this is a WW2 version of the same turn/movement point based strategy in AoH2.

It's slightly more complex, as there are multiple kinds of air, ground and sea unit types that all have different stats, although on the whole the game centers around a rock-paper-scissors advantage mechanic (for example, artillery beats tanks, tanks beat mechanized, mechanized beats infantry, infantry beats artillery).

The scope is smaller, as you can only choose one theater of the war to play on at a time, and the game mainly focused on completing different missions for each nation (like taking Berlin as France, for instance), which in turn unlocks new missions and new nations, although you can keep playing on a certain scenario for as long as you'd like even after completing the objective.

There are a few different strats that can give you an edge, and as you get more used to how the AI works you'll be able to make better reads and conduct more efficient wars, but the overall systems in game (like stability, investment, research, building, province biome, government type, etc.) give very minor buffs and debuffs, so you won't suffer too much if you don't play optimally.

Contrast that to something like EU4 where interacting with 10 obscure menus is the difference between conquering the whole world or your nation spiralling into anarchy.

Once you get better at the vanilla game you can move on to something like the Bloody Europe mod which is slightly more complex.
