Most 80s genres have plenty of gems for you to discover. Start with the well known hits and then delve into the obscure deep cuts. My personal favorite 80s genre is synthpop
These are not all synthpop but they are essential listening: Depeche Mode, New Order, Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, OMD
You’ll also learn the ways modern music is influenced by 80s music, and you’ll be shocked how many 80s songs are sampled/covered by contemporary artists.

So the thing I love most about this song is the original live version: http://www.4shared.com/video/5DWM9dtU/prince_-_original_live_recordi.html?locale=en
It was originally recorded live, and this is the uncut one with an additional verse.
You will probably already know that they are playing at Bonnaroo this year. They were definitely a new sound and a very defining band for the time/lifestyle.

It's only about an hour long but worth the watch, first ever interview with the girl's father and boy does the history there explain a lot. This whole thing is decidedly unsettling, well beyond just her shooting up a school.
From Songfacts: "This song is about a relationship that has passed, perhaps because of cheating, but the singer reflects on everything that was said, and still hangs onto their relationship, even though he knows his chances of ever seeing them back together are less than likely."
Haha, great!
I loved the music, the energy, Will You is amazing, and I bought a 4-track cd with this one, Will You, and a couple of other tracks - I still have it, but mostly I just get on youtube if I want to play music nowadays :-)

I was 11 years old when this came out and remember the video was getting media coverage for being risqué. This would have been around this time of year, June 1984. I was a Branigan fan from the beginning and still love all of her albums.
BTW.... Cherry Red (UK) just released a 2-CD expanded and remastered edition of the SELF CONTROL album. I just received my copy of the CD directly from Cherry Red's website. It appears it's already sold-out on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Self-Control-Expanded-Laura-Branigan/dp/B085RRZQK2/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=self+control+laura+branigan+expanded&qid=1592906599&s=music&sr=1-1
