Allows me to change the different volume aspects (media, ringer, alarm, etc) without having to touch the volume keys. Been using it for years.
Plus the whole "lots of presses just to change the ringer volume" thing that we've now got.
I've had this widget for a long time https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.hinterhofapps.sliderwidget&hl=en - it's recently getting a lot more use as it lets me change the ringer volume silently with 2 clicks. Not as convenient as it used to be before upgrading, but it's something.
That's one of the key benefits to Android, that each app can create it's own notification.
I would heavily suggest trying Google Play Music instead of the Samsung one, as it means that no matter what device(s) you use (Chrome on your computer as well) you can listen to your music anywhere..
There's no "universal" media control buttons, but if you tap volume up or down, (depending on your hardware.. I'm not much of a Samsung fan so your mileage may vary) a volume popup should appear at the top with a chevron beside it.. tapping that should open the volume sliders that are universal.
There used to be an Android App called Power Toggles that had widgets that were always on screen.. seems they are no longer available.
This might serve your needs, it's similar.. though I have no personal experience with this specific app.. I just found it on the Play store when Power Toggles came up empty.
Yeah, it's annoying when I am casting Netflix for my son and I am trying to watch youtube at the same time. But I use Slider Widget, that's the best sollution I have found.

I've used this widget for years on my home screen to do just that. When auto brightness starts acting up, I just turn it off without having to jump into settings. See if it works for you.
I don't think you can put it on the side sense menu. But you have other options.
Install a widget which can control the brightness on the homescreen. I use Slider Widget.
Someone from The XDA forum developed an app which can activate different actions when double tapping the back of the phone. Tap tap. That app can pull down the top bar by double tapping if you configure it that way. I use it for 'open recents'.
Silly question, but do you have voice in-call volume turned down maybe?
I use this widget. I find it easier to keep track of all the different volume settings, rather than going back and forth to the settings screens.
I had the same thing going on with a motox 2013. Never figured out a root cause, but I installed a widget that I could glance and see if my volumes had changed before going to bed: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.hinterhofapps.sliderwidget
I've been using this since forever. It's an old app but it does its job even till today for me.
Basically you get to place a widget on ur home screen and then adjust volumes separately.
Android does not have a way to do this. Op3 or any other model. However Android is very customizable and there is an app or widget to do anything you want. I bet you could find an app that keeps a persistent notification in the drop down that has a volume slider. Or you could find an app with a widget that allows quick silent max or pop-up slider. All in the play store.
Here is one (of literally hundreds):

I use the slider widget to manage the different sound volumes. But the arrow on the right of the volume slider in marshmallow is a welcome addition.
>take a screenshot without the volume buttons
Enable it from the power menu in settings
>widgets that would give me control of all volume functions
Plenty of all in one volume widgets in the play store (ie)
People in this situation might find Slider Widget to be a time saver -- it shows you all the different volume levels and lets you select and adjust any of them.
For now, try this widget.
Well, "tweak things so this phone isn't so bare bones" is a pretty broad request.
I'm not aware of any custom builds that will allow the full Project Fi functionality right now. That said, if you have an identified set of problems you want to solve, there may well be options for you.
For example, there are lots of volume widgets that you can use, e.g.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.hinterhofapps.sliderwidget
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.gomobile.lollipopvolumebutton
If you can live without the custom build and would just like to tweak things, you could root the phone and install Xposed Framework, which is almost as powerful:
Have a look at Slide Widget
Slider Widget - Volumes might be helpful.
Searching 'brightness slider widget' comes up with this as the top result.

Try Slider Widget
check out Slider Widget for volume and brightness control. I love it.
Well, if it doesn't offer out of the box there are apparantly a million apps that do. I guess it takes a custom rom that implements it if not for a 3rd party app.

I've been using slider widget but once I've got 5.0/5.1 I'm totally snagging that one.
Try Slider Widget from the play store, might work for your needs, not exactly what you are describing, but close.
