I think in the US they’re commonly considered different cookies. There are several articles explaining the “difference” but I think that’s because we lack the European context and we really just have the shredded coconut cookie and the French almond cookie (much more recently). I think technically the two words are the same, but the English and French versions of the word have become used for different cookies in the US context, whereas in the UK the usage is more fluid.
Thanks for your reply! That’s super helpful. The book sounds perfect! Definitely hope I can find a copy soon.
Also, in case you’re looking for a kitchen scale - I’d definitely recommend the Escali Primo. After a lot of research, I finally bought one last summer and it has been life-changing! Cleanup is so much easier without the hassle of multiple measuring cups, and everything is much more precise!
I'm pretty obsessed with these baking books:
Bake from Scratch: Artisan Recipes for the Home Baker https://www.amazon.com/dp/1940772362/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_mm6MDbE0P3WBD
Amazon has all of them but I bought mine for a better price at Costco.
It was! It was hard though because of the quarantine. We made tiramisu one week and I had a whole tray to myself to eat for like a week and a half! :)
I purchased this one The Great British Bake Off Big Book of Baking https://www.amazon.com/dp/1849904839/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zPzoFb479NAK6
If you search “Great British Baking Show cookbooks” on Amazon there’s a ton that show up. I think there’s two or three directly related to the show but Paul and Mary Berry have some also
I have seen these on Amazon but I don't have them, so I don't know if they are any good. There also appears to be a few other books in the series, so there might be a few options for you.
The Great British Baking Show: Love to Bake
The Great British Baking Show: The Big Book of Amazing Cakes
This. Weighs ingredients up to 5 lbs. I have the 11 lb. Model. OXO scale
If you love Mary Berry (and I do) you must watch
Mary Berry's Country House Secrets on Amazon Prime (you will need a Britbox subscription)
She visits and tours famous British estates, meets the current owners, cooks some things. I've watched the whole series at least three times. She is such a loving, gracious person.
That looks fabulous! I hope it tasted as good as it looks!
But, damn! That cookbook isn't available in the US until December. :(
I just bought Baking With Mary Berry as it gives a good sampling of lots of different ones since I'm just starting out on baking.
