Don't forget about Kotaku, paragon of journalistic integrity:
Blizzard has to be involved somehow in this. None of these articles even allude to the fact Elysium still exists.
Oh yeah, definitely.
Here's a screenshot of htop running on Elysium.
This is with around 7000 players online
We are also in the process of completely re-writing the entire threading system which will make this even better.
Try Downloading Windowed Borderless
Extract it anywhere and run the program.
Right click on the "Windowed Borderless" tray icon on your taskbar and navigate to "Settings>Global Settings"
Tick the checkbox "Automatically set resolution in the game's settings" and enter a lower acceptable resolution e.g "1024x768/800x600/640x480" click Save and Close when done.
Now run the game and login to a character, after game is running Alt+tab to desktop right click in the "Windowed Borderless" tray icon again only this time click "Add Window (F3)"
Alt+tab back to WoW and press F3 on your keyboard then wait a 5-10 seconds, it should change your game resolution to what you entered above plus set it to Windowed Borderless mode.
If it works, you may now exit "Windowed Borderless" program and then set your recommended game resolution from the in game settings.
Having to verify frequently isn't a big hassle. Relying on a single piece of hardware that might fail at any moment? Been there, done that, didn't like the position it put me in when the failure occurred.
I'd rather rely on my own ability to keep my system secure. I've only ever lost one account ever in my life and that was because I forgot the password and Microsoft's customer support is awful.
I practice solid security, and so far it has been enough for me.
I use a unix based operating system that doesn't automatically mount portable storage devices, unlike Windows. I only frequent safe websites, disallow javascript, ran flash blockers for years. I use a pi-hole, a secure browser that doesn't leak information, an adblocker, noscript, and I VPN my Skype. I encrypt my storage devices.
So if I lose my account it's because someone had physical access to my hardware and most importantly access to my password. Or much more likely, something went wrong somewhere down the pipeline between the outlet to my house and the server.
So I'd rather not rely on my shitty phone that's pre-planned for obsolesence 2 years after it hits the market. I'd rather not pray that my SSD doesn't fail at an inopportune time.
I've taken the necessary precautions already. 2FA means adding a potential point of failure that cannot easily be rectified if my hardware fails. And hardware is far removed from being failsafe.
A european VPN wouldn't necessarily be better for you, sure your ping displayed would be better, but your actual ping may be worse (it doesn't calculate your ping to your VPN connection + VPN to host). I live in NA and I use Private Internet Access, I mainly got it because when I played on Feenix, it was unplayable without it.
If you want to see where things are getting lost, you can use a tracert to the server IP. I don't think it is the same as the realmlist connection, but someone will have it. See where your packets are getting lost and see if you can bypass the point where they are being lost with the VPN.
I tried deleting wdb folder- disconnected immediately.
Tried changing realm list to the numeric IP address- disconnected immediately.
Deleted WTF + both above, then used VPN to connect thru France- success.
Disconnected VPN and restored WTF from recycle bin- still success.
It seems like you get stuck in a cycle of disconnecting before actually trying to connect, and the cycle must be broken. I am unsure which step above contributed to my success.
Currently 6873 in queue. Best of luck.
FYI- The VPN service I used is Private Internet Access.
This is like a weird, reversed Deponia plot. My entire name does not work anymore. I wonder if Shenna is as hot as Goal, though.
she now make post in russian community group in vk, trying to keep them on elysium.
if anyone want, you can ctrl-c ctrl-v her post https://vk.com/elysiumwow?w=wall-58312512_115814 in google translate.
Use a unique username and password and you really will not get hacked, but get 2FA anyway for peace of mind. Run your regularly used usernames/emails etc through this site to see what might be compromised: https://haveibeenpwned.com/
Oh, people at Cloudflare might disagree.
"Our enterprise-class DDoS protection network has 20 times more capacity than the largest DDoS attack ever recorded. Operating at the network edge, it protects against all forms of DDoS attacks."
Check https://haveibeenpwned.com/.
I found that a (different) email address I used on a different mmo (retail not private) had been leaked along with 800,000+ others.
It's not just private servers that are leaky.
No, I have never been compromised. https://haveibeenpwned.com/
That is a pretty bad attitude to have in my opinion, which I thanfully don't share.
I'll still try to get my info deleted, even if it's a matter of principle, not that you'd understand.
EDIT: Althought you said it just as an example, I didn't download any client, I have the original game.
I've lived in China for three years and cracking down on VPNs is a yearly event. Like some people have been saying, most people use windows here and if a Vpn service goes down a new one crops up on its place.
I think it's important to remember that these crack downs are on China based VPNs, so ExpressVPN, vypervpn and Astrill still work fine. Sometimes these VPNs will be down for a day or two ,if even that, to come up with a work around for the new polices.
But I don't think it will change the population. Most of the dudes that play this game in China are pretty knowledgable about playing games that aren't based here so don't rely on Chinese VPNs to access them. Plus Elysium is playable without a VPN, just bumps your latency up to about 400ms.
As far as the government making this game illegal for people to play on, that's not really an issue because Elysium, or private servers, in general isn't what they are cracking down on. They are more focussed on limiting the access of information that discredits the communist party instead of limiting phat loots and BWL raids
/thread^^ But it really depends on how you value your time and what you chose your higher values to be. If you look at it in a non-anthroprocentric way everything is really pointless/absurd.
Have you already bought? I would not recommend that cheaper Acer version, due to low 1366x768 resolution which won't let you fit much onscreen.
This one has 1920x1080 for about the same price: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-Generation/dp/B01K1IO3QW/
Only i3, but the Intel HD 620 will be the bottleneck for games, and you'll notice the resolution difference before the CPU difference, since the i3 is already pretty good whereas 1366x768 really isn't.
