According to U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1920-1945, Meadows, after the completion & cancellation of Government contracts the Ithaca Gun Co. assembled 50 more pistols with high polish blue finish and no military inspector or acceptance marks. These rare pistols were serial numbered in the usual place on right sides of frames from 1 to 50, preceded by “I.G.”.
This inscription & number was hand engraved. These “I.G.” pistols’ manufacturer is documented in a letter on Ithaca letterhead written by John McMorrow, Customer Service Dept. wherein he verifies that 50 such pistols were produced “mostly for presentation purposes, and serial numbered them from “I.G.-1 on up. All officials of the Ithaca Gun Company received one of these guns.
Presentations were also made to members of the Ordinance (sic) Division directly concerned with the highly successful arrangement between Ithaca and the Ordinance (sic).” This pistol is all blue finish with high luster polish marked on left side of slide “ITHACA GUN CO., INC. / ITHACA, N.Y.”. There are no other markings on the slide. Sights are orig fixed type. Frame has the SN on right side and has small inspector initials “H”, “S” and “R” around the disconnector hole. Hammer is late type with serrated spur and it has a serrated mainspring housing. Mounted with full checkered brown composition Keyes Fiber grips with donuts. Bbl has a small “P” on left side of lug and a small “F” on right side and the bbl chamber area has been polished bright over the top. Accompanied by one “L” Code (M.S. Little) all blue WWII magazine.
As for the book mentioned, it can be ordered here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003L3UBG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_97G2EP6PHTYW6WGS8C01
Will need a mount or milled. I like the Leupold 7.5MOA for a pistol. It allows you to zero in at the top of the triangle making it a little more precise than a solid dot, and you can use the full triangle if you want to do a bunch of quick shots.
Edit: I don’t know that I’d buy it from Amazon, I just linked the first one that popped up.
I bought a rail adapter tha NC Star makes. Works pretty good.
I found it under the amazon storename of "American Sheepdog"
They also make state flags, I like it a lot. comes with velcro backing and got to me just under a week even though the estimate shipping date was about 3 weeks on the page.
You could always choose to do a Novak mount instead of having it milled....

yaa havent use talon grips in a while but these work really well with other grips
They're just some cheapo's I found on Amazon. They are really smooth and don't have a ton of grip but sure look pretty I'm the safe lol

Pelican 1200 Case w/ Foam. Link on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002INQT2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The case has the pluck foam that you can pluck out to mold to the gun, which you could do, but you would have to cut out a piece to fit the beavertail because it won't fit. I elected to not do that. There is another smaller layer of foam beneath the top one and I just took that out so that and it works perfectly to keep everything in place without having to deal with the plucking.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I actually just used two smaller file sets for my build... it worked wonders. Stones would be great and give you a fine grind, but if you don't want to spend the 120 try these. http://www.amazon.com/Piece-Precision-Needle-File-Set/dp/B006N3EPKE/ref=pd_sim_469_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1ZX6QGPPSDM7VEV2G1R2&dpID=41G3KjLDh4L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_

Maybe get something like this and see if the sights are pointing where you think there are.
Hi! I actually found one that fit on Amazon! Fobus R1911 Evolution Holster for All 1911 style pistols with or without rail , Right Hand Paddle , Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0010LNKO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZKPS5S351BMRDVSNAN60

Thanks! didn’t even realize that until you said it.
No problem. You’ll learn that 1911s aren’t like Glocks where a lot of parts are interchangeable. Get this book too, lots of good info.
I second the above books too but they are VERY detailed. You should also look at these too. Vol. 1 & 2 but 2 actually takes you through putting a 1911 together. https://www.amazon.com/M1911-Complete-Assembly-Guide-Vol/dp/1888722185/
Tread carefully people on this subreddit will discourage you from learning and tell you to go to a real gunsmith. That being said these two books will help a top as shop manuals I bought them both when I got my first 1911 and they are wonderful wealth of knowledge https://www.amazon.com/Automatic-M1911-M1911A1-Pistols-Kuhnhausen/dp/B01896004C just make sure you get the most up to date editions
Here are your proper manuals, good luck.
I have the SS version and possibly the same grips.

I used this mount it fit perfect. I was told the same thing and that I would have to file the mount but it fit nice and snug with some loctite.
This is the set I purchased, 260 Front/450 Rear - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NEP3JJM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
I had a gunsmith install them and he said I got the "right" set, he didn't have to do much fitting to get it installed. I can't really say for sure if they'll fit your gun though, because my Citadel specified that it had Novak-style sight mounts, but yours just says "Fixed" rear sight. I did see in the Q&A section that plenty of people mentioned these sights fit their RIA, but they all appeared to be .45 caliber models, my main concern is that the 9mm model might have a different dovetail.

Not sure, but you might need a bit more pressure than a food saver pump. These look pretty nice

Looks like you have nice grips on it already. I'm a fan of the Pearce rubber finger groove addition. It sits under normal 1911 grip panels and adds squishy finger grooves to the front strap. It significantly improves grip and aim in my experience and is very low in price. To reiterate, you take your grips off, put the pearce grip on, then mount your grip panels back over it.

I second the winchester safe. it's the 12 gun safe (really holds a bit less) but I"m super happy with it. You can purchase these lights and stick them inside the door and be pretty much set. The lights have a disco setting if you're feeling like partying. Good luck OP

That's the holster I'm using, I bought it for my Taurus, and can literally wear it all day, but struggle with my 1911's with it, just not comfortable.
I’m using that same holster for my CZ P07 and it does well for that.
This is what I’m currently using for my 1912 IWB. I don’t have this (We The People Holsters - Black - Inside Waistband Concealed Carry - IWB Kydex Holster - Adjustable Ride/Cant/Retention https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZQBK31H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_12RYM9EP3C2PY0EY5SZ1?psc=1)yet for my 1911, but got one for my CZ and it feels a lot better than the Infused Kydex option and has adjustable cant.
Welcome to 1911’s! One way manufacturers keep costs lower is the amount of finishing work done on the pistol. Good news is you can perform some of this yourself.
Watch a several YouTube videos on 1911 full disassembly. If you are really trying to save money 3/32” punch covers the pins that need to be removed.
Get a small arkansas stone from brownells or amazon. Oil the stone and go over the internals gently removing small burrs and lightly polishing parts smooth. DO NOT change the geometry of parts, just polish. DO NOT work on the sear, hammer, or disconnector engagement surfaces. Inadvertently changing geometry on those parts can cause serious safety issues and should only be done by experienced smiths.
Remember, you are patiently smoothing with a slow and light touch.
Lube the pistol up well and I bet you will see a noticeable difference.
Watch lots of videos and feel free to message me with any questions.
Links to stones.
Purpose made:
It will work but a little big:
It really is unfortunate that more gun safes aren't really more accommodating or aren't setup to make it easier to do this. The shelves of course only work in a Browning Safe by default and cost more than most other solutions but in my opinion make things so much easier. From what I have come across Browning has the best solution.
I further store my handguns in Bore Stores for various reasons but getting mine in and out of the safe to include being able to place 12 per shelf has really made my life a lot easier.
The Browning Handgun Shelves are best solution I have come across to this point. Unfortunately you would have to have a Browning safe to use them.
I got this and like it. My shirt covers it pretty well.

Putting a rail on the frame is going to be a custom job, no two ways around that. There are trigger-guard mounted rails, but aren't too solid/stable in my experience
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058DC00W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_SDP9H5QV3EAHZAHCDYXE
As for swapping the barrel, most any will fit, but they really aren't going to be "drop-in"; they'll still need to be fit, at least a minor amount. Would have to see your specific model to say which style of ramp it's cut for, but it'll either be a GI ramp or a Para/Clark style of ramp (I've seen them with both)
Triggers, mag catches, and grips are specific to the Para style of double stack 1911. Safety, slide stop, grip safety, and the rest of the internal frame parts are standard 1911 components
you can just check sites where they sell gold and silver. they are out of stock a lot of places. even amazon seems to have them:
https://www.amazon.com/oz-Silver-Bullet-45-Caliber/dp/B06XTD2CBQ
Seconding this. I've got one of these. Holds 5-7 cards, pops them up when I need them, and it's been really easy on my pockets with the nylon and leather cover. Still RFID blocking, still comes with an elastic strap for cash.
I took a seamripper to the leather logo, but I just don't like that kind of branding. It's been great since August 2018 now.
No it wouldn’t. The magnets come with rubber covers and are the super rare earth ones with like 55lbs of force. I use them for my bedside gun.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07XCK2PSG/
I dunno. Just seems like I would prefer to keep the expensive holster for wearing.
I’m looking for something similar to try out. Decided to be the guinea pig on this one from Garrison Grip on Amazon. I’ll let you know how it works. Looks beautiful!

I got the Comp-Tac International Holster on Amazon for about $65. It's not made to be used with the light, but then again I only have the light attachment at home ;)
It's a fantastic holster:

I'd personally go with the magazine adapter, for a simpler install and removal versus the trigger guard mount
No work table or vise. I changed the sights out on my coffee table. Well, I was sitting there, I held the tool in my hands. Here’s the one I bought, I’ve used it on Glock, Sig also.

Of course, glad to pass on information I’ve learned from others to help others. Rub the flitz paste on, they have it on Amazon for under $10 let it dry, or get a foggy color then wipe off with a cotton rag. Link is posted below

Its a tank filled with water and uses sonic cleaners to blast the dirt off the parts.
You can buy them on Amazon.
I use this on my hand polished aluminum wheels.

Before I had a Bridgeport I did it this way. I’ve found cleaning up the file marks with these helps quite a bit
Edit: hyperlink not working, it was supposed to link to sanding sticks on amazon, just google it
Then I’d keep it. Looks cool in my opinion. Definitely unique grips. If you decide to save your one-of-a-kind grips and want a unbelievably good set of bargain grips, get a pair of these: Pachmayr 02921 Signature W/Out Backstrap, Colt 1911 Combat https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RZ0HRE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_idZZCbPKHAY4Q

Have fun! 100 lumens isn't super bright, but I think it'll be adequate for home defense.
I was looking to use a tool like this rather than a punch. I figure it should pay for itself immediately vs paying someone to install them.

I have a kydex holster on order though.
The Houston holder is very comfortable and fits well on me and the gun but since I carry in condition 1 I’d like a hard case to protect the safety and trigger. Not that the Houston one doesn’t but a solid click when holstered would be preferred.

springfield also ships the weapon with a plastic paddle type holster/magazine carrier. these are high quality but are really only good for open carry.
I bought these
Texture feels great and they look awesome with the parkerized finish of the gun
Wonderful pistol. I bought one about 5 years ago and it is now my every day carry. Only issue I've had is I live in Texas, so do sweat a lot durring the summer. I was fighting rust pretty regularly on the side of the slide that was towards my skin. This was with a good holster. I ended up getting it cerakoted, and haven't looked back, it's wonderful. Did change the grips for something with the Texas star on it. One thing that I would recommend is the Avid pistol tool for the 1911. I bought one and it is now my every day carry knife. https://smile.amazon.com/Real-Avid-The-Pistol-Tool/dp/B00TFXIWH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484628552&sr=8-1&keywords=1911+pistol+tool.
You can get the Pearce finger groove insert that goes under those beautiful blue grips and may be just the compromise you are looking for to get some of the feel of that p238.
I have them on both my 1911s and love them. (And if you prefer, you can use them with the slim g10 vz grips so the gun stays about the same thickness).
https://www.amazon.com/Pearce-Grips-Rubber-Government-Equivalents/dp/B0002INNYU
Yes, officers model, here is the amazon link : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ILQBM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Makes a huge difference in the grip, for me. Have the Hogues on my fullsize 1911 .45 as well.
The assembly / disassembly gets easier with time as you become more familiar with it and the gun breaks-in more.
Also, if you haven't done so already get the M1911 Owner's Guide by Walt Kulek. You will not be disappointed.
I have read many many topics on coating, and have seen thread after thread that VHT Engine Paint is as tough and durable as Cerakoat when coating steel (not polymer). It's easy enough to undo if you screw up, but if you Google around, you will see many successful good-looking rattle can VHT projects. It's not like your Norinco is a safe queen anyway, right?
There's a lot of holsters that work well for sights. Look for competition holsters. I use this for my FNX with a red-dot and a can. Works decently, as long as the magazine release doesn't get slapped.
Nope, not any more than will get into it anywhere else, if I've got to clean the area more often so be it.
As every one else said, shoot it. If you do decide on new grips, these would look pretty sick on her.
Personally, I like commander style hammers, so I'd change that. That would require a beaver tail grip safety as well, but that's just me. If the trigger is good, leave it the hell alone. More ammo and mags, you cannot have too much of either.
Part of the reason is sticks up so high is that I'm using a Novak RMR mounting plate... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JSAKM7Y?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
EDIT: Forgot to mention (in case it's not obvious) that it didn't require any modification of the slide...
I have a green lasermax. It is extremely light and small. The on/off switch is easy to accidentally turn on. Their customer service is excellent. Link for reference, not necessarily a good price: http://www.amazon.com/LaserMax-Uni-Max-Green-Mount-Integral/dp/B000TTVDG2
I'm usually carrying multiple knives and guns on my belt and in my pockets so I use suspenders.
i swapped out my stock grips with the same Magpul ones and they are amazing. I've never tried VZ or Wilson Combat grips but for less than $20 they're very worth it!
I will thanks! Only issue is, the smith said the front sight had to be a drop in. That's why I was looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/Meprolight-Tru-Dot-Night-Government-commander/dp/B0002INCZA/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391614217&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=Meprolight+Tru-Dot+Tritium+Night+Sights+for+Colt+Government+Handguns
I also like how the rear sight comes back a bit, and almost matches with the end of the slide.
I was looking at these grips: http://www.amazon.com/VZ-Grips-Recons-Magwell-Black/dp/B00DJTZV9E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391320014&sr=8-2&keywords=VZ+Recons+G10+Black
with these screws: http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/frame-parts/frame-hardware/frame-screws/semi-auto-engraved-grip-screws-prod12759.aspx
G10s, from what I've been told are pretty good. This texture is suppose to be a bit rough, so it should help with the grip. I'm currently using the stock redwood grips. They're pretty smooth, no grip at all really.
To me, it adds too much to a 1911. I like mine with slim grips, so something like this is just too much for me. I have one of these if I want to add a rail to mine. http://www.amazon.com/NcStar-Pistol-Accessory-Adapter-MAD1911/dp/B0058DC00W
