You'll want to download the RATP app, in order to plan your metro routes. You can wear whatever you want here, truly. Anything goes for style as long as you look moderately put together and not like "People of Walmart". When you're here, pick up a copy of the "Pariscope" from one of the many newspaper stands; it has all the week's events and cultural activities. Drink lots of wine, I've yet to find an undrinkable one - don't fuss too much about picking the "right" one when you're out for dinner. You can also ask your waiter to recommend a wine pairing. Try and learn some basic French phrases - people are actually very nice to Anglophones and they will try to bail you out once you run out of French, but it's nice to start en Francais. Have a nice time, I hope the sun shines for you!
You are about to visit Paris ? You ~~should~~ must download the subway's app on either Android or IOS. It is a must have to know how to get from one location to another, it provides you informations about the trafic, has a map of all subways and buses of the city and has an english version (maybe other languages but I haven't checked yet).
And please, forget the unpleasant French cliché. If you need any information ask to someone. There are assholes like every where but most of us will be glad to help.
For Paris - The RATP app could help for subway/metro times but the trains are very frequent.
Google maps and an offline download for Paris (if that's where you are going) help too.
I do use tripadvisor infrequently to read reviews
I suggest you download the RATP app to your phone. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fabernovel.ratp&hl=en&gl=US&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dratp+app
It will tell you how to get to your destination via the nearest transportation sites (gare/bus) from where you are and the times the buses or trains are leaving. I find it an Indispensable app.
