The Last Stand campaign, or more correctly the Last Stand Campaign Pack, is the first campaign that you can buy with Platinum, the other two are free from the start. According to ECG's "numbers guy" (in-house statistician) LeFronge the LSCP has a combined worth of ~9000 Platinum, so 2000 is a pretty sweet deal.
Aside from the LSCP the obvious answer to what to spend your Platinum on is ship skins, especially Ultimate skins, since ship skins can not be bought with credits.
If you are not a veteran player having tens of millions of credits lying around, you might also consider using Platinum to unlock ships of the high price tiers:
Ships of the "Prototype" tier (the latest additions to the game) cost 1,720,000 credits, those in the "Production" tier (former Prototype tier ships that have been bumped down as new ships have been released) sit at 960,000 credits - It is important that the credit price of ships only reflects how "new" a ship is; we don't have those stupid "power tiers" where more expensive ships are more powerful. Because all ships are balanced around each other their Platinum price is also the same for all ships: 990 Platinum.
Fractured Space has a pretty soft/tolerable "grind" if you factor in all the extra credits, boosters, medal rewards, etc. you get, so even those Prototype tier ships are well within moderate reach for casual players if they put some time in, but if you really want one of those shiny new toys now, dropping 990 Platinum can be money well spent.
(As always when discussing ship prices, the obligatory mention that the Fleet Pack DLC) which unlocks all current and all future ships is really good value for it's price, especially when it's on sale).
I can highly recommend flux if your eyes get tired at night quick. I use it everyday, pretty much regardless of what I'm playing or doing at my pc. The description from their website:
> During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun. [...] f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights [i.e. warm]. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.
So at night your pc screen has a sort of yellowish tone, at day it looks just like it always does. What is also very useful is that you can dim the screens by pressing Alt+Page up and Alt+Page down respectively. I usually do this when I wake up early in the morning and don't want my pc screens blaring at me like car high beams :)
> Thanks. Are those the 4 USR ships that come in the beginner pack? Til level 10 or something?
If you're talking about this then no. I don't really know what the new player sets are either, but if you get like an Overseer or Paragon, you're way past that point lol.
> How long does the game consider you a beginner?
Dated post, but still might help.
> So the rotation is really just to expose people to new ships that they may not have purchased yet?
I believe so.
^^Edit: ^^A ^^lot ^^of ^^edits ^^because ^^I ^^suck ^^at ^^formatting
Yeah, I read their Trello board
I know this probably isn't read yet but creating and supporting content here is how we grow this portion of the community.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I usually only win out in situations where the enemy is engaged with other ships on my team, allowing me to pound them at max range, or if they are a Flagship.
edit: Looking at the Trello board, it look like they're adding more capital ships in April (Zarek Carrier) and May (TDS Flagship). They are also going to add ramming as a feature, so maybe those damn Brawlers and Hunters will be less inclined to hug my Destroyer!
