i'm keeping my mic at 50% otherwise my audio would end like yours (i imagine).-
So it's happening randomly or if you play a game (i know it's hard to see without monitoring your own voice).
Keeping the windows recording / audio properties open you should see the volume slider slowly moving to 100% if it's caused by something like teamviewer trying to level your mic. The level shoots to 100% instantly. Pretty sure it's not a VOIP program (or a very strange one).
Maybe a very small OBS recording in the background, recording that slider window, maybe your monitor at a very low resolution ( you don't want to film a lets play, just a video evidence of when it's happening in the background ).
.
edit: another shot in the dark... I once used a Spotify-to-MP3 recording tool, that messed with the recording levels too.
There are (paid ...) tools to keep your levels at a volume of x% at any time but i refuse to pay for something that stupid and simple :/
You could also try to disable the checkmark (allow applications to control this device exclusively) in the audio properties. Could fix the problem, not sure about it really working with every kind of mic-auto-adjusting
.
edit2: There are opensource tools to keep the level at a specific level and some use it to set the level after a boot/login via autostart.
Ever heard of AutoHotkey? A simple-ish programming tool to create your own little scripts or tools.
Like transmitting a butting press to a specific program in the background, auto click elements or popups/error messages.
Or this time: The SoundSet command/API

Instead of waiting for Nvidia to fix these issues I just uninstalled geforce experience and installed the previous version (Feb 16, 2021).
***Warning, doing this might remove any custom settings you have for geforce experience. i.e. instant replay, hud locations, and keyboard shortcuts.***
But back to normal for me now and I'm happy.
Here's the link
Handbrake is an open source (free) application that can take practically any video format and transcode it to any other codec / resolution / level of compression. I use handbrake for professional animation and video conversion. you can find it here: https://handbrake.fr/
3.22 is a broken update. There's a release window for a fix, which is sometime in June, but for now just downgrade to a previous version.
Uninstall the GeForce Experience launcher, then go here and download 3.21.
http://www.filepuma.com/download/nvidia_geforce_experience_3.9.0.61-16345/
However, it's annoying to prevent auto-updating from happening. There are scripts you can run at startup or modify permissions for the folder used.
Uninstall GeForce Experience from the Windows Programs and Features -> download the latest version from: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/
Once downloaded, right-click over the installer and select Run as administrator.
If you were running an older version of GeForce Experience, it will give you an error when you try to install driver 471.41 or later drivers. Please update to GeForce Experience 3.23.0.74.
Using the web page Redeem menu again.
This time getting the message:
"Please use GeForce Experience 3.18 or higher to redeem this promo code. You can download it at: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/ ."
I've updated up to 3.20 and still no success.
Pretty sure this calls for action to fraud department for investigation.
DDU Uninstaller.
Then, since Nvidia can't make up their mind about how to create drivers (looking at you 'normal' vs DCH drivers) use the Standalone GFE install. It will then install the correct drivers for your system.
I can't use the standard drivers on my system, and the DCH drivers do NOT come with Nvidia control panel - it needs to be downloaded separately through the F*cking Microsoft Store! So to try eliminating any hiccups, anymore I say just get it through GFE. But use DDU uninstall to clean your system of any previous version so there's no conflicting files.
It's because you ran some windows 10 "prIVaCy tOOl".

You need to reinstall gf experience.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/games/
On the supported games list HL2, both episodes and "Tomb Raider (2013)" is listed as compatible. It might have been patched and the GFE team didn't fix / modify the game.
Or they changed the patch to the configuration file:
> GEFORCE EXPERIENCE CAN’T OPTIMIZE SOME OF MY GAMES. WHY?
> Some games install the configuration file along with the game under Program Files. These files cannot be modified by external programs like GeForce Experience.
I'm not aware of a way to directly send the developers a bug report to a specific game.
You can always use the feedback options in GFE itself and https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/110/geforce-experience/ post on the official forum.
