own a iOS device, but I guess using a dns override app to change the DNS to a public pihole server works.
Note: by using a public server you are trusting the guy that runs it to not look at the list of visited domains, that's why I suggest running your own instead
For android, I use a dns changer a debian emulator and pihole. (the note for iOS doesnt apply because you are hosting your own server).
I use Override DNS Good for me.
I use an adblocker plugin for my OpenWRT router. I use the Adguard list and my own whitelist & blacklist entries.
When not connected to my router, I use Override DNS and use the Adguard DNS servers.
Been using this for years. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns
Override DNS. This is my favorite dns changer app for rooted android phones / tablets. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns
Great! Here is direct link for app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns
I bought it and it works :)
On Android I use override DNS app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns
If you have a rooted phone try using this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns
I had the same problem and fixed it
