Hey u/The_Real_Buck_Rogers, a great question that I will gladly help answer.
If you decide to use our secure storage, have peace of mind that our zero-knowledge system will provide the best protection. If our servers ever had a breach and someone gained access despite all our security measures, any user data they would find there is encrypted with uniquely salted keys based on their Master Password. We also never store the Master Password in our servers meaning no one can steal that either.

Hey u/TheCitrixGuy, Dashlane offers the Essentials tier which does not include VPN. Check out the tier comparisons at Dashlane.com/plans and more information at Making the most of Dashlane Essentials.
the official note from the software says:
>No sooner than Q2 2021
I would assume they mean the end of the quarter so I guess we can expect the process to finish somewhere in July. I'm sure there will be more communication once the deadline is set in stone.
My issue with the removal of the desktop software is the fact that I use other windows software which requires passwords (like Steam) and I don't always want to open a browser just to retrieve my password.
Have a look at Bitwarden (https://bitwarden.com/)
I used to like the fanciness of Dashlane but after a year or so of using it, too many little things irked me and there seemed to be no feature progress or bugfixes despite raising issues and creating feature requests.
I moved to Bitwarden for personal use as it's open source and free. They also provide premium business plans which may interest you.
At the end of the day, the premium cost of Dashlane wasn't justified by the features provided for me. Everyone has different requirements though so, like others, I would recommend trialling a password manager in a small team first and seeing how it fits into your org's needs.
We used LastPass at a small company I worked at years ago (~100 employees, about 10 using the LastPass vault, mostly IT/technical users) and found that it was very geared towards web sites and less friendly towards storing local network/application credentials, at least as far as the interface goes. May have changed since then though.

Hello,
This is Edgar, from Dashlane's User Support team. Here to help.
Please note nobody at Dashlane will ever need your Master Password to be able to help you or in any other circumstances. Your Master Password is never transmitted through the internet since the check is done locally by the application.
When you create your account, you create a Master Password to encrypt your data. This Master Password is used locally on your device to decrypt the data. When you try to log in to Dashlane, if you enter the right Master Password (checked locally on your device) then your data will be decrypted locally on your device.

Hey Henry, I thought 1password was only subscription based now - looking at the pricing plans here's what I see https://1password.com/sign-up/ could you point me to where I need to go for a stand alone (windows clients, that syncs with my iphone and ipad)
/u/Dashlane_Support, could you please clarify what data you share with Hotspot Shield when we activate an account there? In particular, do they receive any data beyond the email that we enter into the activation form and a true/false way to check if the corresponding Dashlane subscription is active (e.g. Dashlane account email, name, billing info, any unique ID)?
Also, is it possible to change the email tied to the Hotspot Shield account after we create it, or will that cause issues with the connection between that account and the Dashlane account?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I think the issue comes from the VPN that Dashlane is using as I have the same issues occasionally on my Android phone when trying to connect over certain WiFi hotspots.
It's worth pointing out Dashlane actually use Hotspot Shield to provide their VPN service (mentioned I think the service itself is just a bit flawed and crumby, hopefully, they will switch providers somewhen to someone more competent, until then it would be wise to be careful when using the built-in VPN.
Dashlane VPN policy:
They claim not to collect any data or provide info to advertisers. However, as ThreeEyeCrow noted, they use Hotspot Shield / AnchorFree as their VPN provider, which does have questionable practices regarding advertising and data collection.
It's possible that Dashlane has worked out an agreement with Hotspot Shield which allows them control over how customer data is used. However, it's impossible to know what's really going on behind the scenes, and the fact that they chose this particular VPN provider gives me pause.
Dashlane's Premium plan is expensive at $4.99 per month. I wonder how much of that cost goes to the VPN? I'm sure they are getting a low bulk pricing rate to use the VPN, but still it must contribute to that high monthly cost. If they offered a basic plan which takes the free plan and removes the account/device limits for $2/month, that would be perfect.
Like a lot of security products Dashlane provides a VPN through a third party, they use Hotspot Shield to provide the VPN
I haven't used this VPN but Hotspot Shield seems a bit of a concern based on the cons listed here
I would avoid and if you need a VPN use a dedicated VPN app from a VPN provider you trust.
Just so we're clear, right.
So if I subscribe to Dashlane Premium I'll get access to Dashlane (duh), Neeva Unlimited and Hotspot Shield. This I get.
Now if I subscribe to Neeva Unlimited, supposedly I can get a Dashlane "Premium" access, but in this case does it mean I'll also be able to use Hotspot Shield? I just want to make sure >!because subscribing via Neeva is a tiny tiny bit cheaper.!<
I have to agree with you. I used to have Kaspersky Password Manager when I ran into a problem there and was forced to migrate out (after finding no solution for a long time) and I shifted to Dashlane.
Now I've been using Dashlane since March and I think it was the best decision I made. A VPN included (although not a fan of Hotspot Shield) with my Dashlane subscription is a cherry on the top. I love the new Authenticator feature as well, it saves me time going through my phone to enter codes each time.
Dashlane VPN is outsourcing to Hotspot Shield that you can google hotspot shield review My case I will using Hotspot SHield when my ISP block me when I try to connect to Bilibili (bandwidth issue?), then I need turn on the VPN service to get connected
I solved it.
First of all https://www.dashlane.com/download force you to download windows app which is discontinued and do not inform you about it.
It happens when you use browser which is not supported by browser app. I was using Opera.
I have used android app instead to register (I guess you can use chrome app also).
Then I have tried to log in to windows app. It was successful and app informed that it is discontinued and forced me to use browser extension app and suggested to uninstall windows app.
So why windows app was even suggested to download in the first place?
btw. without proper windows integration (and just browser integration) it is useless for me. Deleted my account :/
I'm also concerned that a third party company that I didn't sign up to has my information? Like Dashlane clearly had to give my information in order for them to make an account on Hotspot Shield. Otherwise how else could I so easily move services? That means dashlane without informing me, created an account in my name, impersonated me and then told me about it after the fact, since I didn't know the services had changed until I went to use my VPN
You can download LuLu application firewall, to stop Dash from talking to the internet:
https://objective-see.com/products/lulu.html
Based on the messageBar at the bottom, it looks like they hardcoded the deadline into latest update. So, the above probably wont work unless you also download an old version of Dashlane...whatever site you like, there's loads of them.
Possibly the old versions will still work, but, pretty easy for devs to prevent apps from syncing.
Recommend downloading and old version now, syncing up, then turning up LuLu...at least until you find an alternative
They've mentioned verbatim in other posts that they "don't care about old users", looks like they've hard pivoted to....bottom of the barrel masses, and away from technical users/enterprise.

I just spent the day migrating to Bitwarden, and will be doing the same for all my clients after I spend a week personally evaluating.

BW supports your requirement, and a hell of allot more: https://bitwarden.com/blog/new-product-release-fido2-safari-biometrics-and-more/
Considered doing what NordVPN did, which is removing the login from the extension entirely and using a website (they have their own Nordaccount service).
The login page can use all browser features and therefore also u2f
Thanks. I'll check it out. I also just noticed 1password is basically the same as Dashlane at just $35.88 a year with 1GB of storage. It does not have Dark Web scanner, but it does not find as many sites as https://haveibeenpwned.com/
And pay for something that has the VALUE of what you pay for. I loved Dashlane, HATED when they got rid of the desktop app which was a LOT easier to work with for data input or working some things out in multiple windows. Then they want to hose you with the really high costs of renewal after they hook you. I went with Nordpass as a manager and imported their data. Most work fine, and I have over 300 passwords from sites. What the issue for me is, a few websites do not fill in my name and information right on new forms. But the value was there for the costs. Dashlane seems to have forgotten that part, value. So I still have Dashlane basic with all my info, their exported data, and Nordpass and with ALL 6 of my systems and phones, laptops, PCs, and tablets, all works well. I just want to get a renewal update for Dashlane and use if when it is convenient. Otherwise, 1password has some good reviews for the NEW version just released, new interface and all, and if Nord tries the same thing with me, I will go to them or back to the OLD one I came from, Roboform with the discounts they give. It's a value thing, what you get for the money. But after using Nord for several months now, and they update a lot, I like it, and NordVPN has been awesome too, the same way with good updates. I like the company and their appreciation of their customers and the prices they ask. Best wishes to all.
I will use the desktop app till they kill it an then I will move elsewhere. For anyone struggling to find the Dashlane Desktop Installer here is the direct link. https://www.dashlane.com/get-desktop-app
I just got this response from support: “Regarding the 2FA feature, at this time, you are only able to disable/enable it on the Desktop Legacy App. If you no longer have it installed, you can do so using the link below: https://www.dashlane.com/directdownload Our team is working on making this feature available on the web app in the next few weeks.”
Hi! It looks like you are describing our free Dashlane experience, where the account is allowed on one device at a time. On a free account, this message you are experiencing will continue to appear on any new devices the account attempts to log into.
If you belong to one of our paid tiers (Essentials, Premium, Family, Business) where the account can sync across devices, please let me know and I will gladly assist. Send a private message with the email address associated with the account so I can take a look.
If you are a free member, please continue to enjoy Dashlane on a single device at a time. If interested, please check out our plans at https://www.dashlane.com/plans.
This is a direct link for downloading the desktop app - I think this is something that happened because of the new push to use the plugin - although I like the desktop app much better.
Please make sure to complete the creation of your account: https://www.dashlane.com/webapp/account/create.
Purchasing Dashlane Premium does not automatically create an account for you, you'll need to manually create the account to be able to use your subscription.
Best,
Hi there,
Our team wanted to offer a complementary 15 days of Dashlane Premium to some free users. There's no need for you to take any action. At the end of the 15 days you can decide to either purchase Dashlane Premium if you want to continue using these features.
Otherwise after the 15 days your account will revert back to free automatically.
In your case, if you haven't used your account for a long time, you could follow instructions here to delete your inactive account.
Best,
Hi there,
This link should allow you to download the Dashlane Desktop App. Could you try from Chrome? It should download an exe file for you to run to install Dashlane.
Best,
Hi Milo,
Thank you for asking this question.
Dashlane has offices across different countries: USA, France and Portugal. However, our users' data is hosted in Europe — more specifically in Ireland — by Amazon Web Services, one of the most respected and secure cloud hosting solutions on the market.
Also note that your data are encrypted and your Master Password which is the encryption key is never stored into our servers. We are proud of our zero-knowledge architecture that ensures that only you have access to they key that can be used to decrypt your data.
Feel free to have a look at this FAQ about security at Dashlane and to download our Security white paper here.
Best,
The Dashlane Support team.
Thanks u/Alpha-Ceph for this first super accurate answer, here are some details to it.
1.: Nothing to add here. You put your trust on your ISP and admin system (if you use a school computer) not to mess up with what you do online.
2.: All true. Dataleak is (as of now) based on domains (the device is alerted of all domains breach and decide to show you a notification after comparing locally if you have a given domain) so we won't lookup for leaks with your passwords. We also have a dark web monitoring with email lookup but it's optin.
3.: No local mode for now (you can have a secure backup on your side if you want too) but sync is the only available mode. As u/Alpha-Ceph said, I recommend you to always install the extension when not on your own computer because it is more secure.
4.: I will add here that if you want to know more about how we do security at Dashlane, it's public, you can read everything in this document: https://www.dashlane.com/download/Dashlane_SecurityWhitePaper_September2019.pdf.
Hope you'll enjoy using Dashlane and protect your online life starting now ;-)
6 months for free for EXISTING trial user:
What u/timetrapper wrote is their personal promo code, if you use his, both you and him will get 6 months of premium for free. However, only if you do not use dashlane already (if you have the free trial, it won't work either).
What I found to be the easiest solution to get 6 months for free on an account I already used for the trial period, is to create a promo code on that account (Windows: Help menu -> Refer a friend...; App: Invite your friends), use that link to sign up with a random email, and both your existing trial account and the random email will get 6 months for free WITHOUT paying anything it addition.
If you think I helped your fellows who already have a dashlane account, but you don't have one yet, please consider using my promo code to get those 6 months for free :)
https://www.dashlane.com/cs/dFR_-XDMREaW
Export the passwords from your current Dashlane account as csv.
Create a new account (different email address) and use my referral code: https://www.dashlane.com/cs/oFJwzYUsL9n0 . This gives you 6-months free premium account. You can then use your own referrer to refer other friends and get up to 2 years. With your new account, import your csv file from your old account. Done. Free + syncing
https://www.dashlane.com/en/cs/3ba08451 This link gives you 6 months of free Premium for new users, rather than the usual 1 or 3 months. However, new users only.

The link works permanently - has been up for years, no expiration :)
This is feature is only available for Beta users... Check https://www.dashlane.com/en/beta to become a Dashlane Beta Tester.
As of the moment, you can store up to 1GB of files when the feature is enabled. If you have Premium, yes, it is synced across all devices!
Side note: Sharing is not enabled for Secure notes that have an attachment.
I checked more with this, and can it appears that this is only available for Beta users... Check https://www.dashlane.com/en/beta to become a Dashlane Beta Tester.
Edit: As of the moment, you can store up to 1GB of files when the feature is enabled.
We totally recommend the subscription (better experience all around, all the apps included at one price including updates, more seamless syncing, etc.) so that's why we only advertise it. But if you're still looking for a standalone license to use 1Password like the good old days, you absolutely can! Download 1Password 7 for Windows and you'll be prompted to choose between signing up for an account or purchasing a license on first launch.
Let me know if you need any more help doing that. :)
I too am blown away at the gall of the price hike. I didn't ask for the extra features (VPN), nor do I want o pay for them. I found a coupon on social stack (https://stacksocial.com/sales/dashlane-premium-3-yr-subscription?aid=a-0m8ddxmy&utm_source=cnet.com/cheapskate/&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=dashlane-premium-3-yr-subscription_050118&utm_term=scsf-286506 ) but its expired.
I activated Hotspot Shield.
The account was not created at first. After a few tries(by deleting saved VPN passwords and re-activating Hotspot Shield suggested by Dashlane Support) - although received error activating account, I was able to login to Hotspot Shield with the generated password.
However, the expires time is only 7 days. I was suggested to contact Hotspot Shield support.
From there, HS support said my account was on auto-renewal and he said the renewal should be handled by Dashlane.
I was skeptical, so I asked my colleague, who also uses Dashlane Premium, activating his account. He said the expires on his account is the same with his Dashlane Premium expires.
So what is wrong here?
Hey u/JamieTechReddit, we have partnered with Hotspot Shield to allow access to their Premium VPN service. On our web app, you can create credentials for logging into the Hotspot Shield app, check out the process here on our Help Center.
So you don’t use Dashlane at work? I get that for your particular case this may be handy, but this is really a feature that should be included in their own app. For the majority of users who do have the Dashlane Web-app on their main laptop, this is a second app we have to install separately for a feature that used to be in the main app itself. Imagine if Slack forced me to install a second app to send files, or if Zoom made me install a second app to chat participants. Like, this is a promised feature I am paying for from Dashlane. I don’t care if they use a vendor to get the feature, I shouldn’t be forced to download the vendor’s app.
I wouldn’t have a problem if they gave BOTH options with Hotspot Shield, for users like you.
Is that the same company that operates NordVPN? Weren’t they hacked/breached a couple of years ago ? Not trying to deter you from using them but I’d be wary of letting any company that has been breached recently access all of my passwords/important info.
I'm also deeply disappointed in Dashlane's web-first strategy and I hope that they will somehow reverse this decision.
I love the VPN as well even though it's just super basic in its features.
Currently, I'm looking at "NordPass" and "NordVPN" – while you have to pay for both services, they are under the umbrella of one company and you can access everything though one account via "
Anyway, NordVPN has a very good reputation and while NordPass is fairly new, I expect them to deliver. I will wait and see what Dashlane makes of it, if they can deliver: WOW! If not...
Dashlane is a good password manager, however it is a paid VPN using a free VPN's servers. Don't pay for Dashlane premium, their are open source, provacy focused password managers out there that work on all platforms for free.
Use ProtonVPN if you need a free vpn.
