I got one of these fidget rings from Amazon that help me discreetly keep my hands busy while at work! When I'm at home, I keep stress balls where I read and watch TV so I can pick one or two up with my free hand/hands.

You can also try using the app SkinPick, which helps you become more aware of the situations and triggers that cause you to pick so you can try consciously replacing those behaviors. You have to really commit to it, but it's a great tool since it uses the basic principles of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and is specifically designed for Dermatillomania.

I recently bought these silicone finger covers and the way they feel is almost therapeutic. Also it keeps my fingers out of my hair, where I pick at my scalp.
My boyfriend had an athlete’s foot for 6 years until I bought this natural remedy for him: Natureet Athletes Foot Cream – Natural and Effective Anti-Itch Cream with Tea Tree Oil - Formulated for Athletes Foot - Relief Peeling, Itching Skin and Odor - 1 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095Z35QQC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6FJY3928T4W9NG9ZV6M4 it worked great and he healed his feet in 30 days or so. I highly recommend if you want to get rid of athletes foot forever. His feet is clear for almost 2 years now. He tried all kinda stuff, and nothing would work.
I got some silicone finger cots, I started out putting them on my thumb or first finger depending on the day, but they made my fingers sweaty. I now squish them together. It at least keeps my hands busy.
These are the ones I got https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H11S3MZ/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o04\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003H6D7SQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_V7T9CT28196BSQTR3CSF
This is MAGIC. I mean, maybe not magic but it does give that pressure under the nail feeling. It's very very hard and has a great resistance to it when you pick it
I feel you. Liquid bandages suck. Something that works for me is paraffin wax. You can get it on Amazon. REVLON Moisturizing Paraffin Bath for Smooth and Soft Skin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ZWEW1S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MHSJ5PVK9XS46EHMSXGD
I sleep with it on with gloves and my skin is soft and smooth when I wake up. Of course, during the day it dries back out and gets crumbly but it definitely helps me. Wishing you relief and luck. ❤️
You could try this stuff! It doesn't smell or burn and removes hair super well. I feel so smooth after. It can be a little messy to mix up, so I'd recommend a squeeze bottle of some sort to shake it in.
I got mine on amazon and it’s the band-aid brand. I forgot to mention they’re also called hydro seal bandages. Here’s the link:
Band-Aid Brand Hydro Seal Extra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077TN7L3R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Im sure you could also find them at any drugstore. Hope it helps!
They help me a ton! They provide me a physical barrier so that I dont touch or pick certain bad spots, and they also lock in moisture and so the pick spot heals faster. If you like them, I highly recommend looking instead for hydrocolloid bandages that are marketed for wound and burne care. Its the exact same thing as the little round stickers for pimples, but They are cheaper and they come in larger sheets that I personally just cut to the right size, and for whatever reason they dont fall off as easy as some of the other little pimple stickers I've tried. I get these ones on Amazon, they are about the size of normal bandaids :) https://www.amazon.com/All-Health-Advanced-Healing-Regular/dp/B07D1CT9DX/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=hydrocolloid+bandages&qid=1604952731&sr=8-3
I’ve used some from Amazon that I like. They’re okay for acne but great as a barrier to keep me from picking.
These are the ones I use: COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch 96... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014SAB948?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I’m not an expert but I do mine basically in the dark at night, you don’t really need light to wash and moisturize or even exfoliate or do a mask, you don’t really need to see your face. I use one of these in my bathroom and it’s just enough to be able to see my products and my hands. All the time. I ended up buying a spinner ring (like this one but I bought it at a store) that I wear pretty much 24/7. This one works really well for me because I can dig my fingernails into it and "pick" at the ring. It also just gives my hands something to do when I'm sitting in meetings or watching TV and would otherwise have idle hands.
this one made my picking go to constant to very very minimal https://www.amazon.com/Chemstar-Decompression-Anxiety-Relieves-Children/dp/B07HYWMHZS/ref=sr_1_45?dchild=1&keywords=fidget+ring&qid=1599598346&sr=8-45
Have you ever gotten gel or acrylic nails put on? They look nice, they're way too strong to bite through, and the ends are too rounded and thick to pick with.
I got an acrylic nails kit (this one) and learned to do them myself by watching this video. It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and totally worth it - my legs are completely clear now.
I wear one of these pretty much 24/7. I like the chain style because I can hook my fingernails into the links and "pick" at the ring. I got it somewhat cheaper, though, from a souvenir shop on a beach vacation about two years ago.
Personally I really like this one ! I don’t like the cubes (they’re too clunky? idk) but this one is tiny and can go around your finger. Definitely browse on Amazon to see what you think will work for you :)
This is the industry standard as for acne patches goes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014SAB948/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.r4IEbBBSA4P9
I get them from Amazon but due to the pandemic now it might get to you a bit longer than normal.
Cotton finger cots (like these EuroTool Cotton Finger Guards... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OV98P9E?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) can help. I wear them when I’m more likely to pick. Also massaging aloe vera into my scalp the night before I wash helps with dryness.
If you haven’t yet, I’d also suggest seeing a doctor. Anti-anxiety meds may help. They could also have something to help with dandruff and dryness.
I decided to try an aloe hair mask recently and it seems to have helped. I just worked the aloe Vera through my hair and on my scalp before bed and then washed it in the morning. It helped a lot with the dryness, so there’s less for me to pick. I also bought a bunch of cotton finger cots (like this: EuroTool Cotton Finger Guards... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OV98P9E?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) to wear on my fingers when I’m most likely to pick, which has also helped.
my cover uo method is using a pimple patch :) they tend to blur the whole thing out and it looks smooth, the brand I buy is this here
these “finger massager” rings have been the only truly effective fidget thingie to stop me picking so far.
pros: • cheap as dirt.
• easy to use but discreet enough that it’s not screaming looks it’s a fidget thingie!
• can be used while doing daily activities like working, driving, on the go, wherever
cons: • the feeling can be kind of weird, some ppl might feel it’s too aggressive?
• sometimes they break easily
i’m sorrry i don’t know how to format that list better on my phone haha
I like this brand bc they're tight but comfy and have a ton of styles. I go for turtlenecks so I can't get to chest/shoulders too
lots of vaseline and socks overnight! also if i pick my soles until it literally hurts to walk, dermoplast saves me every time. https://www.amazon.com/Dermoplast-Antiseptic-Prevent-Infection-Scrapes/dp/B073PB98T5
Ok so my skin has never been the best since I hit puberty. I am currently 20 years old and have now amazing skin. My skin as a teenager living in Arizona was always dry and flaky, no matter how much moisturizers I would apply it would only help temporarily. I went to the dermatologist and he had solutions but none were really effective. So what I did was take the matter into my own hands and did some research to overcome the dryness of my skin. What I found was Silk rehydrates your skins due to the amino acids in it. So I thought to my self I should seriously consider the benefits of using a silk product when sleeping. I bought a Silk Sleep-mask and a Silk Pillowcase. The benefits were huge! With the combination of moisturizer and my Silk products my face would be hydrated throughout the day and not look flaky in the morning. I highly recommend the the Silk Sleep Mask because of how it is directly on your face but I also recommend the pillow case for more support.
This is the link for the Silk Sleep Mask I bought- https://www.amazon.com/Luxe-Silk-Sleep-Luxury-Natural/dp/B0B9JFHT53/?\_encoding=UTF8&pd\_rd\_w=8IgoY&content-id=amzn1.sym.8cf3b8ef-6a74-45dc-9f0d-6409eb523603&pf\_rd\_p=8cf3b8ef-6a74-45dc-9f0d-6409eb523603&pf\_rd\_r=9YCQJRR1V68HHV8...
I cant remember the exact brand for pillow case but watch out some brands may try to sell you satin and not silk. That is why I linked that mask because the other one I bought felt weird.
These are great for summer:) They don’t cover your whole head but the majority is covered. I love these for summer🫶🏻
I recommend these springy ‘rings’ as a place to start: they’re small, quiet, and are very tactile so they keep my fingers “entertained”!
Their actually is! I usually use the hydroseal banages on my scars which helps fasten the healing time hydroseal bandaid banages. Should work on your scabs. I also usually some no name hydrocolloid bandages that work just as well for scabs and scars and they hold up well with water too.
These are similar to what I got. Discovered yesterday that you can just buy the water beads separately as well, orbeez or water beads. You can get them easily online and at garden supply stores, people use them for decorations or for passive watering.
Good luck with the inositol. It didn't cure me by any means, but makes it much easier to resist the compulsion to pick or to stop before doing too much damage. It's a supplement, so easily obtainable like NAC.
I bought a multipack from Amazon that was marketed for picking, but can't find the exact one. But honestly a brew supply/fermenting shop or craft shop would probably have them as well. They're discreet and I can shred them while on video or phone calls which is super helpful. https://www.amazon.com/Owevvin-Tapered-Premium-Stoppers-Replacement/dp/B08F76G79T/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1OAEJ7MELNJJT&keywords=corks+for+skin+picking&qid=1657373764&sprefix=corks+for+skin+picking%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-4
Im sorry! Stress can make it so much worse. I found the fidget rings were good in public situations especially.
Ahaha, yup.
But these help! So much they I tell everyone about them. As soon as you scratch one or notice you got bit- bam! Slap one of these on. Gone in a day or 2. 👌 Depends on your area but I can get them delivered same day.

Be diligent and have a plan. Step by step, don’t stray. Once you’re done, get out and get dressed. No mirrors, don’t even examine your skin. Once you’re all healed up, consider a Korean exfoliating mitt with only water to use after you bathe to prevent anything that might become pick-able. There’s no reason to complicate things. Complicated Routines, multiple products, too much focus on it and too much to think about will make it difficult to stay diligent. Be easy on yourself! It’s not as uncommon as you think! Nobody just wants to admit it.

this is super soothing and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling
another option (this is what i do) is to buy some acrylic nails off amazon, and i just file them down to the size/shape that i want which is usually really short, and then paint them and use some nail glue and put them on myself! that way they're exactly the length i like. or you could just glue them on and then file them down to the size/shape, and then paint them, the order doesn't matter!
Ooh looking it up..I found this..for bumpy dry skin..not sure if this one works as well AmLactin KP Bumps Be Gone Hydrating Cream, Moisturizing Cream For Rough and Bumpy Dry Skin, 3 Oz Tube https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09X9GJ57N/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_HJK0M0MEPF241NWZJTAT
for me a live saver is slapping a ton of aquaphor on wherever im picking (you can put it on the scalp just make sure its not thick to where people can see it looks like untouched hair gel!)
the texture of putting my hands fingers and nails on the scabs/skin with aquaphor FEELS AWFUL and it always drives me away personally. if not aquaphor, I use those acne patches (I reccommend using a HUGE patch like this Care Science Hydrocolloid, Extra Large | 100% Waterproof Seal Promotes Up to 2X Faster Healing, Reduces Scarring, Drug-Free Pain Relief (4 in x 4 in, 3CT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QKFX2CL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0J8HG3HCV8QP2MF2W04D?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I didnt find myself picking at the corners of them (because I want skin and scabs specifically) but hopefully these can help someone else or you if you pick elsewhere. I dont think a big patch on your head would be helpful
I wear a bonnet nightly and also wear it around during the day when I'm at home or just in my neighborhood to help keep me from picking. I'm white. It was actually recommended to me by my hair stylist who is black as a way to keep my curls from drying out, which it is great for, but now I'm mostly wearing it to protect my scalp. I really like this one and think it's super comfortable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XPT13QK?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_5HXRPBBX6BQM6K212X4X

I’ve been using this. It covers everything and my face is a war zone right now.
I had a friend recently recommend buying a scalp massager. She said it has made her scalp picking completely stop! Here’s a link
My ''ball'' is an Obus Forme one. It's malleable, so there's something satisfying about playing with it. Also just nice to hold it in one hand. I also make a fist for a few seconds when I don't have my ''ball'' (I love calling it that haha). Holding something in my hand is the most useful trick for me.
My favourite picking area has always been my fingers. I'm typing on my keyboard right now, and if I pause for 2 seconds, my hands will automatically go in a ''picking'' position''. I really pick all. the. time. to the point where it's unnatural for me not to pick. Anyway, instead of picking, I'll just stroke or gently push on my ''target area''. Moisturizing helps too, I really pick less (at anything really) when the skin has been pampered. Also, just doing something else helps, like washing the dishes, stretching, and petting kitty.
But the most effective method for me was switching from a 'shame' attitude to a proactive one. I'm so fucking fed up with picking. I'm fed up with leaving bloodmarks on everything I touch, little bits of skin everywhere, my fingertips being completely insensitive, being disfugured by swelling. I don't give a single fuck about shame anymore honestly. I just find ways, very in-the-moment, reality-anchored ways to deal with it. Obviously I still pick, but these methods give me something to fall back on. Find whatever works for you.
Sorry! Hadn't posted originally because I didn't want to seem like I was spamming.

Finger “cots”!
I don’t use my nails to pick at my skin - I use my finger pads to rub. But it leads to the same outcome: massive open sores all over my face, chest, and back. Even if I completely ripped off my nails, my issue wouldn’t be solved. (And I’d have no nails..)
These finger tips are what help me so much. I hate wearing any kind of regular gloves and sometimes I require using my fingers for typing, in which case I can leave only one or tip finger tips exposed for use.
This is the stuff. It has 4.5 stars on amazon. I honestly haven’t used it in a while and still haven’t had any flaking since (I would remember because the nail flakes are SO satisfying to remove for me, I absolutely love it. I bought the product though because I wanted stronger healthier looking nails. Am very satisfied with the purchase!
I got these two so far.

I have one of these face exfoliator thingys and it's a fantastic fidget toy that I think helps me
Taking a lot of these suggestions! Can also vouch for knitting and crocheting! Get to make something cool while fidgeting and avoiding picking at the same time.
One I suggest is playing video games, even just something on your phone. I also have one of those bubble pop silicone toys and I like it! Here’s a link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Y7L9KB4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1BYBT4VRGN2NK27CPWTC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I just got these little wire rings, they’re sorta spiky and you can roll them down your fingers. I actually have avoided picking for three whole weeks with them!! And they’re small and subtle. Good luck!

Look into HOCl. it is what the skin naturally produces to heal itself. I found an inexpensive version recommended by a doctor on Amazon BRIOTECH Topical Skin Spray, Pure HOCl, Tattoo & Piercing Aftercare, Sea Salt Cleansing Solution, Natural Saline Toner, Hypochlorous Acid Facial Mist, Skin Care Relief for Bumps Scars & Blemishes https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07T4JKMKD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_W7N92BNFFPNBJ7CMKHZN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It is not a miracle cure but seems to really aid healing quickly and no stinging or burning which always draws my attention to the spot and can make mindless picking worse....I find it works best for me if sprayed in a cotton and swiped over the affected area.
ME TOO OMG I DO THE SAME THING Actually I like to buy the cheaper versions and I think they work just as well as the expensive versions, heres some good ones:

Same! Acrylic nails help so much. Careful of any manicure sets around the house, I used to hide those from my husband so I could still pick even with fake nails. Not sure if anyone’s already touched on pain management? But I was wondering if she has any pain taking showers? I did with all of my leg scratching. Amazon has these covers that really helped me to heal and relax in the shower without cringing in pain from water hitting open sores.
Water Proof Foot Cast Cover for Shower
Ice packs are really useful too to make the area numb when I’m in so much pain with open sores as well. Hope this helps. You’re doing a great job being sensitive to your wife’s needs!
I have a chain spinner ring that I got years ago (like this one) that I wear almost all the time. Some people do well with fidget cubes, spinners, tangle toys; some people just keep a small piece of fabric with an uneven hem to run under their fingernails. It can be a very personal thing. If you have a Target near you, they tend to have a lot of good options for decent prices. Find something that strikes your fancy that you can mindlessly fiddle with one-handed.
Maybe not a pain “relief” but coping mechanism- I buy large hydrocolloid patches and cut them (or just leave them if it’s extensive enough) to fit any areas I’ve picked at and they cushion really well to protect the raw skin and ease some of the discomfort.
I really like these: All Health All Health Advanced Fast Healing Hydrocolloid Gel Bandages, Regular 20 ct | 2X Faster Healing for First Aid Blisters or Wound Care, 20 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D1CT9DX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_G26J7G48VBBB49NZMZ71

Yes the super glue has been a huge savior for me!! I also bought one of those dead skin cell brushes (I have this one but there are a ton of options) which I’ll use to brush off dead skin cells and it definitely evens out my skin a lot more, meaning less to pick at. Then I’ll do the moisturizer thing
Eucerin Roughness Relief Cream | Body Moisturizer for Rough & Bumpy Skin | Urea Enriched Body Cream| Fragrance Free
This stuff right here is a godsend. When I (remember to) use it, my skin feels so much smoother the next day.
I’m working on this very thing! I also do it all the time and have yet to find a total fix. These are my tools and what I’m working on: 1. Finger sleeves that work with touch screens. My biggest struggle is remembering to put them on when I start picking. These are just one of many options on Amazon 2. I’ve asked my partner to tell me when I’m doing it. I’m often in a daze or doing it absentmindedly. When attention is brought to it, it stops me at least temporarily, and gets me in the habit of recognizing the behavior. 3. Self-care after I’ve picked. I’ll apply neosporin and bandaids, if needed. 4. I’ll try and wait 30 seconds when I want to pick. If I make it through 30 seconds, sometimes I can do another 30. And so on. Maybe one day I’ll get up to minutes and hours!
My therapist has also recommended writing down every time I do it, what my mood was like, what I was doing, etc. Since it’s near constant for me, and for you, this isn’t plausible yet, but could be a great tool after we make progress. For now, the time thing is a good start!
I do also occasionally get my nails done, which calms the picking and biting for at least a few days. It doesn’t take it away, but it does reduce it.
I hope this helps, you’re not alone! Let me know if you find any other methods that work for you!
The ones I've been using look like this.
There is an open bit for fingernails on these ones, but I've also seen them without. I was a bit worried about that, but they stil seem to cover my trigger areas enough to let them heal.
You might also be able to find the closed finger ones at an office supply store.
Hope it helps :)
I think this is the one I got 😄 it only has 1 of the toys but there are other products of the same toy but in packs of 3,5, etc.
It is not cheap but I have really only found success from the R+Co Crown Scalp Scrub. A scalp scrub is used in the shower about 2x a week instead of shampoo and really helps to soothe and heal my scalp. T-Gel and other shampoos have sometimes made me even itchier, while this scrub Took away the itchiness and irritation. I would also check out Selsun blue shampoo to use with this scrub. Here’s the link—I would highly recommend it. Good luck.

i use grease monkey gorilla gloves. i struggle with picking the skin around my fingers until they bleed. the gloves are thin enough to use a keyboard and do most things around the house. hard to use smart phone with them on. i ended up cutting a hole in the thumb to use my phone...then i ended up chewing up my thumb! :)

This has really helped me. I cut them with sterile scissors, and they are very water proof. It keeps the wound moist, with less chance of scarring. I barely feel it on my face, and I put it on a wound on my ankle.
I love the other COSRX patches (https://www.amazon.com/COSRX-Clear-Master-Patch-Patches/dp/B076DDR998). I actually wear them during the day, specifically to keep myself from absentmindedly picking at spots on my face. Barely noticeable—especially on zooms, etc—and I have even worn them out of the house a few times. Have also successfully put makeup over them. They are thinner than the Master Patches.
I buy the shampoo through ulta, they also have a website you could order it through there. Yeah I just mix the aloe Vera and shampoo in my hand and it still lathers and cleans well! The aloe Vera I use is a little bit more watery/less thickener and I buy it through Amazon:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06W2KWZ37/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_fabt1_qZRQFbSPGGBNE
I just got these and I love the feel of them.
Boo boo cover up concealer on amazon. It's actually okay for open wounds!
I'm 17 too, and I totally relate. I'm not sure what you skin type is, but I would highly recommend witch hazel (either cleansing pads or Humphrey's lavender witch hazel) and this watermelon gel moisturizer (i forgot what it's called) as far as the picking, I still don't totally have mine under control, but here are some things that have helped me and other folks like us. - i dunno wtf they're called, but finger socks. Either knitted or silicone or whatever you want. These are the ones I got, I wore them to bed and whenever I felt the urge to pick. - another thing is fidget toys, idk if they work for everyone, but they're nice. I'll link some ones I recommend - liquid latex and peel off masks. These fuckers satisfy some urge deep inside of me and i can't recommend them enough. Im into sfx, so I work with liquid latex regularly, and it's fantastic. I make fake wounds and pimples and boils, and then I peel them off. If you check out my profile you'll see what im talking about. Even if you don't wanna do sfx, making just a layer or liquid latex on your skin (I usually do thighs or inner arm, just somewhere without hair) wait for it to dry and peel it off. Same with the peel masks, just don't do your face, it makes the urge worse. Totally feel free to pm me, I'd love to talk and try to help.
TL;DR - finger socks - fidget toys - sfx makeup
I've had wonderful experiences using these! I find the thumb hole gelps because it's even more difficult then to get to my arms. Wow some of those are really great. I purchased a Fidgeto bracelet on Amazon and I literally wear it and play with it ALL day. Also, at the recommendation of another person on this sub, I purchased a Worry Bird on Etsy. I requested one with a lot of textures and the seller was able to accommodate. It's super cute. Good luck!
I’ve used these hydrocolloid bandaids and they work wonderfully, it healed my worst picking spot very well. Here’s the amazon link: JJ CARE [Pack of 10] Thin Hydrocolloid Dressing Without Border 4" x 4", Colloidal Patches, Sterile Adhesive Patches Bandages, Wound Dressing & Bed Sore Pads for Advanced Healing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q8QNZPF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_egdvFbEHSXC8V
I like the acne patches by Rael, available on Amazon. Rael Acne Pimple Healing Patch - Microneedle Acne Spot
I use more of the microneedle spots than the healing patches, which can be a downside since there's only 9 for $12.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this! Here are a few products that have greatly helped me, and I hope will do some good for you. They’re relatively cheap on Amazon and at makeup stores like Sephora. I use these dots here. They’ve helped me out a lot. When I have a new pimple, I put one of the dots on, and it protects it so I do not pick and it will heal much faster. I had a bunch of scars on my face from picking, but my dermatologist recommended that I use Azelaic Acid. I’ve put on a little of this cream every night for the past few weeks and my scars are almost gone. Remember to moisturize, and to make sure your cuts do not become infected! You can get through this.
OP my thumbs look just like that. I got these finger covers and they are pretty nice. Much better than the latex tiny condom looking ones from the drug store, and way more comfortable. I’ll share a link at the bottom, these keep me from scratching my fingers to bits and biting.
