Step 1 have a reddit account. Step 2 have a smart phone with the app IFTTT If this then that. (It can be downloaded from your app store via google play or apple store) Step 3 use this recipe and apply it to IFTTT https://ifttt.com/recipes/268533?z=5529459 Step 4 Deliver libertea to alien scumbags!
It's called Special Ops Mission. One of the best shows I've ever seen. I think it only ran for six episodes.
It used to be on Netflix, but I can't find it there anymore.
There is this playlist, but looks like a lot of the videos were deleted, and some of the videos aren't from the show :( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL31289BC33B50D4F0
Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Operation-Frozen-Thunder/dp/B002LMGOIW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1458158065&sr=8-2&keywords=special+ops+mission
As others have probably mentioned, use the IFTTT app for your smart phone. If you look through the threads for it, the guy has an alert message set up for the app to notify you when there's an event (or rather when someone makes a thread with "event" in it).
Edit: here's the event for the app - https://ifttt.com/recipes/268533-helldivers-event-notification-through-reddit?z=5526815
Here you go man:

I havent tested it yet but I followed what it says above. Also, I saw a few similar recipes and they seem to follow the same format.
Might have an issue due to css, so you can give it a go for yourself!
link to the helldivers IFTTT recipe
note it uses the IFTTT app to alert you, but it's trivial to make your own to send an email. Just use the reddit IF with this search term: title:'event' subreddit:helldivers
Sure thing. It's called IFTTT (if this then that).
Here's a link to the recipe (is what it calls the notification)
This recipe looks for posts with "event" or "alert" in the title and sends a notification for Android
My only experience is with the DS4, so I'll be speaking from that only. If your controller is different from a DS4 in any way, I wouldn't know.
That said, yes, you can get PS button prompts. Simply plug in your DS4 into the computer and make sure nothing else is standing between the controller in the game. That is to say, do not use any program that "translates" button inputs, like Steam's Big Picture mode or DS4Windows (though, just saying, this is still a great program to get a DS4 working in games that do not support it natively).
...Assuming you're on Steam and not PS4?
Pretty much what cusman said. In my experience, getting my computer (Windows 10, not the game) to recognize the controller via Bluetooth was the challenging part for me. I remember I eventually got it to work wirelessly (it might've been with the help of DS4Windows, I don't remember), but if your situation is like how mine was, I'd just recommend using it wired if you can.
Also, Big Picture mode can be the devil sometimes when it comes to getting controllers (especially DS4) to work the way to want them to. Based on what you said, I don't think you're using that, but I'm just throwing that out there.
A smart phone app. Check out the google play store or iphone app store. Basically you create instances of "if this happens, then do that". If this case, the link I gave makes it so when a thread on this forum has "event" in the title, it gives your phone a notification.
You can do other things like, if you take a photo, post it to facebook/instagram/upload to dropbox. You can also set it up for other things besides phones like "Notes: Turn off your lights with the push of a button". It's an interesting app.
They have a bunch of recipe ideas on the main site: https://ifttt.com/recipes/collections/41-recipes-for-android
I haven't yet played any game supporting the DS4 natively as Plug & Play, but if that exists, its kind of disappointing that the Sony published Helldivers game on Steam doesn't support the DS4 as Plug & Play.
What I know is that you need to run the program called DS4Windows ( http://ds4windows.com/ ) along side the game for the DS4 to work.
It is kind of like needing to use program like xpadder for Xbox 360 controller to work on PC some years before the developers started supporting it natively as Plug & Play. For older games you still have to use something like xpadder.
Restoring someone else's backup files might work too. Maybe your friend can create a backup and send them to you over the net or on a flash drive (if your connection speeds are slow or you have bandwidth limits).
Edit:
If both of your net speeds are fast enough (your friend's max upload speed is more likely to be the limiting factor) and want to try a remote transfer, you can do it with a peer-to-peer transfer using something like Reslio (free version) or Syncthing. Your friend could also share it via cloud storage but he/she would need enough space in the cloud (guessing about 7 GB) and you'd have to wait for the upload to complete on your friend's end before starting the download.
Okay, little update here: a cool fellow named evilC is working on writing software called Universal Controller Remapper that will do exactly what I want! https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10830
This is the one I got, but it’s unavailable now:
LIBER-TEA! 11 Oz White Ceramic.11 Oz Fine Ceramic Mug With Flawless Glaze Finish. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PLSCBWZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RS8CFARZRJM8PCPGA3K9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The other link shares looks similar and shows available.
I personally love the DualShock 4 controller if you get the wireless adapter made by sony It will show all the normal PS4 button prompts as well.

Hello Friend. I too just got into the game a few months ago. Had purchased the, 'HELLDIVERS - Super Earth, Ultimate Edition' (physical copy) for the PS4, on Amazon, (I'll put link at end of this...)
Anyway, has been VERY good to me - and my brother - thus far; as includes redeemable download code for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.
It took awhile to figure out the formalities but, we managed to download it to his PS3 and to my PS4, and so far, seems to have everything you could want for this great game.
Cheers!

I know this is a couple days late, but as a long-time PC gamer and FPS enthusiast, i'd love to encourage you to expand your comfort zones. Using a controller for a PC First Person Shooter (eg. Counter-Strike, Battlefield, PUBG, etc) is like driving with one eye closed, you'll get a lot of the basic essentials down but you're unnecessarily making things way more difficult for yourself than you need to. To be frank-- you're going to get absolutely demolished by anyone with a mouse if you can't get away with enabling Aim Assist as a handicap (this option's disabled in most Multiplayer games). A reliable mouse is the undisputed king of First Person Shooters by a landslide.
The mouse i'd love to recommend to you is discontinued (Corsair M95), however Corsair has a same-generation model that's just as good for only $45USD (on sale at the moment), it's a Corsair M65: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-M65-Pro-RGB-Adjustable/dp/B01D63UU52/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1512602280&sr=8-1&keywords=Corsair+M65
If you feel you're not good at shooting with the mouse, consider adjusting your mouse sensitivity (DPI) lower - a common default a lot of people use is 400 DPI to approximately 800 DPI. It may feel very slow at first, but practice makes perfect and you'll be doing things you didn't know you were capable of in no time.
Back to the topic at hand however, Helldivers is a wonderful controller game. I own an Xbox One Controller but always find myself going back to my beloved Playstation DS4s. I never liked the feeling of the Steam controller myself but that's largely preference based (I'm not a fan of the touch panels at all). Throwing another vote in the hat for the DS4.
You can use the standard DS4 you got for your PS4 for your Steam gaming by attaching it via a USB cable.
To make the DS4 work wireless on the PC or Mac for something like Steam or Remote Play, you can get something like the Sony Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller Starter Kit which includes a DS4 and the USB Wireless BlueTooth transmitter or you can get just the Sony Dualshock 4 USB Wireless Adapter sold separately.
Note: I have also come across references of making generic USB BlueTooth Adapters work, but it is more complicated to get them synced with your DS4 and get them working. Those solutions also tend to require some 3rd party software which basically detect your DS4 like an Xbox 360 controller so the game shows Xbox button prompts instead of DS4 button prompts.
yeah i thought you must have big fingers. but then my suggestion instead would be to get a controller that suits your needs better. after all PC gaming can have many peripherals.
how about this? http://techreport.com/news/28489/steelseries-stratus-xl-wireless-controller-is-one-snazzy-gamepad
or the Xbox elite controller. you just gotta find the right option http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Dual-Vibration-Gaming-Controller/dp/B0036WTVNG
Use RIF, which is imo the best way to browse reddit on your phone. Replies and stuff will come up as normal phone notifications.
