I have this strange feeling you're using an unofficial app.
Looks like a Samsung remote, so try this one instead:

Doesn't seem to have any complaints about ads.
I have a series 6 TV (UN58MU6070) and I added it in the new SmartThings app (Android) without trouble.
The only thing I ever do with it in there is use the remote to turn it off or the volume down when I'm a different room.
I also found a Remote app that can do the same thing. So if your model isn't compatible with the SmartThings app, check for remote apps.
My memory is trying to tell me I saw a TV with this feature built into a Japanese TV few years ago, but I can't find it after seconds of exhausting Googling. In penance, here's a couple of alternatives:
Dish Network has this feature today: ->
And here's a Samsung Remote App: ->
(In this case, if you lose your control, just call your phone from another phone and hope you didn't mute it...)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ir.remote.smg.tv&hl=en and then trying the following methods http://factory-reset.com/wiki/Samsung_Service_Menu
Here is a good reference for a direct programming solution (significant effort required) https://github.com/Ape/samsungctl
Another option is using a mobile / tablet app for this. Pro is someone else already did all the work. Not so good for scheduling though https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ir.remote.smg.tv&hl=en_US&gl=US
Finally, any player device with HDMI / CEC can do this for you. I prefer Android devices over PIs, but your preference rules. One potential issue here is that some Samsung displays do not turn OFF consistently via CEC. We have spoken with their devs and found they did specifically remove CEC OFF functionality in some firmware because they felt it was too confusing for average consumers. Yeah, it is a terrible solution. Hopefully they change course in the future....
Anyway, if you do go the CEC route and you have trouble getting it to consistently turn off, you can always use our IRUSB device to force it ON/OFF via IR. It has an easy TCP control API or you be set to run on schedule.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ir.remote.smg.tv . This has worked quite well for me. But you need to connect your tv to wifi.
Imagine having one in everyone's pocket...
