Can you try an espalier? It would be a bit tighter-fitting to the wall (and may not protrude the full 2 feet) but is very amenable to shaping.
That is a neat description! I have been meaning to spend some time figuring out the differences. Some of the other pages look interesting too.
The only thing I could add is that the guide I use ("San Diego County Native Plants", James Lightner) describes B. nigra's leaves as "lobed with teeth", and has a close-up of a leaf that looks more lobed than the H. incana.
I'll have to stop off on the way in to work and check out a stand of mustard, if it's still alive. I am feeling pretty sure it is B. nigra now!
