When my Doberman was between 1 and 3 years old, I had a Walky Dog on my bike and we'd go on rides multiple days a week. It was the perfect way for her to release her energy. She absolutely loved it and still gets excited when she sees a bike to this day. My only words of advice is to be mindful of the wear and tear running on concrete can do to joints. My girl is 10 now and has arthritis and leg tremors that's being treated with Gabapentin and Tramadol.
Like I said, I’ve done my research and I know what I’m doing. It might look big in the picture but it’s really not. I bought it off amazon and checked the tags just to make sure. This has a low setting. Start with the dremmel running with the lid on and rub dog give treats. Work in that while rubbing dog. Then touch nail for no more than three seconds at a time. It has a low setting including it is quiet compared to others I have tried.
This brush doesn't look like much, but does it ever work well. I too have a single-coated dog and every other type of brush and mitt I tried he hated and was not that effective. The amount of hair I swept and vacuumed up could have been used to knit three large dogs and a Chihuahua after a week! After using this brush, the hair problem is negligible, mostly because he just stands there and enjoys me brushing him. The video in the Amazon description is not an exaggeration, it really does work that well!
Don't have any recommendations on shampoo, sorry.

Try Rescue Remedy! It has been a real help for all of my pets during stressful times.
It’s homeopathic, & it actually works like a charm. I had an older dog that I was giving prescribed painkillers, but this is the magic juice that helped ease him. Give it a shot! It works on us too! 🤗❤️

Looks great but the 2 prongs on the buckle are pretty flimsy and some comments suggest it won't hold an aggressive puller. I have had no issues with it.
I've tried all kinds of things and the prong collar is the only thing that has worked with my dogs to keep them from pulling. They've gotten used to them over time. My girl still shies away from it a bit, but in the end they think a walk with a prong collar is better than no walk at all. They know where the end of the leash is and we all enjoy our walk.
One thing to be aware of, prong collars can come apart! Now I use a Keeper Collar and don't have to worry about that any longer.
I've tried many collars\harnesses\gentle leader types of things for all of my pullers over the years.
The only thing that has worked is this Keeper collar. It's a prong collar with a fabric outer covering. I've had a normal uncovered prong collar come apart at a very inconvenient time, the outer covering prevents that.
Harnesses were made for dogs to pull, so they're kinda useless for preventing pulling IMO. The front latch harnesses never worked for us either, as the dogs would just back out of them. Gentle leaders just annoyed my dogs at best, drove them absolutely mad at worst.
The Keeper collar allows me to walk both of my dobies at the same time, with both leashes in one hand. They still pull like bulls if I take them somewhere without the Keeper - we only use it for walks, so every once in a while we'll take a short trip without it.
I only see 2 posts about your dogs. One is this post, the other is about some metalwork. I will doubt your years of experience because of how ridiculous you sound. Good ownership isn’t just health checking- literally no insurance plans health-check very 3 months. Good ownership and breeding is, breed to the standard, breeding healthy dogs, and breeding mentally sound dogs. Good ownership isn’t just slamming a giant poor fitting prong collar on your dog either, here’s a link to a herm-springer collar, maybe something you might consider purchasing because you are a good owner of course, here.
Get these and put them on the door. Every time you notice the pup needing to go let them out. Also during training tell them ring the bells to go outside. They’ll figure it out in literally 2 days.
This liquid supplement for dogs is good for putting weight on
It was the one thing that made the difference with my younger dog! Still isn’t working for my older girl, mostly because the treats she CAN have aren’t yummy enough to get or keep her attention (food allergies).
If you want to make the peanut butter strategy work even better, you could get the syringe caps your dog’s vaccines come in (if your vet doesn’t have extras, you can buy them on Amazon here), and fill them with peanut butter before freezing them. This lets your dog continuously lick, which will help the first several walks. Then you can move to the small silicone shampoo bottles. Just make sure to take more than one on a walk - you’d be surprised how dedicated and FAST your dog can be to get every bit of peanut butter out.
you could try some of those puzzle enrichment toys, kind of the same concept of hide and fetch, but she has to actively problem solve. or maybe try so low level agility. i may not be the best help as i haven’t had a dog with neurological issues but i know that these 2 things my doberman enjoys and are sometimes relaxing for him.
The prong I understand since it’s harder to fit with the links, but if your ecollar is doing that, it’s too loose. It should be tight enough only two fingers fit.
I’d recommended a longer training leadhttps://www.chewy.com/downtown-pet-supply-training-dog-lead/dp/174699?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12650402586&utm_content=Downtown%20Pet%20Supply&utm_term=&gbraid=0AAAAAC3guyVgcAWgLLFGc1RjRKAZh0Jcb&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyOuYBhCGARIsAIdGQRNq483KjGA4xx5VBjoVjQXPaOwo7QnlxHoP5rtTbl1qRjEmMXo_iFcaAmCPEALw_wcB. It might be less convenient to shorten, but definitely safer. Especially with a strong dog like our dobes.
My last pup (GSD) made it to 13 but had some issues in the final 18 months. The items that got us the most quality time were:
Walk-Easy homeopathic - this stuff is pup crack they love it so much
Galliprant pain reliever. One of the better NSAIDS that has some long-term use concerns (5+ years) that are likely not an issue.
10:1 CBD:THC drops - using these helped relax the constant tension that my pups muscles were in. Not all dogs respond to THC the same way, so if you go this route start conservatively, adding as you go.
I’m sorry you’re facing this, but SO happy you’ve gotten as much time as you have 🥲
Kongs are the only toy that actually holds up for my dobe (he's a strong chewer), But he gets bored of them because he knows he can't chisel anything away.
The only other toy he absolutely loves is the Bionic chew toys (this one)
They are really strong but a little bit of give to them so after hours of chewing he is able to get some of the rubber off, but that is how he gets his entertainment.
Get a raised bed. A raised bed provides a very clear picture of where they are supposed to be. Before adding real world distractions like meals and cooking, train a place command . You can add a leash to the training and you can work your way up to adding distractions. Treat liberally while the dog is getting used to the concept especially when you start to leave them and focus on something else. The bed can go anywhere that isn't in the way so that you can easily periodically reward your dog for staying while doing something like cooking.
My dobe is a princess, so if we are going to ask him to be on place for a few hours we put a comfy dog bed over the raised bed and he chills there comfortably. We also have an indoor leash that if he's feeling a little extra opinionated we put on him and simply lead him back to the raised bed when ever he breaks. At this point I just have to show him the lead and he understands that there is no negotiating on being in place.
Maybe you could try some pajamas? Something like this with legs. As long as it’s not too tight so it doesn’t rub on the stitches. Or maybe a diaper?
I just adopted a two year old female Doberman. She was so well trained EXCEPT leashing. I did a lot of research and went to a pet store ( privately owned) and the owner, a long time Doberman owner sold me a Costal plastic pinch collar. It is amazing. It literally work on the first walk . Link below.Good luck.

u/Mlc707 advice is solid! I use coconut oil too! Love how it makes my pup smell like a Pina colada!
I also use these medicated wipes on his afflicted skin (acne and what ever patches crop up). It really helps with the acne. You'll see it get a little red first then it start to clear up.
Allergies (diet or environmental) can cause their immune systems to be a bit wonky and fungi and bacteria can take advantage of that and set up shop. That's why the medicated wipes and thorough cleanliness helps. Finally, try to make a mental note if you are seeing skin issues seasonally... That will help you determine if it's environmental allergies. Cleaning my dog's food and water dish in the dishwasher nightly didn't stop the acne. Wiping his face after coming in from outside seems to be helping.
Lol mine does the same. We have to buy him “sacrificial” blankets off Amazon so he won’t chew on our bedding throughout the house. We have to replace about 3 or 4 times a year!
This I one we get for Dexter:
https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Blanket-Reversible-Lightweight-Microfiber/dp/B075FGZWCB
Yup chlorhexidine wipes at night before bed clears this up nicely for our pup. I linked the ones my vet recommended, but I'm sure the other one mentioned works just the same.
I clean with water and dry then and press and hold a wipe against the affected area for 5 to 10 seconds.
Just like op we tried being absolutely fastidious about cleanliness, but the antifungal wipes were still needed. Give it a week I'm sure you'll see progress!

I’d give him a bath, and then put some of this on him. I’m a first time Doberman owner, and I do a lot of research on how to get through the ear-cropping/posting stage. I noticed sores starting to form on the back of Shadow’s ears from the tape, and scratching. This stuff works miracles, and it’s less than $10 on Amazon. I highly recommend it because I’ve used it and see the results. 🥰

Got these on Amazon, and they work great.
Trust me you can do it with other docile breeds but not with dobe, its cruel - they need company. Usually they take out their frustration on the house starting with the sofa and then everything else. I would suggest you buy a cameras for like £25 that works over the internet and watch/hear your dog during the day. Many owners find that their dog sits there howling they are so lonely.
Get something cheap on chewy. I got this in small and medium. After a couple months puppy will hit a more stable size and it will be worth investing a bit more in something that suits your dog training/walking style.
Walk-Easy made all the difference in the world for my aging pups. The joke is that they are puppy crack as mine would push each other out the way to get to them.
My current dobie got to learn how to be good pack for a year from his 13 y/o GSD brother. I thought I was going to lose the German shepherd at 10 y/o due to hips and mobility and general pain, when vet recommended Galliprant for the pain (daily pain med - like doggy Aleve) and Walk-Easy for joint mobilty. The difference in him was immediate and we got to enjoy 2+ ‘spring chicken’ years of naps and nosings and barks and cantankerousness.
These work great we have multiple of the large and small, you can load them w/ peanut butter or kibble, place them together or leave just as is. they are hard yet can be chewed like gum,
I use to buy the huggle hound toys, because they lasted and I didn’t have a destroyer.. and then I did do ended up with these.
Conversely, I got mine to sit for the leaf blower (electric) one really hot day and now he loves it. A 60 second session removes a lot of loose hair.
This Lavender & Mint conditioner as a bath final step removes a lot of loose hair at each bath time (almost stops the drain sometimes) and leaves a very soft, shiny, and good smelling coat. It works so well, I now use it on my hair and my partner laughs at me for it.

That’s the only protection we’ve used for him. Our back yard is pretty shaded for nearly the entire day and when it’s not he stays inside. If he’s going to be in the direct sun then it’s basically just to potty and come back inside.
Finding the right fit for your pup will depend on his height and length, and then it will depend on your budget. You don’t need the most expensive crate. So, if you’ve found one you prefer then I would specifically ask that manufacturer their option of what would fit best for your pup.
The verikennel was our go to kennel forever vari kennel. It is economical, offers what our pups need and usually they curl right in to the very back! I still use it for our smaller dog ( smaller size of course).

I impulse bought the coffee cup at Walgreens. So cute. It came stuffed with 3 donuts, which have all been de-squeaked and de-fluffed over a month or so. I found that I can teach Toki different play styles. Rope toys are a great for interactive fun that uses a lot of full body and chomping play. Plush toys, we never tug, but he gets affirmation for gentle play. If I introduce a plushy and the rope and alternate play styles for 10 mins or so, he learns how to treat the plushies gently. And I never leave him unattended with new toys, cause he’ll eat the fluff if he tears it apart. His favorite toys are the canvas Suspicious Chickens. They’re not the toughest, but he lubs them and they don’t get so slobbery when he chews them. https://www.chewy.com/fat-cat-floppability-barnyard-bullies/dp/111806
Poor puppy… my dobie got scratched up real bad at a dog “camp” not too long ago. He had cuts all over his body. He even had a huge cut on his balls that I thought would have to get stitched up. Stitches.. on balls… Anyways I found an antiseptic spray at Walmart for like $10 that I sprayed on all the wounds twice a day. They scabbed up pretty quick and eventually healed up. This is the spray we used.

This is a great use case for a remote training collar like this. There are 3 modes: beep, vibrate, and electric stimulation. I only use the 3rd mode for red zone behaviors (getting too aggressive at the fence with other dogs while not listening) and the vibrate annoys my boy to no end. The auditory signal works 98% of the time as a reminder that even though I’m not right next to him, he is not alpha and can do what he wants.

I bathe my boy weekly due to health complications in my household. Doc said to not have a dog, we told him to F-off. Been using Buddy Wash Lavender and Aloe for better part of a decade now. Melanism in dogs is the overabundance of the dominant/darker color. In a black & tan it would be black overlaid tan (appearing mostly/all black), red & tan - red, fawn- etc. Since his 'darker' color is the cream vs. white, the cream "masks/overlays" the white presenting as a single cream color to the naked eye. It can look similar to the albino dobes, but the eye color is visible distinction between them. Since mel blacks & reds are the most widely known, it took me a minute to wrap my head around when investigating the white colors Some melanistic examples
I wouldn’t say it’s recommended, but if you live in a place with colder weather I would recommend it! After we put his ears on, we usually put a sweater on him. My husbands let’s him run in the yard for a hour or 2 and lately it’s been in the 30s. So Ray always gets dressed before his morning routine! My roommate actually bought his ear off Amazon! Try you tube. You have to learn it takes many months. You have to change it every two to three weeks or until they come loose.
I used foam rods used for window insulation. Black athletic tape because I hated the white.
Make sure you prep the tape strips. Have them ready. Clean/ alcohol swab the ear. I even would shave any peach fuzz inside the ear.
Cut the rod to 6" so it sits inside the ear flap and sticks out above the ear. One inch from the bottom to the top. Place in ears. Backroll the tape onto the rod so sticky side out. Cut 3 strips 6 inches long by 1" per ear. Tape the tube to the ear, careful to not fold or pinch ear as you tape. Make sure you mark the tip. Trim the excess foam. 2 -15" by 1" strips of tape. Cut one tiny rod to be the spacer between the ears. Figure 8 around the ears trapping the spacer.

Amazon has some great basic hoodies for pups especially as they are still growing. I bought a nice hoodie now that he’s almost done at Sierra Trading.
I bathe weekly with conditioning shampoo - all the dirt shows on a white dobe, Pajamas at night when sleeping out, 3 air purifiers - 2 electrostatic, 1 Hepa, and a vigorous scratching/rub down 2x a week when outside does keep the “dobe glitter” to a minimum.
I don’t have a dobie but have used prong collars on both my dogs and this has never ever happened. I strongly advise you see a trainer to advise how to walk you dog and a slip lead should be used during these sessions. Aye this poor pup. Then maybe a prong collar ONLY if your dog is crazy difficult. I am not a fan of using harnesses to teach a dog to walk but this one has been a good one for our reactive dog who is a puller: 2 Hounds Design Freedom No Pull Dog Harness | Adjustable Gentle Comfortable Control for Easy Dog Walking |for Small Medium and Large Dogs | Made in USA | Leash Included https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A7EXS9Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_5H9DECPEKXTKXJMJRD19?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Again I advise you see a trainer because not only the dogs needs to be trained but you. It helped me tremendously as a first time dog owners.
Fish oils and coconut oils in the food (I like smoked sardines in olive oil and so does he), heavy conditioner when bathing (I bathe my boy every week) and a quality food that he jives with keep it way, way down. The PJ’s idea helps at night (best for a dobie I’ve found on Amazon) and I run 3 air purifiers (1 HEPA, 2 electrostatic) to keep it manageable.
these are the absolute best. Soft and warm and affordable. My buddy has a bunch of colors so we can rotate and wash when they start smelling too doggy.
this is a good sweater for Dobies! It’s hard finding stuff for their little oddball bodies but I have this now in several colors. It’s nice and soft too.
Lots of good advice here so I’ll just add that (this)[Chase 'n Chomp Durable TPR Squeaking Fetch Stick Dog Toy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I0OGY2A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NH3C4ZS4Y821M6BN4WJ0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1] is the beat toy. It’s absolutely indestructible, makes great noise, and is big enough for fetch or tug.
I accidentally threw it into the woods one day and we couldn’t find it, and my poor dog cried for 2 days. Now I keep 2 in the house at all times.
Warm up coconut oil in your hands are rub it into the coat, 2-3x a week. Our blue girl will get dandruff if I don’t moisturize her coat. Even though I feed her salmon oil & the works, she needs greased down. I also get this dog lotion from Amazon (I thought it was overkill & a little stupid when I first ordered it, but figured $12, why not try) & everyone under my roof loves it. It’s not oily & extremely moisturizing. I put two pumps on my dobies and rub it in, shiny coats & no dandruff 👌🏼

Damn cute Dobies There. My guys are still pups so they fit for now on a K&H Pet Products Original Elevated Pet Cot XL. There might be something better out there, but its just a short term solution for when I am out in the garage working.
I was scared of the same thing, but I never heard more than "awh, poor baby" as hes bouncing around gleefully (?).
And think more like 6-8 months of posting. But its really not as bad as it sounds. I didn't mind it, it just became part of our routine.
You'll definitely want to get one of these for after the crop, so she wont try to scratch. My guy loves sleeping in this thing, because he could watch us til he fell asleep without even having to lift his head lol. He's still just as lazy.
I'm not going to make it sound all fun and glam, but its not terrible either. Prima Dobermans even sells the full kit you'd need for posting the entire time, and offer their own set of directions. I just got my stuff off amazon for cheap.
I can't offer any help on solutions for the the incontinence itself, only a vet can do that, but my 13yr old Dobie/lab mix experienced the same issues the last few months of her life from old age.
I found washable incontinence pads that I put on her bed or wherever she wanted to lay down which helped tremendously with cleanup and preventing the ruining of beds and furniture. Our washer has a sanitize function so I'd just toss the soiled pads in and that was that. Held up great with daily washing. I donated mine to my vet after she passed.
Just thought I'd offer a temporary solution until the issue gets resolved. Disposable pads are expensive and noisy. My girl refused to lay on them but these are cotton so it was like laying on a blanket to her. Or I'd sneak them under a blanket.
Finally did some searching in my purchase history. The harness is actually about 3 years old now. My 2.5 year old Dobie gets similar spots. The vet said he would have to do a biopsy to figure out the exact cause, but didn’t seem worried unless it started getting worse. I started using a medicated shampoo I found on Amazon and it does really seem to help. The hair did mostly grow back as well. It also seems to happen worse in the summer for her.

I got my dobie a 50' cotton lead when he was three months old so we could do long leash work in a big field, but I didn't have to stress about him running off if something caught his eye.
It's lightweight, so it's not a burden for a smaller puppy to haul around as he chases a frisbee.

This is the one I have been using:

I also have used the eCollar with another dog and it worked really good if you need one that has more range (I think it's over a mile range or something crazy). It's just WAY expensive. Too expensive IMO.

I like the Kirkland bed we got from Costco - if smelt bad for a few days so we left it outside to air out but it had held up decently - I know a lot of Doberman owners who prefer the elevated beds like this: https://www.amazon.com/Original-Elevated-Pet-Bed-Coolaroo/dp/B001HX4280/ref=sr_1_11?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1486058987&sr=1-11&keywords=Dog+bed
Memory foam also tends to keep its shape a bit better than regular stuffed beds

Using this one. Lined with felt so it doesn't run her fur or skin. Very comfy. Can't escape even if she tried.
