Indeed, the one in the picture is a second-generation Sable. The most radical design change occurred between generations two and three. There's a fascinating book about the development of the third-generation Taurus / Sable: Mary Walton, Car: A Drama of the American Workplace (New York: W. W. Norton, 1997). Amazon link.
I had a '94 Taurus GL sedan in the same light green color as the above picture. (Green was very popular in the mid-90s.). The best part about that color was that it was easy to find in a parking lot.
