Beautiful girl!
If the cone doesn't work out, we used a recovery suit for our girl and it was great.
Just as an example:
> So, is there anything I should know besides obvious stuff?
Hmm I think you've covered most things. All I can really add is definitely take good photos of your foster dog - it makes a HUGE difference in finding them a good home. This was a photo I took of one of my BC fosters: https://www.flickr.com/photos/aveldina/8377296573/in/set-72157632488296577 just randomly while she was hanging out in my kitchen. This photo ended up getting shared on facebook with her eventual adopter - lucky girl went home to a beautiful ranch house, and a fantastic new start in life.
Remember when you are training to keep your eventual adopter in mind (unless that's you!). "To me" might make more sense to you, but if most people are going to naturally use "come!" to recall their dogs, it might not help them much if you don't teach the word come. Even I struggle to change my default words as they are the first ones that come to mind.
I for sure tried to do agility training with my fosters mostly because I enjoyed it. A lot of fosters though came to me pretty out of shape, sometimes they were getting surrendered because their previous owners didn't have time to exercise them. So do remember to take things gradual for dogs who need that upfront conditioning. Enjoy and have fun!
Not sure if this will cover the stitches, but we used a recovery suit for our girl when she got fixed. She liked it a lot more than the cone.
We bought a tail teaser for mine. It is a lot of fun and she uses up quite a bit of energy within 10 mins. She absolutely loves it and could play that forever. It also helped a lot with her leave it training. If she does not leave it in the first go, I just take it away. So she started to leave it on the first go so she could continue playing. This is the one I bought Outward Hound Tail Teaser Durable Dog Wand With Soft Plush Toys https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042I5G2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_mL7PBfMAqqDGW
Edit: mine is not very treats motivated. She only wants to play. So it has been really tough and this has been great.

okay, I'm off work, and just so you know, I LOVE helping people decide names for things! HERE is a link to synonyms of the word "sparkle". I must say if you go that route, I'm partial to the name Flicker, you could say Flick for short!
also, I've looked up a few "traditional BC names for girls"...and these are the ones that caught my attention.
lol. Yeah, I love looking up names! <3 <3
My last BC had hip dysplasia and had to stop running with me at 8, so I may have been overly cautious with this one. We didn’t start jogging until he was fully grown (got the ok from the vet when he was about 11 months). We had done some frisbee before that but only low ones and for short periods of time.
I highly recommend herding balls. (They are touch plastic they can roll around and chase). They entertain my pup for as long as I’ll let him play. Warning, depending on how vocal your dog is it can be a fairly loud activity. We have a couple different sizes, the 6” is his favorite.
If you really want to keep that ear erect, you can use japanese ear tape(Ear Tape for Dogs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HQQ1VJN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8DQCEW4DJEJSYNGAF84X)
A small piece(2ish inches long) of the tape placed vertical in the ear for a few weeks will keep that ear standing up. It will essentially keep the ear erect while the cartilage naturally firms up! The tape is skin safe and doesn’t hurt them at all!
I actually use the tape to help my boys ears stay ‘tipped’ over. A lot of us who show BCs use it and recommend it :)
This seems to be them. Found them on amazon comparing the photos.
I bought this toy from Amazon about a year ago after vet recommended it, and it has absolutely been the best purchase ever.
It’s like the Kong wobbler but much better. Super durable. 2 different doors the food has to get through - both adjustable to make it easier or harder. Enough room inside for a snack or a full meal. Keeps my BC occupied for ages, can’t recommend it enough
https://www.amazon.com.au/Starmark-Interactive-Large-Yellow-Purple/dp/B001JQLNB4
We had the same problem with those rubber Kong frisbees. They would last about a month.
I picked up a Hyperflite Hyperflex frisbee 6 months ago and while all the graphics have worn off, it's otherwise 100% intact. They're a little pricey, but they last way longer than anything else.
https://www.chewy.com/hyperflite-jawz-hyperflex-disc-purple/dp/167736
I mean a chuckit 26 inch length classic launcher with medium balls. I use these chew king glow balls as replacements, because they are indestructible, and highly visible to my dog, since dogs see in black and white. They are a little hard for me to see, but she finds them easier than the bright orange.
I think you will find that play with a launcher can tire your dog in a way not remotely possible with walks, and great exercise like that tends to really help limit destructive behaviors the rest of the day. It makes them overall more content.
Before when we were just walking ours, she was making holes in the wall. Now I exercise her with the ball launcher in the morning, and she doesn't dig the walls.
Of course, at the top of my head we’ll be able to do at least 2-3 hours of walks a day, minimum. So we’ll fit in what we can during that time.
When you say ball launcher, do you mean something like this? https://www.amazon.com/PetPrime-Automatic-Launcher-Interactive-Pet/dp/B09MRHDX2V/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=dog+ball+launcher&qid=1669586435&sr=8-5 Otherwise happy to hear a recommendation! 😊
In case you want another option, the jolly balls with rope have worked great for my border collie. She’s a chewer and only managed to get the rope halfway out after over a year. https://www.amazon.com/Jolly-Pets-4-5-Inch-Romp-n-Roll-Blue/dp/B000HHMD6U/ref=asc_df_B000HHMD6U/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218421090408&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17407724637716654815&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&...
Please use a nylon fabric frisbee. Plastic frisbees can do major damage to pup’s teeth and gums. I’ve found the hyperpet brand to be the most durable.
My boy has always had a more sensitive stomach, but as he's gotten a little older (10), it's been worse. We give him Purina Fortiflora probiotic every morning and it's massively helped to regulate him. He also loves how it tastes.
Immediately stop any mutual play sessions between them, or Kal will become just as aggressive / reactive as Revan is. This is not an easily fixed problem - you will need to do some serious behavior modification with Revan, requiring almost 24/7 supervision. I suggest finding a canine behavior specialist if possible, or at the very least, investing in Susan Garrett's book "Ruff Love":
https://www.amazon.com/Ruff-Love-Relationship-Building-Program/dp/1892694069
If you don't have the bandwidth in your life to do this kind of training, then it would be best for everyone (especially Kal) to rehome Revan.
Good luck!
Immediate treatment with Capstar (no prescription needed), followed up by monthly Sentinel treatment (requires a prescription) and a Seresto collar (no prescription needed). Be sure to take the Seresto collar off if your border collie goes swimming in streams or lakes.
As far as I am aware it is a habit forming exercise. At 11 weeks I don’t think you can expect her to hold it and whine at the door yet.
I recommend getting some bells for the door like this:
Take her out fairly often, at 11 weeks for Luffy I walked him every hour when he was out of the crate. I would ring the bells by the door, and say “potty.” Then when he went potty I would go “yes, potty!” Eventually I had him ring the bells each time I would take him potty (even if he didn’t ask to go).
I did this for months. He overtime learned to associate ringing the bells to go outside for potty.
Hope that helps. At 11 weeks, Scout is going to struggle holding her urine for any amount of time. You would be lucky to get 3 hours during the day, but expect less than 2. And since she doesn’t have a strong association to going outside yet, she will probably continue to eliminate in the house.
Are you using crate training to help with potty training?
I just use a regular pin hairbrush:
I use the pin part the most. I had a fairly long hair dog before Luffy and it worked perfectly for him. This pin brush works on Luffy as well.
And surprisingly, it does remove the undercoat fairly decently as well.
If you’re talking about something like this, HUGE no. These are basically little razors that cut pieces of hair. When people say “Furminator”, 99% of the time they’re talking about this brush because it’s unique to their brand. Now if you mean something like this, that’s fine, it’s just a normal slicker brush that varies a bit brand to brand. Option 1 I would steer clear of, you may not notice it now but the coat will likely get patchy with age and repeated use.
Our boy just turned one... he's our first dog as well. We are so in love and impressed with daily! Border collies are the absolute best :)
I take my dog swimming at the beach in the morning before the sand gets too hot! I also have a couple of different puzzle feeders that I put treats in that he gets out. I wrap his favourite toy in a blanket and tie lots of knots in it for him to get his toy out (would also work with treats). Kongs are great, fill them full of peanut butter and freeze it. Also interactive toys, my dog loves this one https://www.amazon.ca/Allstar-Innovations-Wobble-Giggle-Ball/dp/B00PQ5UH0C/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=1OVJBCE2VFQR9&keywords=self+play+dog+toys&qid=1658090073&sprefix=self+okay%2Caps%2C160&sr=8-8
Yes! Victor High-Pro Plus has excellent ingredients and is high in the healthy proteins/fats at 30% protein, 20% fat. We are very active with our boy and feel good about him getting all of the nutrition that he needs as he grows. It's for puppies & dogs of all ages. Our 11 month old has been on it since he was 11 weeks, has always had solid poos and a solid stomach. He LOVES it. $1.50 per pound. We purchase it on Amazon.

When we brought our puppy home he would eat SO quickly and get the hiccups. We started using the Kong Wobbler and haven't looked back. We put the kibble inside then smear almond butter over the top and let him at it inside a pen we set up for him. It has slowed him down significantly and he enjoys rolling it around to get his kibble out - it's a job for him. :)
It's just a cheap one I got on Amazon for the last puppy I had. I don't think they're in stock anymore, but it looks like there are links to similar ones from the product page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QRC65ZM/
Maybe yes if you want to focus the herding instinct. otherwise only recommendation is ball with stiffer plastic that can't be torn up. The stiff plastic ones limits her options to only fetching it or pushing it around the yard. IE she has to play, she can't chew it.
We have this one for now, it was her first herding ball but now she's big enough to mouth it and bring it back https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EMSVVAI/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_V4CKP9NM1V7RK6X0MD5V_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We like it. It's soft enough for her not to hurt her teeth and small enough for us to still throw and kick. I'll eventually graduate her up to a bigger ball that she will only be able to push around.
Invest in a citronella bark collar and prepare to smell like lemon verbena for a few days.
During the day, put her in her crate for ALL of her meals, no exceptions. Play crate games with a click and treat for stepping even a foot in. Keep her in for very short times mixed with longer ones.
Dogs don't really defecate to express their opinions, they do it because they are stressed (and perhaps not getting as many potty breaks as they need for their age). Take her out often and praise her with a trigger word for both urinating and defecating. It can be the same word ("Go potty") or a different word for each function. Later on, when you're traveling, it will be handy to have that on command.
Good luck!
We got this one. It is “advanced”, so 3rd hardest out of 4 steps. Our BC will be 2 soon. She had a hard time with it. You can make it easier by “unlocking” the white bones on top. I was spreading peanut butter on the bones and turning them a little bit so that she’d have to interact with the bones.
Sometimes she would accidentally unlock the bones with her paws while trying to rip open the drawers, haha.
Try a frisbee. She normally just chases the retrievers at the dog park but when someone brought a frisbee she seemed more interested in it. I got her this ChuckIt one and as long as we’re alone she’ll chase it, try and catch it, and bring it back. She was never interested in retrieving any kind of ball.
We got our boy this 36" crate with the divider along with this cushion, size large. It has been perfect. We used the divider, moving it back as needed until about 6 months old then removed it. Now he's 9 months, weighing 40lbs and the crate is a perfect size for him.
We also have a 30" crate for the car. It does the trick but seems like he's cramped in there these days.
I have had similar problems with my 10 month old, now using Glandex soft chews.
Seems to help him, maybe worth trying with your Girl.
GoDog toys - the "Dino" series is the best. :)
... it IS a stuffy toy so obviously not INDESTRUCTABLE for all dogs, but it's the only stuffy our boy hasn't destroyed. As a plus, the company will replace the toy if your dog ruins it in the first 30 days.
I’ve got two heavy chewers that take “indestructible” as a challenge. We’ve had great success with the Kong extreme chew toy - we call it the hippo - and the f
I’ve seen people smear peanut butter on a wall of the tub so they have something to keep them occupied. I know there are also lick mats that have suction cupson the back that work similarly, but probably occupies them longer. My BC isn’t super food motivated as it is, especially when he’s anxious, but could be worth a shot!
Easy Walk harness, size small: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OGLHHA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
There is a book called Canine Enrichment by Shay Kelly that would be helpful for this. There is a related Facebook Group that has a lot of easy DIY ideas for toys.
A good "job" for reactive dogs on walks is holding something in their mouth, like a toy or stick. The idea is that they're too focused on holding their stick to react. You need to teach him "take" and "drop it" in a quiet environment first and then you scale up to holding on to something for increasing periods while on walks. Once that's solid for about a minute, you can just pop it in their mouth before they react to something. If you're lucky enough to have a dog that enjoys toys/ sticks, you can carry it so it's up by your shoulder for quick access. This will also have the effect of training the dog to look at your face and pay attention to you more on walks. You can Google "look-at-that" for training to pay more attention to you.

We used something like this when our oldie was having balance issues. Link These kids are the most resilient creatures on the planet. Bless them.
Hope she's walking better soon!
No problem.
Sorry I missed the part about the leash pulling the first read through.
Ours did that a lot too, and he loved chasing Cars and anything else that moved. We tried putting a harness on him with a clip on the chest and back which did nothing. He just pulled harder clipped on the back and pulled sideways If it was clipped to chest.
What fixed it was this
Basically it lets you control the dogs head, the leash clips just below the chin. The dog has far far less strength to pull and ours pretty much immediately stopped pulling when we put this on him.
He hated it initially, like tried to get it off his head but once we went outside the smells and sounds and other things were more exciting. Now we pick up the halti and he knows its walk time.
All of this is still a work in progress with ours, he is only 1 year and 2 months old now so he is still bmvery much a puppy but is getting better all the time.
Hope you are able to get ahold of some of these negative behaviours and glad you see the good in the dog and not just the bad at the moment.
Good luck with him :) it's all worth it because these guys are wonderful.
So tricks we do all that I mentioned.
We toss a ball around the house with him.
I dunno what kind of food you have yours on, we have ours on a mix of both raw meat patties and a high quality kibble. We feed ours his kibble in either of these two devices.
The ball he has to roll around for awhile until the kibble falls out and takes awhile.
With the mat the kibbles get sprinkled throughout and they have to sniff out and find all the pieces which get tangled into the pieces of fabric
Both of those help work their mind and take some time and turns what could be a simple meal in a bowl into a fun game for them.
With our pup all we have to do is say "go find your food ball" and he will run around the house to find that orange ball. So not only does he have to work for the food but he has to work to find the thing we put the food in.
It’s my personal opinion and not based on research. I just feel BCs are too intelligent and have too high an EQ for a kennel or crate. It’s quite easy to train them and for them to be trustworthy enough to be out of confinement like this while I’m not home. With our current puppy we us a more open cage design when we have to leave him alone like this, but as soon as he gets just a little older and wiser he will be free to roam the house as he pleases. Of course with puppies and young dogs we have to use gates and caging of some sort, but I think crates or small cages where a BC can’t be up and walking around isn’t ideal. They are such energetic, curious, and active dogs. With our last BC we adopted her one her first birthday and after about 4-6 months she knew the rules of the house and we never used a cage with her again for the remainder of her life. Again, to each their own. This is my subjective experience and opinion
I am not sure how much she currently weighs, but she shouldn't have changed much, since she's fully grown (currently 16 months), but the last time I weighed her she was 19.6kg. Although she's on the larger side compared to most BCs (which may be due to her parents both being working BCs).
The best way to predict your boys weight at adulthood is working out his growth per week. Via the old fashion way or using one of those online predictors.
I hope I helped, and I wish you the very best with your puppy :)
Border Collie: Yes
Shedding: You bet. Been using this Brush and even though it doesn’t look like it would work, it does. It has helped a lot.
This is actually a float from the ocean that I found. I did buy this. It’s basically a big hard plastic ball. She loves them and it really engages her herding instincts.
We used Ziwi food and Wild Weenies a lot during the puppy training phase. We used hot dogs and string cheese when training important commands like the recall.
I solved this problem for my dogs - they had problems with my wooden steps too [https://www.amazon.com/Transparent-Non-Slip-Carpet-Resistance-Outdoor/dp/B07JL5XNHM/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1YRC954KUG0V&keywords=eden%2Bproducts%2Bnon%2Bslip%2Bcarpet%2Bstair%2Btreads&qid=1638984444&sprefix=Eden%2Bproducts%2Caps%2C206&sr=.... I am in the US but I think everyone is right! I found these I’m sure you’ll have something similar in your country if not? (I think I heard French but I’m terrible at languages!)

Just FYI, a tub shroom works wonders when my dog gets a bath! It’s a huge help keeping the drains clean.
I use a slicker brush. I also trim what I call their 'Einstein hair' (the wild fuzzy stuff) with a thinning shears like this one. You can buy one for not too much at a Sally Beauty Supply shop. You just have to be careful to hold their ear down and out of the way, otherwise you might nick them.
For the hair on their rear thigh, I use a mat-breaker like this one. After you've taken out the stiff wiry hair, it's easier to get the shedding rake or pin brush through it. like this one. After you've taken out the stiff wiry hair, it's easier to get the shedding rake or pin brush through it. I also use a slicker brush and the thinning shears to trim their rear pastern below the hock to make a nice straight column. It helps keep the mud from sticking so much when they play.
I’ve had this onethis one for a little over a year and have had no issues with it. In my experience, the 25lb option holds a 30lb bag of food with no issues

Dog water fountain.
We obtained this little baby boy at three months from a breeder in Southern Indiana. He's a red-tri with a distinctive blaze. We loved him for six months, but unfortunately were forced to conclude he would be best somewhere else. (Had we lived in the country rather than the city, we could have handled him easily.) Letting him go was the most heartbreaking decision of our lives, but we sent him to his breeder with copious notes, tons of his favorite toys, all his vet records, and so on...
His breeder promised to keep us updated on his well-being and work with him to fix some of his more problematic behaviors (resource guarding, primarily). They did no such thing. They lied to us. What they apparently did do was rehome him pretty quickly. We hope he is doing well!
If you know who has the little guy, please let them know about this post. If the little guy is now yours, you can contact me anonymously here on Reddit by creating a throwaway account using a temporary e-mail address from a service such as https://temp-mail.org/en/.
If you would contact me, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd love to talk to you about the little guy, provide you with information and pictures, and hear about how he is doing. If you're comfortable with that, it would mean the world to us, and we do think we can provide you with information that may well help you with him. (We doubt the breeders passed much of anything we gave them on, save perhaps his vet records.)
Yeah, I’ve had issues with ball throwers too. I’m thinking something more like this

I worked with a groomer, they said the furminator can actually ruin the dog's fur. They recommended this type of brush for my border collie: https://www.chewy.com/safari-single-row-undercoat-rake-dog/dp/182866?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=Safari&utm_term=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItPuOw6Ds8wIVQic4Ch2nwwItEAQYCiABEgLgLfD_BwE
+1! Not to mention the dog's teeth hurting the frisbee. No, the health of the disc is not important... but when we rescued our BC, she must have gone through 4 discs in 2 weeks. Then, I found this model. 4 years later, still have the same one. Highly recommended!
Wait until you see what they can do with a frisbee! I recommend the soft ones, seems like a regular hard frisbee would hurt his mouth.
I have been using these since my pup had both of her acl’s repaired. They seem to work great. Nutramax Dasuquin with MSM Chewables, Large Dog https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002T2BWGI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NZHS6A7KVK292QS8QSMH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Gentle leader, there are many brands but I use this one https://www.amazon.ca/HALTI-Halti-Headcollar-Black-Size/dp/B004XNLCPC
It is not a muzzle, the pup can still eat, bark, sniff, drink, do whatever they like. But the leash has control of the head if they pull. My pup had a harness that attached to the chest, it helped a bit but then he would just pull sideways.
With the halti he doesn't pull at all since it turns his face around. He didn't like it at first, pawed at it but after 5 mins he was fine. He now sees me grab that and sits down and waits for it to go on because he knows it's walkies time.
As long as the tasks aren't physically demanding/stressful there's no reason not to try anything you'd like. I worked through a number of the tricks in 101 Dog Trips by Kyra Sundance when my oldest dog was still a pup. Great book and a great author if you're looking to do more trick training
I hear ya… I usually get these at the store for 3.99.

My BC Loves ball as much as anything. I have found that racket balls seems to last a very long time, they don't get dirty, and don't peel/shed like a tennis ball. If they every get dirty or covered with debris from being wet with dog saliva, or wet ground, a quick wash /rinse in the sink does the job. I find the "Spalding high-bounce ball" give my BC chew exercise, and last a long time.
We have a 40# mix (75% BC, then cattle dog). For negative temps and salty sidewalks, we use Pawz (medium). She hates it, until she gets outside and starts walking and realizes she has superpowers. Other brands she stepped out of or didn't stay on.
There's a lot more options now but here are the ones I use
If she gets real good at it I'll switch to fluentpet buttons
There’s dematting brushes you can buy. I had to teach my pup to let me touch his clumps by giving him treats every time he sniffed the brush, then every time he let me touch him with the brush, then every time he let me move the brush and so on. And with regular brushing you should see less clumps form, here’s two grooming sets I like:

Ah yes. My dog also LOVES this Nurf gun. She loves catching them but hates the texture. Only downside is the fear of her eating it, which she hasn’t yet.
+1 for balls. Our girl’s favorite is squeaky medium size tennis balls. She likes when I line them all up and then flick them across the room one by one.
I know this isn’t a dog toy but we found this our belongings and she LOVES IT. She can play by herself by spinning in a circle and making it bounce off the floor.
I can say also a Babble Ball. Someone left a babble ball at a dog park and our dog was obsessed with it. She would not play with anything else that day.
We really loved this playpen (until he outgrew it at 8 months old and started being able to tip it off its base):

Relatedly, this one is pretty good. Softer and much more durable than an ultimate disc (which are pretty brittle), and throws a lot better than the fabric/cloth designs. The branding rubs off fairly quick but the disc itself holds up fantastically.

So the AKC/ABCA registration isn't any indication of crossbreeding or inbreeding. All it means is she has some ABCA dogs, AKC dogs, and/or dual registered dogs. The ABCA does not recognize AKC registration (they will accept CBCA, ISDS registered dogs), but AKC is still an open registry in this breed and accepts registration from ABCA, CBCA, ISDS, etc. She may be breeding an ABCA or ABCA/AKC dog to an AKC dog, those puppies can only be registered with AKC.
In this breed, an AKC dog is a 'lesser' dog. That's not to say there are not poorly bred ABCA dogs, or that all AKC registered dogs are bad but you are far less likely to find a quality working bred dog registered with AKC only. The Dog Wars is a good read to understand the split and the AKC dilemma.
Let me know if that link works. Amazon also sells ball type toys, where you put treats inside so they have to play with it to get the treat out! The puzzle game might be more mentally stimulating, which is good for border collies!
It is perfect! We used to buy the foam chuck it brand ones that are usually around $20-$30 and she'd destroy them almost immediately. We tried this brand out and we've only had to replace it ONCE in 2 years.
A favorite from west paw linked below. They have some others id like to try too.
List of kongs linked below. My favorite is the genius Mike and goodie bones. Id like to try the genius Leo.

That’s the one I have. Perfect fit, hope your training goes well!
Establishing "dominance" isn't really a thing, and if you keep thinking like this, you will continue to have problems. Frankly, since you seem to think it's a thing, you're probably going to have problems anyway. You can't fix stupid.
It sounds like your dog has resource-guarding issues. This is not an easy problem to solve, but here's a good book:
I put my old girl on Grizzly salmon oil when her skin and coat started getting dry and flaky, it's helped her a LOT. It seems to add a lot of calories so keep an eye on his weight if you use it, her weight kind of ballooned up when I started using it
Puzzle toys for food or treats, lick mats, Kong's.
The second one, which has been a complete game changer for us, is to put clothes on him. Our girl just got spayed and needed to chill for at least 10 days. Whenever we put on her bodysuit, she becomes a completely different dog. She will just lay with us on the couch, and fall asleep. Give it a shot, good luck!

The Wundapet Bionic toys are great. Our BC has had one for about 5 years and there's not even a mark on it.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bionic-Tough-Rubber-Durable-Orange/dp/B01MSLX6QH
This is Chancy's recommendation. One of these lasts her 5 months despite about an hour a day gnaw, she really loves both flavors, and it gets her teeth gleaming white.
I swear by this one! It seemed to fit better to me and my bc never got it off
I really like it. To be clear, I use both the rigid collar AND this shirt, but the shirt allows me to take off the collar to give her a break every now and then. But I find it isn’t enough protection to keep a dog that wants to get to the wound from getting to it. A big problem I found after her initial spat was that Kinney would lick at the shirt, soaking the shirt, and then that saliva soaked shirt would be sitting on the wound, which is no bueno. But if your dog doesn’t lick or try to bite at it then MAYBE you won’t need a collar as well.
Also, I tried both an inflatable collar and a floppy collar, but neither worked well, so I just stick with the traditional rigid collar.
Kinney is 35 lean lbs and I got her an XL. You don’t want it too right as you don’t want the fabric to rub the wound.
I use a comb that has two rows for my good Boi
Similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon5stars-Dog-Comb-Stainless-Deshedding/dp/B07K9H1PM8
It works wonders for knows knots and loose fur without it being too aggressive. I also have another smaller comb but use that every so often
Great harness. In case these links don’t work, search “Icefang” on Amazon.

And this leach is great. I like the carbines hook.
But it looks like they are out of the coyote brown.
Dog Agility Equipment... https://www.amazon.com/dp/1450505147?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It has a teeter totter multiple jumps cat walks and many others. I highly suggest it for a backyard course. I built the jump and bought a tunnel and mine loves it
You bet! We like this one. Relatively inexpensive and will keep going if flipped upside down. Down side is battery doesn't last too long, so we ordered an extra lol

Great question! There are several schools of thought to this but all of them pretty much go back to "look at the parents". Generally if you've made a sound choice in mating pairs, any of the pups should have an equal opportunity to turn out as a good working dog. Beyond that... some people will pick the pup that looks like a certain parent or a certain look they like, some will pick the ones who did certain things in the whelping box, some will just pick one that they fancy for whatever reason, some will take whichever pup is left over after the rest have been chosen by buyers. I have a friend who picked the pup that growled at him at a week old when he picked it up, I have another friend who picked the one that didn't run and hide when she started the lawn mower. I just had my first litter and kept two- one of them was the first one to escape the whelping box and do several other firsts, but both of them liked to sit back and watch things, a trait their mother has that I really liked.
Bottom line is it's a crapshoot. At eight weeks old you're guessing/gambling. Look at the parents, hope for the best. The book Top Trainers Talk About Starting A Sheepdog goes over this quite a bit, really great book if you're interested in figuring out how young dogs work! Hope that answers your question, feel free to ask anything else :-)
Treat/food-filled Kongs and puzzle toys are an easy way to keep a dog busy. Otherwise my BC's favorite toy is her wobble wag. It's pretty loud and can get annoying if I'm trying to take a nap or work on something, but she happily rolls it around the house all the time.
I ve seen this on Amazon, which is rather recent and has good reviews. Has anyone gone through it?

He for sure looks like a mix of some sort. I would guess Australian Sheppard as well given the coloring and since that mix seems to be most common.
As far as advice goes, I would recommend this book: https://www.amazon.com/Barbara-Sykes-Training-Border-Collies/dp/1847978894/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=Q26MTRCHPVJ4GSBDTXG2
In short: tons of exercise, attention, & daily mental stimulation and you should be good.
I got a FitBark (FitBit for dogs) for my BC to help me track actively levels and remind me when she needs more exercise. She is usually good at letting me know when she wants more attention or exercise, but I wanted a way to measure it so that I could remind myself/view trends.
Thank you!! He’s wearing Pawz they’re almost like a ballon so they form around his paws and stay on really well. We bought him a few other really nice hard bottomed boots but they just kept falling off or making him uncomfortable. When we took these off his paws they were still warm and he had an awesome time, would definitely recommend!
Ya, I'd recommend you just try one on. We got ours at PetSmart
It seems you can get one on Amazon in a small/medium too.
