Shadowverse. Check out the subreddit for guides/intro (r/Shadowverse)
(sorry can't be more descriptive, I'm at work at the moment)
Shadowverse! It's made by the same people who made Rage of Bahamut, and there is even an expansion pack featuring cards from RoB! I started a few days ago and am loving it.

They give out packs like candy too! It's like a weeabo hearthstone, and I like it a lot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cygames.Shadowverse SHADOWVERSE - a really good F2P (but not P2W) TCG that in my humble opinion is better than Hearthstone. The art style might be a bit "too Japanese" for some, but there's certainly Lovecraftian elements of Magic the Gathering in there as well - making it much more tolerable and even straight up awesome!
Shadowverse is very much like hearthstone but has an Asian aesthetic.
Plants vs. Zombies heroes is a hybrid of a board game and card game where you have lane combat.
Both games are very well received by their audiences. Personally I lean more towards shadowverse, but both games have a single player component to ease you into the gameplay, that doesn't need to be purchased.
You could also look into Shadowverse or Lightseekers. Not my personal preference (Gwent's still months away, Duelyst is probably an eternity away from getting a mobile port, or I'd have recommended one of those instead), but they have a loyal following and based on my friends' experiences they're good to f2p as well.
I recommend Shadowverse. We're having our 2nd birthday celebration mid-June and there's always a lot of freebies that the developers give out in addition to stuff you can already earn in-game (through daily missions, progression milestones, login bonuses, etc.). It's got a pretty active tournament scene as well with the biggest one coming around December where the first place prize is $1,000,000.
Try Shadowverse.
Similar to Hearthstone in terms of gameplay (things like taunts=wards, charge=rush appear in the game), except you can evolve your cards and each class relies on passives instead of active abilities. (example: dragoncraft gets their bonuses after a certain amount of turns in, where bloodcraft gets their bonuses when you are down to 10 health). There is a PVP and a single player campaign. The developers are pretty generous with daily check-ins and promotions. I'm pretty much F2P in this game and I have a decent deck with number of legendary cards.
Another recommendation related to liking Heartstone, Shadowverse.
Another idea. You unlock an auto battle option pretty quickly in Soda Dungeon. So once you've unlocked that, you can turn it on when you want. Or have it off and play when you want.
You setup a party, equip items, and send them off. The progression is you upgrading your tavern/base, unlocking new heroes, finding new gear, getting into new areas, etc. The game does need to be on screen, though, so it's not one that continues in the background.
It's a free game. There is an optional banner ad you can enable that gives you bonus gold. There are optional IAPs to unlock things faster, but the game doesn't shove them down your throat. I played until I felt I'd beaten most of the game and never felt like I had to buy anything to play.
Note that there used to be a couple bosses that you'd have manually fight. Like the auto battle AI had trouble with them. But after you beat those, you could start after them and then turn on the auto battle on.
Shadowverse. It's celebrating its 1st birthday this month so mission rewards are doubled until around the middle of the month and after that you get a total of 40 packs (10 of each expansion) and 6 arena tickets spread across 10 days as login rewards. You get around a total of 50+ packs (8 cards each) for just starting out and a lot more from beating the AI, playing the story missions, achievements, and more.
Also available on Android and iOS
EDIT: He already streamed it! VOD here.
Shadowverse. Although not as much recently since I can now play it on Steam. I also play Game of Dice a lot but I've put it on hold at the moment to check out Valiant Force since it just launched last week.
Um, no. That's not it. Haha.

You won’t get very far in Hearthstone unless you pay, and packs are very expensive.
Every two years, a set becomes unusable, so you have to buy new packs in order to continue to play.
Stay away from Hearthstone if you care about your money at all. The most generous CCG I’ve ever played is Shadowverse (Android | iOS | Steam), which is pretty similar to Hearthstone. There’s also Gwent, although that’s not available on mobile. You can play these games without spending anything, as they’re both very generous, unlike Hearthstone.
I've read that Monument Valley is a good puzzle game. Free on Amazon Underground.
Hitman GO, Lara Croft GO, and Deus Ex GO are also good puzzle games from Square Enix Montreal. All three are also free on Amazon Underground.
And to round out the puzzle section, The Room is a pretty fun puzzle series of Rube Goldberg-like contraptions with a bit of mysterious lore. The first one is free on Amazon Underground, the second and third game will cost you.
I'm having a bit of fun with a weeb FTP TCG called Shadowverse. It did launch on Android/iOS first.
Steve Jackson's Sorcery! series is an engrossing choose your own adventure game with actually good writing. Sorcery! and Sorcery! 2 are free on Amazon Underground. Parts 3 and 4 are $5 each.

Highly recommend Shadowverse for your card game on the go. It's designed primarily for mobile even though it has a PC version so games are quick and the massive population means queues are fast. It's frequently updated with expansions every 3 months (with an extra card set released 6-8 weeks into an expansion) and monthly card balancing. Some of the developers are former professional Magic the Gathering players so may see some influences of that game in their design for this one. It's also free-to-play-friendly with the developers generous enough to regularly give card packs away through events, collabs, etc. There are also numerous ways to earn in-game currency to purchase packs and cosmetics.

Shadowverse! Full fledged F2P, but not P2W, and actually a very good and competitive game. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cygames.Shadowverse
