It's a good start. Anyone can learn to draw - having an eye for it is only a tiny part of it. The rest is work.
I recommend picking up a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. There's loads of good exercises in there.
Key to doing good drawings 'from your head' is to do a lot of drawing from real life. Draw what you see.
Critique time: You've got skill selecting colours and your forms are recognizable (honestly, if people can tell what it's supposed to be? That's a good launching point). The composition isn't bad, but the scale is confusing (trees and person and pond are not proportional to each other). Too much white space.
Have you ever taken any drawing classes? The key to being good at drawing is to never stop drawing. There's a few pubs around here that have drink and draw nights, and my local artist's collective has a life drawing night every Wednesday for $5. I'm a professional illustrator and I still do this even ten years in.
Really good, especially for your first time! Your shading and highlighting looks really good, but it would look a lot better if you had different colored pencils. Prismacolor Scholars are what I use, and right now there’s a good deal for them on Amazon (Prismacolor 92808HT Scholar Colored Pencils, 60-Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004GIIZCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HGBJ9PGY85K5NQGDS2H2). Their pigments are much more vibrant and smooth, and blending between colors is so much easier.
I recently purchased these, and they are excellent.
I bought the smaller pack at Michaels Arts and Crafts, but I wish I had waited and looked for them on Amazon, they are a lot more affordable there than they were at the craft store.
Staedtler Triplus are nice fine liners and Prismacolours are good quality pencil crayons. Michales is always so expensive, so I don't go there often. Not sure how the prices compare to amazon. You might be able to find these at Staples or Walmart if you have one nearby.
I like it. I would would probably try to keep my color chart in it and would put use the coloring page to actually do different blends of those colors and remind myself of what colors look good together. You should cross post to /r/notebooks.
This is the only one that came up on a quick amazon search:
I searched for Polychromos on Amazon and found this: 120 set for $151. It has more than 400 review too. $400 is way to expensive, even for Polychromos. The prices go up and down all the time and the current price is a steal! I bought them at $190 more than 2 years ago. Plus Amazon will refund you if anything goes wrong. So, go for it!
They almost never go on sale in the US. Even last Christmas, it would've been cheaper to buy on Amazon UK and ship them here as they had a sale going on.
If you're in the US, Prismacolor will go on sale very frequently. Last time, the full set of 150 went as low as $50! So wait if you want to buy them. But $160 for Polychromos is an excellent price to get them!
I love Crayola Fine Line markers for coloring. They are cheap, easy to find and there is a good color variety!
Hi guys! I'm thinking of making a coloring journey with my character Metalhead, and would like some opinions on your coloring experience for it!
I've made a free coloring page to start off with, here's the link!
I don't know what is too expensive for you but the other day I saw the 72 set on amazon for $65 down from $84 which is quite a good deal. You could always try getting some open stock and build up your collection from there. And I do agree they are a bit pricey, but I think they are so worth it. The ink is much more vivid than regular watercolor in my opinion.
You could watch them on camel camel camel and see if the price drops again.
Oh wow.. Sorry. I don't know how to make the link shorter. They are Koh-I-Noor woodless pencils. They blend really well.
Yeah, I'm kind of sold on the Derwent Inktense. What do you think would be better? The blocks or the pencils? I think the pencils are more comfortable and easy to use, though the blocks seem nice too.
Edit: Sooo I found this tin box of 72 on sale in my country and it's like 65 Euro ($70). It's a really good deal right? I think I'm gonna buy these. http://www.amazon.com/Derwent-Inktense-Pencils-Metal-2301843/dp/B001XCWP34
Edit 2: Hmmm, so I read this review and I'm changing my mind a bit. http://hubpages.com/art/Watercolor-Pencils-Reviews#
I see that Faber Castell and Koh-I-Noor are something I'd probably like more. I won't be using the watercolour only with water and I want a nice pigment even when I use the dry pencil. I think I'll be getting a smaller box of Derwent Inktense stricly for waterbrushing and other types for both waterbrush and dry use.
They’re German-made and really high quality.
On of my favorite books in my collection is American’s Favorite Birds. Big pictures and a picture of every bird in the book so if you want to color it as close to the real thing you can.how to buy the book This company also has two other books to look at, Birds of Paradise and Backyard Birds and blossom.

I haven’t had a single lead break yet which I love! I got one of these adorable cases so I could keep all the colors in order and use them more easily ☺️
I bought this sharpener off Amazon a month ago: https://www.amazon.com/Mobius-Ruppert-Brass-Double-Sharpener/dp/B0028D63IK/ . The blades are replaceable and aren't terribly expensive. So far it's worked wonders on every pencil I've tried it on. I also suggest using it on a regular graphite pencil every so often - that helps to clean the blade.
I have Fanciful Faces published by Creative Haven (artwork by Miryam Adatto). I just started it, but I love that I can use so much color in each page. Fanciful Faces on Amazon
I really like this book. It colors nicely in pencil, none of the designs are overwhelming to get into, every page is single side printed, and the paper is pretty decent, quality wise. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1661264107/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_1wJLFbY0XKR3P?\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 (100 Flowers: An Adult Coloring Book, Jade Summers)

I also really like ColorIt's coloring books for when I want to do something that isn't overwhelming. They're printed on really, really nice quality paper, spiral bound at the top, and perforated to easily tear out. I've used pencils on a couple of things I've done in the one I have, but think it's definitely geared toward a wetter medium, like markers. The pages may hold up to water coloring as well.
I couldn't find the original thread, but here's the Amazon page.
He also has a face tattoo coloring book. He makes them for educational purposes, hence the unconventional themes.
He's a super nice guy, so hopefully he isn't offended if he sees this here, although I imagine he knows that medieval torture isn't a common coloring topic. :P
Im late to respond (dont check this account often) but thank you for the kind words.
This is from a Mandala book I bought at Walgreens but it can also be found on Amazon and other stores.

Hi! It’s actually Eriy, a Japanese illustrator.
These are my absolutely favorite coloring books, she drew the illustrations with toothpick dipped in ink. Totally insane.
https://www.amazon.com/Romantic-Country-Fantasy-Coloring-Book/dp/1250094461
Yeah, I tend to press too hard, and the wax buildup/flattened tooth makes it really hard to get any of the other colors to take to paper. If you don't get good results with the Derwent set, try the blender I linked, it's a lot more forgiving if your layers are too thick or you want to rework the blended area.
But you might be better putting that money towards some paper, I like the cream and grey best. A user recommended it to me, and I pretty much copy all of my coloring pages into them. I like it a lot better than Strathmore, Canson, etc, and it's super cheap. Also not sure what pencils you're using, but Black Widows and Derwent Coloursoft give me much better results than Prismacolors.
I think you're pressing down too hard — I know because I do it too lol. It's much better to do multiple light layers. Pressing down too hard will flatten the tooth of the paper in some places, which will make your colors go down unevenly — this is especially true of wax-based pencils like Prismacolor. This can also lead to streaked or muddy colors and 'wax bloom'.
As for blending, I personally use white quite a bit, but you can also use a color that's similar to the ones you're blending — with hair, I generally blend with my lightest color or mid-range color. I saw some recs for Derwent's blender/burnisher set. I used it when I first started coloring, and I really like their products — their electric eraser is a lifesaver, but this is my favorite blending tool. It works with wax- and oil-based pencils, and it doesn't change the color of your work. Also, I totally didn't realize this first, but you can just sharpen it with a regular pencil sharpener.
Thank you so much! 😁
This coloring is from the Too Cute Coloring Book I picked up a few weeks back at a store. But Amazon does carry it. They have some really cute coloring pages 😋
https://www.amazon.com/Too-Cute-Coloring-Book-Designs/dp/1464776555
You could try my android app "Photos to coloring book". It is designed for taking any image and making coloring pages you can print. I just put up a post in this same community asking for opinions about my app and would love to hear how it works for you. Or doesnt either way I hope you start feeling better.

I've been enjoying this coloring book Luna coloring book, it has a good mix of stuff and it's not all super intricate. If you click on the illustrators name on the Amazon page you can see their other coloring books as well. It's a pretty nice book too, it's hardcover which I like.
I usually look up wet blender arts and crafts, but you're right! It just shows food blenders. Crazy. So, I tried "blender pen" or "colorless blender" and it came up. This is the one I have. Bonus is, if it runs out you can just dip it in a little alcohol. I swear I've always called these wet blenders.

I havent used those ones so I can't recommend them.
I was talking about these ones but it seems like they're much more expensive in your country.
Pencils wrap is the best option imo, and it's important to have one-per-pencil spots. https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/Trousse-crayons-toile-faite-main/dp/B07SN163MK/ref=m_pb_allspark_dp_session_sims_pao_mobile_sccl_1/142-3932695-6107053?pd_rd_w=jh8mQ&content-id=amzn1.sym.ea41ac33-a973-4c6b-a2b7-fbeeb8bdb91c&pf_rd_p=ea41ac33-a973...

I bought a small set of Noris once and I agree, they’re the worst pencils I have ever used. I’ve also tried Ergosoft (Staedtler is cheap in Europe) and while I like them a little better, they’re also not very pigmented and I found them frustrating to use. I had to do amillion layers to get the pigmentation I wanted.
Faber Castell has some triangle-shaped student pencils that I like way better. They’re softer, more pigmented, and also much nicer to hold for long periods of coloring.
Edit: they’re called Color Grip and it looks like they’re a little pricier in Canada. I paid 10€ for the same set.
Moo is adorable!
I've found a wide range of quality in Staedtler's colored pencils. I bought a 48-pack of the triangular 1270s for less than 10 USD and didn't like them. (The cores are way too hard so I have to press down on the paper, which tears cheap paper and strains my hand.) However, the Ergosoft pencils are a completely different experience. They're smooth but not too soft, vibrant, and easy to work with.
If you're looking for cheaper price but good quality pencils, try Prang Groove.
Thanks the colored pencils I used on the teal part of the dress/hair are these. They do come in handy!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0799PM2XX

I looked up videos on y youtube and got myself a good set of pencils, its all about the pencil when it comes to shading/blending its all about the better quality pencil and I use Castle mainly.
Sure, and sorry for the delayed response. I got the Afmat colored pencil sharpener. Look around as there are other options but I'm completely satisfied with this.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JCC9LSP/ref=dp_iou_view_item?ie=UTF8&th=1
It has barrels like coffee grinders that are different from standard electric sharpeners and 3 variable sharpness settings. It also sharpens from the top rather than the side which I think is way better while I'm working. This one works both with batteries or direct electric outlet. I've use it all the time portable and haven't had to change batteries yet. My only complaint is the compartment that holds the shavings is a bit difficult to open to empty. Previously I used the Primacolor Premier sharpener that I preferred over others I tried. The electric sharpener has me spoiled now.
Hope that helps.
Aw thank you! It is one of my latest books I've released 🎃! It's called Spookshow!☺️🙌🖤🦇 I have a combo special on my site www.adinicole.com with Haunted Halloween or you can get it on Amazon Spookshow on Amazon

I'm still out of bright markers so I've been coloring digitally! This page is from my book Desert Dreams on Amazon!
I too am in the same boat and am looking at 2 options. Gel Crayons and oil pastels I have picked up both options but yet to implement them.
Yes, it is called Haunted Halloween. You can get Haunted Halloween on Amazon. It was my first ever Halloween book, but I'm working on a second one in a few weeks! If you get one I'd love to see your work if you wouldn't mind sharing it with me! I put a lot of classic Halloween elements in there, but I also mixed in some esoteric and witchy magic elements!🎃🖤 I'm a Halloween queen at heart and terror trader just requested some spooky themed books so a ton of horror, tarot, and crime coloring books are going to be coming out of me for the next few months! I'm kind of excited if you couldn't tell!🤣🎃

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
I will buy some of these this weekend.
BTW, in terms of q-tips, you can buy makeup artist ones that are actually a flat circle on one end and a sharp point on the other. I've found both variations helpful for blending different areas! https://www.amazon.ca/Fran-Wilson-Tees-Cotton-Count/dp/B00M24IYF0
I do find they sort of "unravel" fairly quickly, though. I'm hoping the paper blending stumps stay pointy for longer!
when I use my colored pencils I use a mix of brands, but one book I just got it looks like I may need to use a combo of markers and pencils since some of the hair accessories are so tiny I may use pencils on that, its this book!
Yes it's called Desert Dreams! I made it! 🥰 I have it here: desert dreams on Amazon
And I sell it on my personal site www.adinicole.com !
If you get one I'd love to see your work if you don't mind sharing! It's my favorite part!🙌✨☀️

Here's an Amazon link for the specific book:
Colour Lovers is a website with millions of palettes created by users. You can sort by the most loved, browse by colour and even create your own. It's a pretty good jumping off point for learning about colour. (I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just a fan.)
It's also a good idea to start reading up on colour theory. There are tons of articles and books out there, especially for web design I've noticed, that will really help you understand why you're picking a colour.
I also find it helpful to swatch colours together on a piece of scratch paper so you can see how they look together.
It's my 90s wave coloring book! It's available on my website www.adinicole.com and on 90s wave on Amazon.
Thank you!🥰 That makes me feel so good. It's my 90s wave coloring book! I designed it to fight my depression so it's got a ton of fun patterns mixed with 90s nostalgia and vaporwave vibes! If you get one please let me know. I'm a small timer so I get super stoked over every single one, and I'll also want to see what you come up with!🙌🥰 I also have some free downloads of coloring pages on my site too if you need a freebie to print at home! It's available on my website and it's also on 90s wave
Omg!! Thank you so much! I don't personally ship them from my site to Australia, but I did make sure my books can ship there from Amazon! Here are the links if you are interested!🖤🥰 If you get them, please share your work with me! As far as I know you'd be the first person out of the US to have them and that makes me so happy to know they may be all the way around the world! 90s wave
its the paper. whatever paper that coloring book is using is absolute shit for alcohol markers. you need a thicker paper. try looking for books made by pepin press specifically for markers. here is an example. the paper is the best ive ever used. coated on the backside so it wont bleed thru. ultra blends. here is an example i did out of the linked book. pepin makes a bunch of book types tho so be sure to get the ones listed as marker coloring sheets. and bear in mind some of them are postcard sized, be aware of that before you buy.
Hi there! Yeeeeees! It would mean tons if you color it !!! Yay!!! (And btw, may I ask you to send it to me when it's ready??? I'd love to see the final piece!) Regarding the credit: I don't have any instagram account (At least not one where I upload my art, just a personal one packed with boring food pics) For this reason: May I ask you to share a link to the Amazon Page? (I'll leave the link below) Can't wait to see your colored version of this drawing! Stay Creative!!!! ;)

I don’t think it’s quite what you’re looking for, but this is the one I got today and like it so far.

It seems pretty sturdy and I can 5 or so coloring books in it (depends on how thick your books are)
They are the brush markers, my first as my others are chisel and nib. I like them a lot, and $15 for 12 markers seemed like a good deal. I do think the 36 sets are expensive compared to other brands like Ohuhu or Artifty ( I'm purchasing the 40 sets to try). Shame because I really like the color-coordinated sets but not enough for 60 bucks.
