Apparently, GitLab migrated from Azure to Google Cloud Platform, so that is not safe. Apart from that, they have indemnification laws.

What about LineageOS for microG? I'm writing this comment on it and it works really well on my OP6T, even through this phone isn't officially supported. Highly recommend.
Freetube for desktop is great. It allows you to watch YouTube video's through any invidio.us instance via a proxy. It also allows you to subscribe to channels without an account. There even is an option to not route your traffic through Freetube. I definitely recommend it.
Depends on your goal.
You can use it to host a website for yourself, a 'cloud' instance, you can use it for email, photos, access anything on your computer from your phone, tons of possibilities.
Plus, if your email provider ever goes down you can easily switch the domain to a new email host.
If you do choose to purchase a domain, I'd recommend https://njal.la/ or https://namecheap.com. Stay away from godaddy and google.
