I went prebuilt. Bought an Acer Predator g6 off Amazon, super happy with it. I was just like you, intimidated at the idea of making my own. But I bought this in 2015, I just recently upgraded the gpu from a GTX 970 to a 1070, and that process alone I learned quite a bit.... so what I'm saying is basically, theres no shame in going this route, get it and then start thinking down the line when you'd want to put more ram or GPU in.

Acer is the brand I'd recommend... Quick amazon search I see this:

Thats about what I spent for mine. I was able to do VR with a GTX 970, so a 1060 should be adequate enough.
Three things to try in order that will fix it. First; Unplug all USB devices running into USB 3.0 as lightning drivers can royally destroy your gaming experience I have no idea why, also follow up by making sure you ctrl+alt+del and end those tasks.
Second; Get a sync cable, I bought this one as it's cheaper than the official one but better range : deleyCON 20m (65.62 ft.) Jack... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IAPTU26?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share The shape of the heads are quite particular so if you find an alternative make sure the heads are the same, this will usually ensure your towers are irrefutably synced up just make sure you do it before powering them up and make sure you power them up before you power up your Vive.
Thirdly; BUY SOME SEA SICKNESS TABLETS!!! lol Seriously, there's no reason to suffer with motion sickness, just go to the pharmacy, and buy some, they're cheap and take them 30 mins before and you can play ANYTHING, no matter how intense for HOURS.
Amazon has some.
Afaik, the threading on the lighthouses is 1/4-20, so any camera equipment for that should work. Something like this.
Ah, yeah, found something. Is the cable this one ?
If yes, then it's definetly not the the official cable, and it would explain the E: drive that shows up and the driver issue.
>"Auto run software Launches directly from the cable without additional software to install. "
these are meant for wifi antenna but maby they will work on the vive antenna. I dont own one so i can't test it
I tried many different cables and found only one 1m cable to be working. :(
I might be wrong I think it was this cable:
Wentronic WLAN Antennenverlängerungs Kabel (RP-SMA Stecker auf RP-SMA Buchse) 1m https://www.amazon.de/dp/B001C6NW9W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_AH95DbFWA8YFR
If its only one blinking green light means you are out of juice and need to charge the battery. If you need a new battery, this one works: https://smile.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-10000mAh-Qualcomm-Compatible/dp/B01JIYWUBA/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=anker+qc+3.0+power+bank&qid=1572979464&sr=8-3
I've used this one on my Vive Pro since the wireless option came out. Zero problems and long play time. Slow recharge without a quickcharger tho

I’m so confused by this thread, why the Oculus link?
Here is Vive on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VF5NT4I/
Edit: I see, not on Canadian amazon... hmm Still let’s you do it just with $106 in “fees”
I can confirm, mine when bad after a couple weeks. 2-pack at amazon for 7 bucks https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KRO8D20/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You'll probably hit your controllers on stuff at some point so you may want some controller protection. Even these at $17 a pair add a non-invasive layer of silicon to give a little more protection to the controllers. Replacement Vive controllers cost $129 each so I see the covers as cheap insurance. Also important is that the controller covers prevent the controllers from scuffing your ceilings and walls when they get hit. Source: personal experience.
I'm sure there are several laptops with the power and ports needed, but they won't be small or light (not yet). But if you want something you can carry in a backpack all day and then hook up at home for some VR, they exist, just not without dropping some major cash. Here's a good one that should be able to run a Vive headset pretty well.
