Exercise will help you a little, but diet is what's going to shed the weight. Get on MyFitnessPal and plug in your metrics and start counting your calories ASAP. I don't know what your start weight is, so I can't tell you what's realistically attainable in 10 months, but you should be able to drop an average of 1lb a week by just controlling your calorie intake. I say "just", but really it's a lot harder than sticking to an exercise routine, IMHO. Good luck! Feel free to PM if you need additional advice :)

If you have Amazon, there are a couple books that you can read with a kindle app (both low cost - free w/ Kindle unlimited - the Mediterranean Diet cookbook, and one for beginners) that are pretty good - both have details to read about, recipes, and sub options for budget shopping.
If you are also learning how to cook, I recommend Alton Brown's Good Eats - he explains the science behind why you should cook the way you do, and it's also entertaining.
