VR Player Free has a cylindrical mapping option, which miiiight be enough for what you're trying to do.
Otherwise, you could look into using three.js and webvr-boilerplate to cobble something together. If you go that route and have Q's, try asking over at /r/webvr.
I just tried the two video players I use, and while I don't think it has the option to save playlists or create custom ones, VR Player can play every file sequentially within a folder. If you click the "3 dots" menu on the top right, and click "Open File", navigate into the folder you want to use, and instead of clicking on a file, press "Select Directory", and it will add all those files to a playlist. It will autoplay videos, and for pictures it will wait for you to press next. You can also jump to specific files within the playlist by pressing the playlist button on the bottom left.
I would also like to see a good solution for this. You can make Unity do it, but it's an incredible amount of overkill for viewing a stereo cube map. VR Player supports display of stereo cubemaps, but the displayed resolution seems very low, at least with the free version. Hopefully someone is able to post better solutions than these.
Edit: missing space.

If you download them play with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vimersiv.vrplayerfree
You can download an app to view images from the Play Store. There are quite a few video players but I'm having trouble finding a lot that can view images. Here are two free apps that do images:

SFMVR_STITCH is a small tool I made for post-processing Source Filmmaker frames into 175 degree fulldome VR video frames. It uses a modified fisheye algorithm stolen from openprocessing.org.

New version! Improved speed! See changelog for more!
These are the things my script does:
This is what a finished frame looks like. If you have an Oculus Rift, you can load it up in Whirligig. If you have a Google Cardboard headset, you can load it up in VR Player Free/VR Player Pro on Android or Mobile VR Station on iOS. Should work for stills or video!
This script is free to use, but please send me a download link to anything you make with it ;-) Just PM me at /u/poVRert Thanks!
