Same as with Reddit, using the official app always sucks because the company will always make these kinds of changes for their own benefit instead of what the users need or want.
Luckily, as well as with Reddit, there are alternative apps in the App/Play Store which you can try out and they will 100% not do any of this bullshit because they have nothing to gain from the social network gaining more users or more engagement, but more people (who already have an account) using their app, so they will always design with the end-user in mind.
