Given how much stuff Bowie was attempting at the time of Diamond Dogs, I'd argue he was definitely becoming very reliant on Cocaine, if not flat-out addicted.
He was in the process of creating an entire concept album based on a novel, was in the planning stages of creating/producing a film based on that same novel(a really rough storyboard/short film created by Bowie can be found here) using music from the album, and he had also just changed up his persona with Halloween Jack.
33 1/3 is a series where writers pitch album biographies to Bloomsbury and the best ones get published. A Bowie one on Low was released back in 2005: https://www.amazon.com/David-Bowies-Low-Hugo-Wilcken/dp/0826416845
Amazon page has this listed under the very well known Bowie pseudonym Project Lawrence huh?
I spent a long time looking for some sunglasses with a similar lens shape, and I'd recommend searching on eBay and Amazon, and just scrolling page after page after page.
And as soon as you see anything that's even remotely similar to what you're looking for, note the terms (words) used in the description -- specifically that describe the shape and/or style -- and then do separate (new) searches on eBay and Amazon including those same words.
It took me 2 solid hours of searching, but I did finally find what I was looking for (on Amazon). FWIW, this isn't what you're looking for, but here's what I ended up buying...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HHC3WJE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just did a lot of searches, over several days, until I realized that as soon as I found anything even half-close, to start using the words in the description of that, and "re-search" using those same words.
It's one of the greatest songs of all time. On RateYourMusic.com, the community voted it as the 2nd best single of all time. It has to win.
It would appear that way ya. Here's a link to the amazon page of it. It sounds pretty interesting actually, I may have to check it out.
There seem to be two bands with the "Serpent Power" title. One from 1966 and then a current band. Looks like this song is from the latter.
Jim Rakete featured on the episode for Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown episode in Berlin. Jim Rakete took a picture of Anthony Bourdain too
https://edition.cnn.com/videos/travel/2018/06/05/explore-parts-unknown-berlin-ron-5.cnn
When Bowie featured on Anthony Bourdain, i said "FINALLY!"
Wow, thanks for posting this. I can't go to see, and I really wanted to. Oddly enough, it was just last night I internet-stumbled on that album list, poring over it in the wee hours wishing I could follow, links and listen...alas a snoozing spouse made that impractical. Edited to add the link to the list, with links to the music, and Bowie's take on each selection: http://www.openculture.com/2016/01/david-bowie-lists-the-25-favorite-lps-in-his-record-collection-stream-most-of-them-free-online.html
No blue rays, just one DVD. It also includes the RCA analogue master that was used for the first CD issues, which are pretty valuable collector's items now.
https://www.amazon.com/Station-Deluxe-5CD-DVD-3LP/dp/B003UTUQ3O
I happen to own this. Looked at it once and then resealed it. It fulfills it's need just by being there. :)
It's about a 10lb book that contains a whole lot of photographs of Bowie throughout the years. Here's a link to the book on Amazon if you want a look
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1788840968/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_gpt3Fb9VEMHFB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Dang, no track-times posted yet. Here it is on Amazon (the MP3 listing, which I thought sure would have the track-times, even if the CD didn't yet)...
I wouldnt say its a biography in the truest form but i would suggest "David Bowie: The Golden Years" by Roger Griffin, it came out last December. Its a coffee table book but gives a account of David almost day by day from January 1 1970- December 31 1979. It has some nice photos in there and like i haven't gone threw it fully but i will sometimes go to a few random pages to see what he was doing during that time. this is the url to the amazon listing for it https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Years-David-Bowie/dp/1468310690/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513224596&sr=8-1&keywords=david+bowie+the+golden+years
Yeah, same... Maybe I need the newest version of Android, I think I'm on 8.0
Edit: Yeah, if checking this page, it says my phone is not compatible (you need to be logged in to Google)
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/s/david+bowie/_/N-1z141utZ8qi?_requestid=1536108
Thats the link given on the website, doesn't look right.
EDIT: FOUND IT http://store.davidbowie.com/blackstar/blackstar-clear-vinyl-lp-limited-edition.html
I’ve read quite a few (Dylan Jones, David Buckley, the Mike Allred graphic novel) but “The Complete David Bowie” by Nicholas Pegg is hands down the best. It’s almost 900 pages and can be read straight through or used to just reference specific times or incidents. It’s had several editions so it’s always up to date and gives you the base facts in great detail without falling into waxing poetic or getting into unfounded author’s interpretations.
Thanks so much! I found doing gesture drawings have really loosened up my strokes: https://youtu.be/74HR59yFZ7Y
Then I would say just try not to think about what or how you are drawing if that makes. I used to have a very rigid way of laying down my strokes due to overthinking and not being confident and that energy does really come through. I try to get the image down as fast and almost as violently I can.
Do ugly sketches everyday. I know this is what everyone says but it's the truth. But not everything has to be a work of art. I really tried to suspend that belief when I started posting these types of drawings to social media.
Invest in some ink pens and especially ink brush pens : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pentel-Pocket-Brush-Refills-GFKP3BPA/dp/B002LJRKN8
And lastly I would say just have fun. I know for me if it's not fun I won't do it lol.
OK SO what I did (I am in the US) is I activated a VPN (NordVPN) on my phone, logged out of spotify, made a new account, took the premium trial, and now I can hear it.
Also, if anyone else needs it, I have it uploaded as unlisted, dm me for the link, but its going down once the song is streaming in most places.
Edit: It is available in the US, I’ll leave my vid up until tomorrow though.
I'm only seeing the CD currently but I only checked Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Moonage-Daydream-Brett-Morgen-Film/dp/B0BBSFG3RZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=1NZQPH6BYCIHL&keywords=moonage+daydream+cd&qid=1666732676&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIwLjI4IiwicXNhIjoiMC4xNSIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=moonage+d...
Obviously all art is subjective, but Bowie is a lot more subjective than most. Generally, subjectivity is where you get a line like "the man walked through the door", and the discussion is about why the man walked through the door. Is he coming home from work? Is he hiding from someone? Is he running from the police? Is he the police? Is the door real or a metaphor for death? Ultimately though, you know one thing: the man walked through the door.
A lot of Bowie stuff is just plain weird by design. A lot of his songs were made by literally cutting up words and rearranging them until they sounded good. An example, I woke up this morning with his song Heat stuck in my head. This song... makes no sense. You have to make it make sense to you, otherwise you'll get nothing out of it, and what makes sense to you will not make sense to anyone else.
This is part of why Bowie people love him so much. There are infinite ways you can interpret any song. So you could ask for songs grouped by theme, but you'll get a million different answers because it's just not that clear cut.
If you like occult-y things, I guess you'll be into darker stuff, so I'd suggest starting with Outside. That actually attempts to tell a coherent story in the form of an album about a gang who create artwork from corpses, and the detective who investigates a murder that they may or may not have committed. The Next Day is also very dark - at least two of the songs from that album were given to the murderer Valentine in the musical Lazarus which was Bowie's last ever project.
" In 1977, just a short month before Bing Crosby died of a heart attack, the 40s crooner hosted David Bowie, the glam rocker, on his Christmas show. " http://www.openculture.com/2014/12/david-bowie-bing-crosby-sing-the-little-drummer-boy-1977.html
I was gifted https://www.amazon.com/David-Bowie-All-Songs-Behind/dp/0762474718 this some time ago. Really nice in case you want to read everything about Never Let Me Down (and Scary Monsters! And Low! etc.)
Thx for the advice… I also thought about maybe getting one of these instead Amscan 840306 Adult Vampire Black Full-Length Cape, 1ct https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UKHVPKC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_8XMDTRSP310QE85TJ7SC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s a little weird to post an affiliate link. Here is a direct link to the page (also it’s listed as 5p cheaper than what you claim)
Paul Trynka's Starman is excellent.
Trynka also wrote what are basically the definitive biographies of Iggy Pop & Brian Jones, as well.
Aw damn that sucks :( I often bought CDs there which were always in good condition, luckily! If you're interested, here's the link . The DVD can be put in English and there's a second disc of bonus interviews, bts material and a documentary about the lost Bowie soundtrack too!
Looks great!! For Those of you who said that it would be great to have a whole deck, there is one created by Davide De Angelis, who collaborated on the artwork for Earthling.
https://smile.amazon.com/Starman-Tarot-Kit-Davide-Angelis/dp/0738759821?sa-no-redirect=1
Yeah that one was a surprise for me, too. I used this list for reference in making the playlist.
Literally available on Amazon, new, sold by Amazon. And for even cheaper from 3rd party sellers.
What are you on about?
It is a Sony Servo Loc PS-FL1 from the late 1980's. It has a tray that opens and closes. I love it!

Nice, I’m gonna buy myself this Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-GM Turntable with Logitech Z323 Satellite Speaker System and Knox Gear Vinyl Brush Cleaner Bundle (3 Items) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08V92MV54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JCPD88MK1H1K1WM1XM4Z?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The only one I have is the Icon one. It's huge and has some great photos in it, some I've never seen before. Also, man that book is HEAVY lol.
Amazon has it on DVD, and it comes with audio as well. Unless they sold out . . . . https://www.amazon.com/Glastonbury-2000-2CD-David-Bowie/dp/B07HX8RCZ8
That is around the price. But I found Amazon selling it for 15 out pounds or 19 dollars. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Low-2017-Remastered-Version-VINYL/dp/B0791Z1T2Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?adgrpid=52854707693&hvadid=259114318761&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=20479&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=14281705603967859278&hvtargid=...
Also: There’s actually 2 different listings of this album on amazon. This one has better reviews but it’s a lot more expensive. So does anyone know if This one is different to the other listing that has terrible reviews?
David Bowie: The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (180g) Vinyl LP https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CGR6RTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_T4HKEb2AB2ZR7
This is the best book from the published ones I've checked out. It doesn't have every song from Ziggy but it does have a lot of other songs from that era, including Life on Mars and Aladdin Sane.
I guess it depends on what you're expecting - they're pretty standard CD booklets.
If you're looking for something more special, I'm afraid the only option is the full A New Career in a New Town box set. It's a lot more expensive, but it contains the same 2017 remasters, and they're all packaged in replicas of the original vinyl sleeves, including reproductions of original lyric sheets. The box also includes a little hardcover book featuring photos, original handwritten notes by David, information on the recording etc. They don't include the lyrics for all the albums though - just the ones where the original vinyl release came with a lyric sheet. So you get lyrics for "Heroes", Lodger and Scary Monsters, but not for Low.
Platinum Collection is what I started with years ago and still think it was an absolutely great starting point.
Painfully expensive on Amazon, maybe set up an automated search on eBay to alert you whenever new ones get added there.
Can't tell you what one would be worth to you, but it is a really great disc, and every bit as good as the Beeb 2000 BBC show (which is a lot easier to track down, though also technically limited).
I Thoroughly recommend reading this little gem, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Outside-tribute-graphic-detective-inspired/dp/1537177443/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1491574878&sr=1-1&keywords=David+Bowie+outside
Derp! Sorry about this; I can only find the kindle. I know that the physical book exists, since my mom has a copy. I will keep looking, 'cause now it's bugging me. But here is a link where you can see the cover. https://www.amazon.com/Things-Never-Told-David-Bowie-ebook/dp/B01LLWOEPW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473307169&sr=8-1&keywords=things+i+never+told+david+bowie#nav-subnav
Edit: Looks like this pulls up the paperback, too. Double-derp.
They did release his debut in 2010. Here's the Deluxe Version on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/David-Bowie-2-CD-Deluxe/dp/B002W1GCX4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470855480&sr=8-1&keywords=david+bowie+david+bowie
I would recommend renting it on Amazon, though it's not the Criterion version, so it's not as good.
I feel like links to free online streams might not be allowed because of illegalness..?
I recently bought the Criterion DVD on ebay, and love having a hard copy, so you could look for that if you wanted to own it. Unfortunately, it's out of production, but it's possible that Criterion might do another run of it now...
I once had a piano book of Bowie songs that looked like the 'Best of Bowie year-year'. It's written as sheet music.
Also useful and well organized for learning Bowie songs, but mostly chords and guitar tabs: lovebolts
Vinyl preorder. Can't find the clear vinyl anywhere
